International Colloquium

Paris, December 9-11, 2004

The Getty Research Institute invites the submission of abstracts for an international colloquium organized with the Institut national d'histoire de l'art, Paris. (This event complements the colloquium Collection et marché de l'art en France 1789-1848, Paris, December 2003, focusing on changes in collecting and the art market in France from the revolutionary to the post-Napoleonic era.)
Redistributions: Revolution, Politics, War and the Movement of Art 1789-1848 moves beyond France to explore how violence and socio-political changes reshaped taste, collecting, and the emergence of institutions throughout Europe and the Americas.
Possible topics include, but are not limited to: the dispersal, restitution, and movements of collections; the changing physical and conceptual status of art objects; consequences of secularization; roles of dealers and collectors in the negotiation of sales and acquisitions; the creation of national collections.

(Cet événement s'inscrit dans la suite du colloque Collections et marché de l'art en France 1789-1848, Paris, INHA, 4-6 décembre 2003, consacré aux changements du collectionnisme et du marché de l'art en France de la Révolution à la période post-napoléonienne.)
Redistributions: Revolution, Politics, War and the Movement of Art 1789-1848 s'ouvre au delà des frontières françaises pour explorer comment la violence et les changements socio-politiques qui se sont propagés depuis la France, ont redéfini le goût, les collections et ont entraîné l'émergence d'institutions à travers l'Europe et les Amériques.
Les thèmes souhaités pourront inclure : dispersion, restitution et mouvements des collections ; changement physique et conceptuel du statut des *uvres d'art ; conséquences de la sécularisation ; rôle des marchands et des collectionneurs dans la négociation des ventes et des acquisitions ; création des collections nationales.
