La conférence aura lieu du lundi 7 juin au samedi 12 Juin 2010 à Paris, France dans les locaux de l'Université Paris-1 Panthéon-Sorbonne - Institut National d'Histoire de l'Art - INHA
Présentation
La 11ème conférence sur l'Histoire et l'Archéologie de la Jordanie s’inscrit dans une série de rencontres scientifiques initiée par Son Altesse Royale le Prince Hassan bin Talal de Jordanie en 1980. Elle reste, depuis cette date, placée sous son patronage, en associant occasionnellement le Palais Royal – en 1989, Sa Majesté Royale la Reine Nour avait inauguré en personne la conférence qui s’était tenue à Lyon, en France.
La conférence se déroule dans des lieux différents tous les trois ans (Oxford au Royaume-Uni, Amman, Irbid et Pétra en Jordanie, Tübingen en Allemagne, Lyon en France, Turin en Italie, Copenhague au Danemark, Sydney en Australie et Washington aux Etats-Unis), en partenariat avec une institution universitaire de la ville d’accueil. La Conférence n’a jamais encore été accueillie à Paris.
L’objet de cette manifestation est de rassembler les nombreux chercheurs en histoire antique, médiévale, moderne et contemporaine, en archéologie et en anthropologie, dont les thèmes d’étude et de recherche portent sur la Jordanie, ou sur ses voisins immédiats, dans leurs relations avec la Jordanie. L’ambition de ces rencontres est de faire le point sur les découvertes et recherches les plus récentes relatives au patrimoine jordanien, en éclairant et mettant à jour les développements des études sur cette région privilégiée du Proche‐Orient, mais aussi d’ouvrir ces nouvelles connaissances à un public le plus large possible.
La diffusion scientifique de ces rencontres est assurée par le Département des Antiquités de Jordanie, qui publie régulièrement les Actes de la Conférence (Studies in History and Archaeology of Jordan, 10 volumes parus) ; mais elle est aussi l’oeuvre des institutions d’accueil dans le monde, qui, dans certains cas, organisent des expositions sur les richesses patrimoniales de la Jordanie (cf. l’exposition « Mosaïques de Jordanie », à Lyon en 1989), ou publient des ouvrages de vulgarisation sur leurs propres recherches en Jordanie.
Le thème, très ouvert, de chacune des conférences est élaboré par les comités jordaniens et nationaux qui président à leur organisation, comités qui préparent aussi les divers événements devant se tenir en marge du colloque.
Chacune des conférences accorde une large part aux discussions et décisions sur la conservation et la mise en valeur du patrimoine jordanien et international.
L’université de Paris I-Sorbonne, partenaire de la conférence de Paris, associera étroitement sa filière d’enseignement et de recherche dans ce domaine aux travaux de la conférence.
Les organisateurs institutionnels de cette conférence de Paris sont le Département des Antiquités de Jordanie, l’Institut français du Proche-Orient (Ifpo – USR 3135 / UMIFRE 6) et l’Université de Paris I-Sorbonne (en lien avec le CNRS-UMR 7041 Archéologie et Sciences de l’Antiquité, Maison de l’Archéologie et de l’Ethnologie René Ginouvès, Nanterre).
Exposé de la thématique
Le thème du colloque porte sur l’évolution récente des savoirs relatifs à l’archéologie et à l’histoire de la Jordanie ; compte tenu de la modernisation des techniques d’acquisition de ces savoirs, beaucoup de chercheurs jordaniens à l’école de leurs collègues et collaborateurs étrangers sont désormais formés aux technologies informatiques adaptées à l’archéologie (bases de données, systèmes d’information géographique, etc.). On s’efforcera de mettre en commun les résultats de ces nouvelles approches.
D’autre part, l’évolution rapide de la recherche historique et archéologique en Jordanie, grâce à des résultats préliminaires publiés annuellement (Annual of the Departement of Antiquities of Jordan, vol. 52, 2008), conduit à réorienter, parfois réviser, les données acquises depuis de longues années, et cette conférence constitue le lieu le plus approprié pour ces analyses.
Une section importante du colloque sera consacrée à la conservation et à la valorisation du patrimoine.

Le colloque se déroulera dans 4 salles de l'Institut National d'Histoire de l'Art (INHA), 2 rue Vivienne 75002 Paris.
