  The seminar examines the various types of documents produced in the context of scholarly practices in order to understand how the shaping of textual forms and inscriptions is part of the scientific activity. The seminar also aims to understand how these works make it possible to better interpret the sources on which historians of science draw to conduct their research.

  Seeing Politics through Intermediation and Intermediaries

  This seminar proposes to look at politics through the lens of political intermediaries and what they do, i.e. intermediation. Intermediaries can be defined as an assorted group of actors (political brokers, political parties, interest groups, movements) who acts as a hinge between two or more levels, actors or social institutions; while intermediation , as a process, encompasses all the mediations that these actors perform in order to keep the political system intact (Zaremberg, Guarneros-Meza, and Lavalle 2017; Gunther, Puhle, and Montero 2007; Kitschelt 2004; Smith 2007). The question we are interested in relates to the transformations in the roles of these agents and processes of mediation since the neo-liberal transformation has engulfed the processes of public policy formulation, contestation and enactment.

  Seminar of the European Research Council Project "Mathematical sciences in the ancient world"

  The organization of this seminar marks the beginning of the third and last phase of the SAW project. Our aim is to explore various facets of 19^th and 20^th century historical research about ancient mathematical sciences, especially those attested to by sources written in Chinese, the languages of the Indian subcontinent and cuneiform script.

  Premier congrès du Groupement d'intérêt scientifique « Moyen-Orient et mondes musulmans »

  Pour favoriser les échanges entre chercheurs et améliorer la visibilité de nos études, le GIS organise son premier Congrès à Paris les 7, 8 et 9 juillet 2015. Ce Congrès qui fera un état des lieux de la recherche française réunira plus de 300 participants. Le Congrès vise à : encourager les jeunes chercheurs, doctorants et post-doctorants ; faire connaître les associations travaillant sur le champ ; permettre à des thèmes de recherche d’être abordés en commun par des spécialistes de différentes sciences humaines et sociales ; répondre aux défis posés par les bouleversements en cours au Maghreb et au Moyen-Orient, développer l’histoire de l’islam, rendre compte des mobilisations de la société civile.

  Orient et Occident au temps de Jean-Richard Bloch (1920-1940)

  Au lendemain de la guerre de 1914-1918, la civilisation occidentale doute d'elle-même. Convaincus de son déclin, certains annoncent sa ruine, d’autres croient qu'elle peut être régénérée à condition de se tourner vers l'Orient. Nous nous proposons, au cours de cette journée, de comprendre les raisons de cet appel de l’Orient : Quel Orient ? Quelle image s’en faisait-on ? Qu’espérait-on de lui ? L’Orient était-il un rêve ou une réalité ? Jean-Richard Bloch lui aussi a entendu l’appel de l’Orient. Il a éprouvé une véritable fascination pour ce continent où il situait ses origines. Nous étudierons, à travers sa vie et ses œuvres, les chemins qui l’y ont conduit et les raisons de cette fascination. Nous étendrons notre réflexion à l’Afrique Noire, perçue également comme un « ailleurs » porteur de valeurs différentes de celles de l'Occident.
