The Terra Foundation for American Art annually offers ten Terra Summer Residency fellowships in Giverny, France, to artists and scholars from the United States and Europe for the independent study of American art and visual culture within a framework of interdisciplinary exchange and dialogue.

The Terra Foundation for American Art annually offers ten summer fellowships to artists and scholars from the United States and Europe for the independent study of American art and visual culture within a framework of interdisciplinary exchange and dialogue. During the eight-week stay, senior artists and scholars are in residence to mentor fellows and pursue their own work. Fellowships are awarded to doctoral students researching a subject on American art and visual culture or its role in a context of international artistic exchange and to artists who have completed their studies at the master's level within the past five years. Fellows are selected on the basis of the quality of the proposed project, the level of excellence and intellectual rigor or artistic creativity achieved in the applicant's previous work or studies, and the applicant's ability to engage in a community environment. Applications are by nomination only. Fellows receive a stipend of $5,000 (artists receive an additional $200 for the purchase of materials) and are provided with lodging and study or studio space and a program consisting of independent study, meetings, and seminars.
