Over the last decades the works of James C. Scott have been an inspiration to many researchers all over the world. Major works such as The Moral Economy of the Peasant: Rebellion and Subsistence in Southeast Asia, Weapons of the Weak: Everyday Forms of Peasant Resistance or Domination and the Arts of Resistance: Hidden Transcripts developed concepts, methodologies and theories that deeply influenced those who study social movements, agrarian societies or resistance struggles. More recently the books Seeing Like a State: How Certain Schemes to Improve the Human Condition Have Failed and the now published The Art of Not Being Governed: An Anarchist History of Upland Southeast Asia further extended Scott’s influence upon social scientists. By gathering James C. Scott and a set of Iberian researchers, this workshop is the opportunity to discuss research mainly focused on Iberia and that closely deal with Scott’s legacies. It’s also the chance to have a conversation with Scott on his own trajectory from political science and anthropology to history, from moral economy to anarchism, etc.
