Residential school trips in France and internationally: current research
Revue « Les Sciences de l'éducation - Pour l'ère nouvelle »
The aim of this special issue is to bring together research on the different types of residential school trips on offer in French or international school systems, such as seaside activities, winter sports, environmental activities, and so on. Researchers are invited to submit articles covering the themes of residential school trips and the educational use of travel, change of scenery or tourism.

Garden cities for the 21st century
Valorization, preservation and challenges in France, Europe and the world
The aim of this symposium is to put into perspective the different dimensions of a common heritage stemming from the garden city concept developed by Ebenezer Howard in 1898. An overview of the situation, a comparative approach and postulations on possible futures are expected. Four lines of thought and questioning are envisaged. The themes will transversally address the dimension of the built environment and the outdoor space, at different scales encompassing collective spaces of sociability, materiality of places, representations, practices, and so forth.

The changing figures of nature protection (19th-21st century)
L’objectif central du colloque sera de caractériser les différentes conceptions et manifestations des rapports entre les sociétés humaines et leurs environnements, telles qu’elles se manifestent et se révèlent dans la protection de la nature. Il s’agira d’en retracer les origines et les fondements, leur influence sur le gouvernement des choses, leur portée sociétale, leurs effets espérés et inattendus et leurs remaniements du XIXe siècle à nos jours. Le second objectif du colloque consiste à proposer aux acteurs du temps présent une mise en perspective historicisée, comparée et contextualisée pour interroger les successions supposées de paradigmes de protection de la nature; éclairer les évolutions en cours, et mieux comprendre les tensions sociétales induites par les politiques de protection ainsi que la diversité des situations locales ou nationales.

Planetary ethics and aesthetics, interspecies communities, post-gender and anarchist societies, indigenous knowledge, vegetal sentience... The paths Ursula K. Le Guin has opened for our imagination to travel are numerous, subtle itineraries through which we might find ways to better inhabit the XXIst century. The international bilingual conference "Le Guin's Legacies" will engage with her work from a multiplicity of perspectives, tracing its literary, ecological, philosophical, socio-economical and anthropological ramifications: its potential for re-engineering the world we live in.

The circulation and renewal of knowledge about nature and the environment in France and Germany
Ce colloque propose une réflexion comparée sur la construction et la diffusion des savoirs sur la nature et l’environnement, en France et en Allemagne, afin d’interroger l’émergence et le succès du champ d’études des humanités environnementales. À travers une mise en regard épistémologique et pluridisciplinaire – associant les lettres et les sciences sociales –, il s’agit de se demander pourquoi l’on vient à parler d’humanités environnementales, dans quels contextes, à propos de quels objets et quels modes d’analyse, et ce alors même que l’énoncé n’est pas complètement stabilisé. Questionner la construction de ce champ dans les contextes nationaux français et allemand est riche de sens, d’autant que l’on sait les deux « traditions nationales » des rapports à la nature souvent présentées comme clivées (schématiquement, la filiation des Lumières en France, celle du romantisme en Allemagne), alors que les processus historiques ont été plus complexes.

An Environmental History of the Great War
We intend to bring together an international group of 20 to 30 graduate students working on military, cultural, social, and environmental history of the First World War from 2nd to 7th July 2018. Over the course of the week, they will have opportunity to get to know each other, but also a wide range of internationally recognized academic experts. Guided tours on excursions to French and Belgian sites are an integral part of the program and will enrich the participants' experience.

Si la guerre tue, la photographie, elle, est douée d’une capacité de sidération. Dans cette mesure, l’une et l’autre suspendent, figent l’instant. Dans leurs procédures, elles s’appliquent à maîtriser, à conquérir, à capturer et entretiennent un lien fondamental avec la mort. Cette journée veillera donc à aborder un large spectre de représentations des territoires confrontés aux guerres passées et actuelles qui s’offrent comme de multiples terrains d’études, qu’investissent très largement les artistes.

Art and research relating to the visible and invisible traces of conflicts - interdisciplinary and inter-artistic approaches to war heritag
This symposium is part of the research project “landscape(s) of the strange. On visible and invisible traces of a regional heritage in transformation. Artistic and theoretical (re)-constructions of a cross-border history marked by major conflicts” started in 2016. To begin with, the project approached the notion of “trace” or “mark” in its material (heritage, architecture, vegetation) and immaterial (memory, culture) dimensions, especially those related to the concrete landscape of Lorraine which bears the mark of a conflictual history opposing Frenchmen and Germans, especially during the two World Wars.

Ce colloque permettra d’examiner les modalités selon lesquelles le livre — qui inclut des mots et des images (gravures ou photographies) en un univers clos — s’offre, du XIXe siècle jusqu’à nos jours, comme le réceptacle privilégié d’un archivage du patrimoine architectural ou paysager. La somme des différentes facettes d’un site — telle qu’elle est proposée au sein du livre — travaille à la construction d’une identité territoriale qui reflète mais aussi infléchit l’évolution des pratiques humaines de l’espace.

The "Face" of First World War Battlefields and Battles
The centenary in 2016 of the two iconic battles of the First World War – Verdun and the Somme – leads us to reconsider battles and battlefields in the historiography of the First World War. Since John Keegan’s pioneering Face of Battle (1976), generations of historians have expanded our understanding of the experience of combat, as well as our knowledge of the literary and artistic representations of the battlefield. The way we think about the legacy of battles in the memory of the First World War around the world, too, has changed. Our week in Verdun and Péronne will not only give us time to reflect on the current state of research on the battles of the First World War and discover the most recent advancements in battlefield archeology and environmental history of warfare, but also confront these readings with on-the-ground visits to the sites studied.

Labels in the field of cultural and natural heritage
Created in the 60s, the label's use for cultural and natural heritage has increased dramatically for several years, specially in France. Inherited from the marketing and trade world, the use of labels for cultural and natural heritage illustrates the expansion of heritage's conception to new artefacts and new cultural properties, in an anthropological meaning. Some recent studies on the cultural and natural heritage labels insist on the economic benefits for development of territories. But the legal and institutional dimensions of labels in heritage have been ignored. The goal of the symposium is to define and precise the purposes and the caracteristics of labels in the field of heritage.

Defining European Eco-criticism
The aim of this international conference is to make visible the variegated sprouting of European Eco-criticism —a name that is given as a working hypothesis for the time being. American-born Eco-criticism seems to be gradually filtering into Old World languages and cultural contexts ; but it has different meanings in different places. Hence, an assessment of this major theoretical transduction appears to be highly opportune. The goal is to give a geographical dimension to this framework, and contributors are invited to investigate national, regional, and local particularities of eco-literature, be it in the guise of fiction, non-fiction, or criticism, bearing in mind that literatures outside the English-speaking world will be given priority.

Si la nature et les éléments naturels dans l’œuvre de J.-M. G. Le Clézio ont déjà fait l’objet de nombreuses études, justifiées par la richesse de ces thématiques dans l’œuvre de l’auteur, en revanche celle de l’environnement, et des responsabilités de l’homme vis-à-vis de lui, a fait pour l’heure l’objet de moins d’attention. Pourtant, J.-M. G. Le Clézio a éprouvé très tôt l’importance d’une conscience environnementale et a laissé entendre dans ses livres l’écho de questionnements liés à cet intérêt, faisant de lui dans la littérature française du XXe siècle l’un des premiers auteurs particulièrement concernés par la réflexion écologique. Ce numéro 10 de Les Cahiers J.-M. G. Le Clézio vise à susciter différentes réflexions sur la manière d'habiter la Terre en fonction de trois axes principaux.

Chaque mois, le jeudi matin de la première semaine, Images Re-vues, revue en ligne d'histoire, anthropologie et théorie de l'art, organise à l'INHA (Paris) un séminaire avec des membres du comité de rédaction et des invités autour de l'actualité de la revue ou de la recherche. Cette année, le séminaire, coordonné par Thomas Golsenne et Chloé Maillet, examine les configurations contemporaines des rapports entre les images, l'art et la politique, à travers l'examen de livres récemment parus, d'expositions en cours ou de recherches récentes.

Les archives « phares » : de la collecte à la valorisation
Les Archives nationales organisent en partenariat avec le ministère de l’Écologie, du développement durable et de l’énergie et en collaboration avec l’École des ponts ParisTech deux journées d’étude consacrées aux phares. S’adressant à un large public – chercheurs, archivistes, professionnels des phares et balises, acteurs du patrimoine des phares – ces journées d’étude présenteront des initiatives abouties ou en cours de développement dont l’objectif commun est de transmettre l’histoire et la mémoire des phares, en mobilisant les ressources des technologies de l’information et de la communication.

Following the study days dedicated to “architectural and town planning professions faced with the involvement of residents and users” in 2012 and “sustainable town planning and architecture know-how and models” in 2013, the aim of the Ramau 2014 conferences is to concentrate on the relations between sustainability and “management” in the field of urban development and architecture. The incorporation of sustainable development in architectural, urban and landscaping operations seems to have the effect of increasing the concern for management logic in the project process.

Contemporary art and geographical practices: territories in representation
Workshop 1. Shift / confront the gaze
Cet atelier de recherche est organisé dans le cadre du Musée éclaté de la presqu’île de Caen (Mépic) en collaboration avec l’UFR de géographie de l’Université de Caen Basse-Normandie. Il est structuré en trois séances de travail organisées en juin, septembre et octobre 2013.
L’une des particularités du MéPIC est de faire dialoguer, au sein d’un projet culturel, différents acteurs d’un même territoire : institutions culturelles (musées, centres d’art, etc.), artistes, communes, élus, entreprises, chercheurs… Tous participent à des degrés divers à l’élaboration de l’exposition et portent un regard spécifique sur l’espace qui va de Caen à la mer. Le Musée éclaté de la presqu’île de Caen s’invite alors dans l’espace public, tant par cette mobilisation des acteurs locaux que par la dissémination des œuvres sur les quinze communes qui bordent l’estuaire de l’Orne. Nous souhaitons de la sorte, au cours de cet atelier, interroger les différentes représentations attachées à que nous nommons « Presqu’île de Caen » et qui accueille aujourd’hui le regard à la fois singulier et pluriel de la création artistique contemporaine.

Climate and Weather: Science as Public Culture
Scientific Communication and its History – III
This conference is the third in a series devoted to historical and contemporary perspectives on the communication of science and technology. Climate and weather provide a particularly rich and challenging case study to complete the conference series. As with other disciplines studied during the previous conferences, the climate sciences are characterised by complexity: in their professional networks; their conceptual models; and the logistics of their large-scale data and computing needs. Yet few modern scientific disciplines attract the same level of public engagement, in both everyday life and passionate debate on the future of the planet. Moreover, their status at the intersection of policy, scientific controversy and the public sphere is not a recent development: the same issues and fault lines ran through meteorology from the 18th-century onwards. Shifting interests within the history of science and the development of environmental history have greatly expanded the field in recent years. The conference will provide an opportunity to reflect on these historiographical developments via a specific focus on the communication of weather and climate from the 18th to the 21st centuries. The conference will address three themes in particular: Commodification of meteorological knowledge, Media, and Historicizing climate history.
