19th Century Studies Association Conference
Nineteenth Century Studies Association's 22nd Annual Conference will take place March 7-9, 2002 in Savannah, Georgia.
For the theme of "Looking Backward, Looking Forward" we invite papers exploring any aspect of nineteenth-century culture's obsession with the past, the future, and its own place in history. Examples in the visual arts abound of the power of the past during the "long" nineteenth century, up to the advent of World War I. So too, the power of the future enraptured many with the promise of unprecedented creativity through new technologies, new means of seeing, and new ways of understanding the universe.
Proposals of one page, single-spaced for twenty-minute paper accompanied by a cover letter and a 1-2 page c.v.; proposals for a 1 1/2 hour panel should include a cover letter from the panel organizer indicating format and issues to be discussed as well individual proposals/c.v.s for each participant.
Mail proposals to Conference Program Director, Janice
Simon, Lamar Dodd School of Art, University of Georgia, Athens, GA 30602
or email to.
Deadline: postmarked by October 15, 2001.
