Call for Papers
Protest Issues and Actions
Permanent Section of the Popular Culture Association
The Protest Issues and ctions section of PCA seeks proposals for its
paper sessions at the 31st annual PCA Conference to be held in
Philadelphia April 11-14, 2001 at the Philadelphia Marriott Hotel.
Any disciplinary perspective may be used to examine dissent, past
or present, with either local, regional, or national focus. Recent
French examples might include farmers and truckers protest
against agricultural or fuel policies, Breton protests, labor
strikes, and protests against American globalization (e.g.
Macdonalds). Past papers have looked at the 1968 student strike,
protest posters from France, and Dadaists revolt against the Art
Establishment. Analysis of groups, leaders, broader movements, a
specific action, as well as the literary, artistic, musical,
dramatic, rhetorical, philosophical, political aspects of dissent are
all included within the broad interpretation of protest.
Deadline: September 22, 2000
