Le XXe Congrès international des Études byzantines se tiendra au centre de Paris, dans les locaux du Collège de France et de la Sorbonne

(métro : Odéon, Cluny-Sorbonne, Luxembourg)

L’ouverture scientifique du Congrès aura lieu lundi 20 août 2001 à 9 h dans le Grand amphithéâtre de la Sorbonne.



Le bureau d’accueil des participants sera ouvert dans le grand hall de la Sorbonne à partir du dimanche 19 août 2001 (10 h - 18 h 30). Une permanence sera assurée, matin et après-midi, au cours de la semaine du Congrès.

Réceptions

Après la première séance plénière qui se tiendra le lundi 20 août 2001 de 10 h à 13 h, une réception, offerte par la Banque nationale de Grèce-France, sera organisée dans les Salons du Rectorat, en Sorbonne.

Les participants seront également invités à prendre part à une seconde réception, qui sera offerte après la clôture du Congrès, le samedi 25 août en fin d’après-midi.

Les pré-actes du Congrès, composés de 3 volumes, soit

- un volume avec le résumé des communications présentées en séances plénières

- un volume rassemblant les résumés (1 page pour chacune) des communications présentées dans les tables rondes

- un volume réunissant les résumés (1 page pour chacun) des exposés présentés dans le cadre des communications libres

seront remis à chaque participant inscrit, dès son arrivée, en même temps que le programme détaillé du Congrès.

Excursions

Un programme d’excursions dans Paris et en différents lieux historiques et touristiques autour de la capitale (Versailles, Fontainebleau, Chartres, Giverny, Mont Saint-Michel...) est proposé pendant la durée du Congrès, en particulier pour les accompagnants. Ce programme est mis en oeuvre par l’intermédiaire de l’agence A.T.I., à laquelle peuvent aussi s’adresser ceux qui désireraient effectuer des excursions avant ou après le Congrès.

The 20th International Congress of Byzantine Studies will be held in Paris from 19 - 25 August 2001.

In accordance with the custom of International Congresses of Byzantine Studies, the mornings of the week of 20-25 August 2001 will be devoted to plenary sessions. The final plenary session will take place in the afternoon on Saturday, 25 August, just before the closing of the Congress.

In the afternoons from Monday 20 to Friday 24 August the round tables and sessions of individual papers will be held simultaneously.

Summaries of papers

Participants of the Congress who present a paper for a plenary session, a round table or a session of individual papers must submit a summary of their paper.

Each summary is to be submitted in printed form : A4, 2500 characters maximum ; spacing 1,5 ; side margins 3cm ; upper and lower margins 2,5cm ;

And on a disquette Mac or PC written in Word (fonts : Times, Tplus Chars, Tplus Two, Supergreek or EleusisRoman ; 12 points).

- for summaries of papers accepted at plenary sessions: a maximum of 10 pages, to be submitted to the chair of the session

- for summaries of papers accepted at round tables: a maximum of 1 page, to be submitted to the chair of the round table

- for summaries of individual papers: a maximum of 1 page, to be submitted to the Secretariat of the Congress.



No further papers can be accepted.

All summaries must be received by the Secretariat by 15 February 2001





GENERAL INFORMATION



The 20th International Congress of Byzantine Studies will be held in the centre of Paris, in the buildings of the Collège de France and the Sorbonne (Metro stations: Odéon, Cluny-Sorbonne, Luxembourg).

The opening of the Congress will take place on Monday, 20 August, at 9:00 A.M. in the Grand amphithéâtre of the Sorbonne.

The reception desk for participants will be open in the main entrace hall of the Sorbonne from Sunday 19 August (10:00 A.M. to 6:30 P.M.). A permanence will be on duty throughout the week of the Congress.

During the Congress various publishers will exhibit their books concerning Byzantium. The books will be on display in the Collège de France.

Publishing houses wishing to take part in this exhibition are asked to address themselves to the Organising Committee.



Receptions

After the first plenary session, which will take place on Monday, 20 August, from 10:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M., a reception, given by the National Bank of Greece in France, will be held in the Salons du Rectorat of the Sorbonne.

Participants are also invited to a second reception which will be held after the closing of the Congress on Saturday, 25 August, in the late afternoon.

All participants in the Congress wishing to reserve a room through the agency A.T.I. must complete both:

- the registration form for the Congress, noting the choice of payment

- the room reservation form



Passports and Visas

All foreign nationals entering France, with the exception of residents of the European Union, must be in possession of a valid passport. For nationals of certain countries a visa is also required. Participants are requested to enquire at the French consulate or embassy in their country concerning the requirements which apply to them.

All information concerning the scholarly and cultural activities of the Congress will be posted on its site (http://byzance.dr10.cnrs.fr) and will be kept up to date.



Publications

The preliminary Acts of the Congress, comprising three volumes

- one volume of summaries of the papers presented at plenary sessions

- one volume of (one-page) summaries of papers presented at round tables

- one volume of (one-page) summaries of individual papers

will be given to each registered participant upon arrival, together with a detailed programme of the Congress.



E-mail

An E-mail service will be available to all participants of the Congress.



Excursions

Excursions around Paris and to various places of historical or touristic interest near the capital (Versailles, Fontainebleau, Chartres, Giverny, Mont Saint-Michel...) will be organised during the Congress, in particular for guests of participants.
