Summary
Announcement
Each year the Society holds an annual conference at a university in the UK a week or so before Easter. The first annual conference was held in April 1987 at the University of Liverpool. Its theme was 'The Growth of the French State'.
The Society for the Study of French History would like to announce that its 24th Annual Conference will be held at Newcastle University on 27-29 June 2010.

Extended deadline: 15 February 2010
Proposals are invited for thirty-minute papers (in either English or French) on any aspect of French history from the late medieval to the modern period. Proposals for panels of two or three papers are also invited.
As always, the conference welcomes papers on metropolitan or overseas France, on its diverse cities or regions, and on all issues including class, gender, race, etc. Plenary speakers at this year’s conference include Elinor Accampo (University of Southern California), Colin Jones (Queen Mary, University of London), and Armelle Le Bras-Chopard (Université de Versailles-Saint-Quentin).
Proposals, including an abstract of no more than 250 words and a brief CV, should be sent electronically to ssfh2010@ncl.ac.uk. The deadline for submissions is 15 February 2010.

Appel à communications
Les communications d’une durée de trente minutes (en anglais ou en français) porteront sur tout aspect de l’histoire de France de la fin de la période médiévale jusqu’à nos jours. Des propositions d’un panel de deux ou trois communications seront les bienvenues ainsi que des contributions de doctorants. Le conseil scientifique souhaite attirer la participation de chercheurs en Europe et au-delà en invitant des contributions sur tout aspect de la discipline.
Une prise en compte de l’histoire des disparités entre France métropolitaine et territoires d’outre mer, entre villes et campagnes, entre régions, classes, sexes et races est souhaitée. Les séances plénières seront assurées, entre autres, par Elinor Accampo (University of Southern California), Colin Jones (Queen Mary, University of London.), et Armelle Le Bras-Chopard (Université de Versailles-Saint-Quentin).
