The next meeting of the ISO WG1 project on Exchange Protocols for language processing web services will be held in Pisa, Italy, for the full day on Thursday, September 26, 2013. The meeting will be devoted to considering proposals for protocols for basic services, including data source delivery, tokenization, and part of speech tagging. Based on these prototypes, we will identify the general framework for specifying the exchange protocols, including principles for their design and the exchange syntax.

The next meeting of the ISO WG1 project on Exchange Protocols for language processing web services will be held in Pisa, Italy, for the full day on Thursday, September 26, 2013.

The meeting will be devoted to considering proposals for protocols for basic services, including data source delivery, tokenization, and part of speech tagging. Based on these prototypes, we will work on identifying a general framework for specifying the exchange protocols, including principles for their design and the exchange syntax.

This group was initially established to address the the needs for development of teh Language Application Grid (LAPPS), funded by the US National Science Foundation, which is developing a web service infrastructure for natural language applications. The intention is to work with other similar projects throughout the world and to aim for a consortium of federated grids that are accessible to all. 

To that end, the work within the group has so far involved participants from a wide range of projects in the US, Asia, and Europe, including the Language Application Grid (LAPPS), the Linguistic Data Consortium (LDC), the Open Advancement project at Carnegie-Mellon University, the Language Grid (Kyoto), PANACEA, CELI's LinguaGrid, EXCITEMENT (EU), and the Austalian National Corpus. We hope to extend participation to additional relevant projects to ensure that the interests and perspective of as many potential participants as possible.
