Images and Borderlands: Mediterranean basin between Christendom and Ottoman Empire in the Early Modern Age

Following in the footsteps of Fernand Braudel, an increasing number of recent studies show that the Mediterranean basin might be considered as a “borderland”, “borderscape” or “Frontier” suggesting that this area is not strictly a border between Christian and Muslim civilization, but a basin in which the two traditions and cultures meet and overlap, with an extraordinary variety of reactions to the hegemonic practices (acceptance, conflict, refusal, dissent). The aim of this conference is to bring together scholars who will discuss, from different perspectives and with a multidisciplinary approach, the variety of themes (topics) which revolve around the common issue of reflecting the problem of borderlands as a consequence of the encounter between Christendom and Ottoman Empire in the Early modern Mediterranean. The starting point of examination will be images, i.e. the usage of images (pictures, mental images, literary images and other visual representations …) as historical evidence.

This training school provides participants with insights into the theories and practices of stimulating impact creation from social sciences and humanities research. It will focuses on three specific dimensions. Firstly, creating a conceptual understanding on the specificities of social sciences and humanities (SSH) impact and non-linear impact models. Secondly, alternative appropriate policy frameworks for maximising SSH impact. Finally, we will explore ways of supporting scholarly practices to optimise the creation of impact through SSH research, and capturing this with evaluation systems.

Le langage est un ensemble signifiant composé de différents comportements sémiotiques, servant de moyen de communication et d’expression dans une communauté linguistique. La double essence du langage embrasse la langue et la parole, réunies dans le syntagme langue parlée. La langue parlée fait partie intégrante de l’être humain. Elle doit par conséquent être étudiée par rapport à la structuration de multiples moyens dont disposent les êtres en communication. Cependant, les manifestations hétéroclites du langage demeureraient insaisissables et confuses en l’absence de principe de classification assurant l’homogénéité de la langue en tant que système linguistique arbitraire, autonome et immanent qui subsiste même sans être utilisé.

As a follow-up to the realizations from a previous scientific symposium on the “Old Book — Cultural-Historical and Scientific Source” (Osijek, October 25 and 26, 2013) and the second interdisciplinary scientific symposium with international participation titled “Literary Heritage Nowadays” (Osijek, November 6 and 7, 2015), by virtue of this conference the organizers would like to facilitate their in-depth analysis and upgrade while especially providing their contribution to a continued study of the opus of the Franciscan esthetician, philosophical-theological writer, Latinist, historian and translator Emerik (Mirko) Pavić (1716 – 1780), whose selected works were dispatched to be digitized within the aforementioned project, on the occasion of his 300^th birth anniversary.

The international workshop Sustainable access to digital cultural and scientific heritage: Ethical and legal issues is organized in the framework of DARIAH's Humanities at Scale project, as a cooperation between The Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Research and University of Zagreb University Computing Centre - SRCE. Presenters and workshop managers will be prominent experts from a variety of educational, scientific and heritage institutions, as well as lawyers. The workshop will address the ethical and legal issues related to open access to archival material and scientific works.

Digitization of Heritage Librarian Funds: Our Necessity and Obligation

Digitalizacija baštinskih knjižničarskih fondova: naša nužnost i obveza

A collaboration with the Institute for the Culture of Vojvodina Croats and the Saint Michael’s Franciscan Monastery in Subotica during the months of July and August of 2015 has resulted in a practicum for the senior students of the University Interdisciplinary Graduate Study Program in Librarianship. The students have opened a gateway to one of the richest heritage librarian funds, and the four weeks of their life with the books and socialization in a multicultural and multiethnic city, which is twinned with their hometown of Osijek, have produced valuable experiences, as well as a successfully initiated and professional processing of library materials. Established are the possibilities for an acquaintance with the valuable (monumental) library collections and the acquisition of a hands-on librarian habituation subsequent to a theoretical universitarian instruction, whereby a pathway has been paved for the next generations to become a part of this unique cultural initiative. By virtue of the prospective assets allocated by this international project, it could be possible to devise a follow-up to this endeavor. Thus, in addition to an academic knowledge, the students would repeatedly have an opportunity to be practically involved in the conservation, processing, and valorization of the heritage librarian funds.

The workshop is about sustainable access to digital cultural and scientific heritage. A normative database of names and the importance of normative control will be the subjects of Ana Kne?evi? Cerovski's presentation, who is the editor of the normative base of the National and University Library in Zagreb. As an introduction to the topic and the issue of creating a thesaurus, M. Sc. Irena Kolbas, senior curator and head of the library of the Ethnographic Museum will present the problem of terminology for a specific area of ethnology and cultural anthropology.

La quatrième conférence qui se tiendra 29 et 30 avril 2013 à l’Université de Zagreb (Croatie) se donne plus spécifiquement pour objectif d’examiner les évolutions en phase avec le développement sociotechnique du web. Elle se focalisera sur la diversification de la fonction médiation qui consiste à mettre en relation des ressources et des usagers. Il s’agira d’apporter des éclairages dans des contextes variés sur les transformations, les nouvelles donnes pour la médiation des documents, de l’information et plus largement des contenus.

Le français sur objectifs universitaires : du concept à la pratique

Le projet d'ouvrage collectif « Le français sur objectif universitaire : du concept à la pratique » est issu du projet de recherche « Le français sur objectif universitaire en tant que nouveau module : état des lieux et perspectives » de l'Université de Zagreb, Croatie. Le projet vise à reconsidérer le rôle du français en tant que langue de spécialité au sein des programmes d'études de l'Université de Zagreb et à inciter les enseignants à intégrer la démarche FOU dans leurs cours. Nous envisageons, dans le cadre de ce projet et en collaboration avec l’Université d’Artois, la publication d'un ouvrage collectif qui permettrait une réflexion commune suivant quatre pistes proposées.
