  Tourism, heritage and globalization

  International Geographical Congress 2016

  The relationship between heritage and tourism has essentially been analyzed as a “defensive” one. Even if the economic contribution of tourism is considered necessary to insure the conservation of heritage sites and objects, tourism is at the same time suspected to be invasive, destructive and dangerous for the sites’ “authenticity”. This session aims at understanding the processes through which tourism (seen as a system of places, stakeholders/actors, public, practices and imaginaries) becomes a major “heritage producing machine” and identifying what these new production are.

  Creative Misunderstanding

  34th World Congress of Art History – Session 15

  In the spirit of the Section’s proposal we can read: "The focus here is on misunderstanding and misinterpretation in the history of art. It intends to further study the problem of the reception of foreign, heterodox and non-traditional cultures." Everybody knows the 19^th century misinterpretation of the cloud and fog representation in the Chinese landscape painting as early impressionistic sign of atmosphere. Another example of a (tragic) mistake from the 20^th century is the destruction of the Montecassino abbey by an American bomber because of a misunderstood verbal instruction. (The American decoder thinks the German word "Abt" (abbey) for the abbreviation of German "Abteilung" (military department).) However, our understanding of the Section title is based on the confrontation of the two concept creativity and misunderstanding.

  Recherche et traduction

  Dans le domaine des études en langues et civilisations étrangères, nombreux sont les chercheurs qui pratiquent la traduction, soit par nécessité, soit par intérêt ; nombreux aussi sont les traducteurs qui réfléchissent, outre aux questions concrètes susceptibles d’être soulevées au cours de la traduction, sur l’aspect théorique ou esthétique de l’œuvre qu’ils traduisent. Cette situation est vraie pour tous ceux qui travaillent dans et entre les langues. Mais ces travaux de traduction effectués par des chercheurs sont souvent menés d’une manière « automatique », sans que les considérations systématiques soient menées sur les rapports complexes et problématiques qu’entretiennent l’acte de traduction et celui de la recherche.

  Les rencontres artistiques entre la Chine et l'Occident (1644-1911)

  Appel à communication pour un colloque international organisé par une équipe internationalle de chercheurs en histoire de l’art issus de la Peking University et Seton Hall University (Etats-Unis). L’évènement est financé par la J. Paul Getty Foundation dans son programme « Connecting Art Histories » dirigé par Thomas Gaehtgens au Getty Research Institute.
