This special issue will look at the climatic, environmental and social dimensions of the Little Ice Age (LIA) in the Mediterranean, between the second half of the 13th to 19th centuries. Contributions should derive from the Meditterranean area, including its mountainous borders, and can include sedimentary and palaeoecological records, in addition to written and iconographic sources. The editors particularly encourage multidisciplinary studies.

Presentation

We invite papers looking at the following questions:

• What were the specificities of the LIA in the Mediterranean (magnitude, chronology)?
• Was there significant climate variability during the LIA (phases of drought and increased humidity)?
• What were the consequences of the LIA on morphosedimentary systems (fluvial responses, catchment erosion, coastal impacts)?
• What were the social impacts, including adaptations, to these climate changes?

 The special issue will be published in early 2014.
