Submission deadline: February 15, 2002
This year's Social Science History Association conference will be held at the Royal Riverfront Hotel, St. Louis, Missouri, Oct. 24-27. The SSHA is the leading interdisciplinary association for historical research in the U.S. We encourage the participation of graduate students and recent Ph.D.s, as well as more established scholars, from a wide range of disciplines and departments.
The SSHA's historical geography network covers all aspects of research into historical geography. Recent areas of interest include:
Historical applications of GIS and the methodological issues related to constructing, maintaining, and disseminating data from historical GIS projects;
Growing interest across many disciplines in what might be called spatial history;
Historians of cartography's increasingly sophisticated, culturally nuanced analysis of the making, use, and meaning of maps.
For the conference we would welcome complete sessions or individual papers on any aspect of historical geography. Sessions typically include three or
four research papers or roundtable participants, a chair, and one or two discussants. Submission of sessions or papers can be done online however we
would welcome the chance to discuss proposals before they are submitted.
For more information on the SSHA's historical geography network see:
http://www.geog.port.ac.uk/ssha/.
The SSHA's main site where a full call for papers can be found and sessions
can be submitted is at: http://ssha.org/.
For further information or to discuss a session please contact either of the
network chairs: Ian Gregory (Ian.Gregory@port.ac.uk) or Robert Schwartz
(rschwart@mtholyoke.edu).
