Le colloque « l’URSS et la seconde guerre mondiale » entend rendre compte des nouvelles approches de l’URSS en guerre telles qu’elles se sont développées au cours de ces vingt dernières années à l’appui de sources nouvellement accessibles. De multiples travaux attestent en effet d’un défrichement important dans des domaines aussi divers que l’expérience civile de la guerre en territoire occupé ou l'arrière du front soviétique, les figures de combattants, les représentations du conflit, son impact sur le système et la société soviétiques, etc. Ces approches, souvent très spécialisées, méritent d'être resituées dans le panorama plus large de la guerre en URSS et du bilan nouveau sinon plus nuancé qui se dégage des introspections récentes sur cette période. L'intérêt croissant qu'elle suscite confirme la nécessité de procéder à un état du chantier en cours.

La rencontre scientifique explorera la guerre en tant que telle, tout en évoquant la sortie de guerre et les conséquences du conflit dans le « Second stalinisme » et l'histoire soviétique ultérieure.
