The Role of Women in Work and Society

French historians are concerned by women’s history since thirty years, but studies are manly dealing with the Occident. For the ancient Near East, there is now a great deal of limited studies on women and gender history, but few syntheses. Furthermore, economic history is well represented in Assyriology, thanks to the good preservation of dozen of thousands of clay tablets recording administrative operations, contracts and acts dealing with family law. Despite these voluminous sources, the topic of work has not been much addressed. The thirty participants of this conference will examine the various economic occupations involving women, in a gender perspective, over the three millennia of Near Eastern history.

The contribution of funerary paleo-anthropology in the historic sciences

L’archéologie funéraire fournit des données trop souvent insatisfaisantes sur l’identité des défunts. Si certaines sépultures, en particulier celles des élites, apportent des renseignements relativement précis, les sépultures des individus de rang plus modeste voire pauvre sont généralement moins lisibles. Parmi ceux-ci, les artisans sont particulièrement difficiles à identifier en raison de l’absence de données matérielles explicites, mettant ainsi en évidence les limites de l’archéologie.

Medicine and practices

Journée d’études de la Société suisse d’histoire de la médecine et des sciences naturelles –Schweizerische Gesellschaft für Geschichte der Medizin und der Natruwissenschaften (SSHMSN-SGGMNW). La journée du 10 septembre 2010 a pour objectif de réunir des historiens-nnes spécialisés dans des périodes allant de l'antiquité à l'époque contemporaine, et plus particulièrement des jeunes chercheurs susceptibles de proposer une contribution dans ce cadre. Des recherches menées actuellement sur ces lignes dans plusieurs instituts d’histoire de la médecine et des sciences de Suisse seront également présentées.
