The international research network “Diffuse Cities and Urbanization” (DUCN) launches a regular research seminar. The international research network “Diffuse Cities and Urbanization” (DUCN) launches a regular research seminar. Its objective is to address the debates surrounding the contemporary worldwide diffusion of urbanization, in order to contribute to the production of new epistemologies of the urban in a global and comparative perspective. Not only the territorial diffusion of urbanization poses major challenges in terms of governance, but it also offers an intriguing research object which stimulates the production of ‘new geographies of urban knowledge’ (Roy 2009). Such geographies require the elaboration of new analytical frames which transcend the dichotomies between urban and rural, North and South, Western and postcolonial (Brenner and Schmid 2015). Our research seminar aims to contribute to the production of such analytical frames. It does so by providing a space where diverse disciplinary and thematic perspectives and approaches on urban diffusion and the diffusion of urbanization are presented in a comparative and relational perspective (Ren and Luger, 2015).

Le 6 Avril prochain le Réseau international de recherche sur les villes diffuses – DCUN (Diffuse Cities & Urbanization Network) organise le troisième séminaire de son cycle « New Urban Epistemologies & Diffuse Urbanization ».

Cette séance, intitulée "Economic Activities & Diffuse Urbanization", portera spécifiquement sur l’un des thèmes que le DCUN se propose d’explorer : la place des activités économiques dans les processus d’urbanisation diffuse. Elle s’articule autour de deux interventions.

La première est assurée par Laetitia Dablanc (IFSTTAR – Université Paris Est) dont la présentation portera sur les nouveaux paysages de la métropole logistique et qui pointera en particulier la place croissante des entrepôts sur des territoires en recomposition.

La seconde est assurée par Julien Birgi (Doctorant en géographie et Urbaniste à Bordeaux Métropole) qui partagera son expérience concernant le développement de clusters économiques dans la région centrale de l’île de Java (Indonésie) dédié à l’industrie du meuble et poussant à une réorganisation des territoires et à l’apparition de nouvelles organisations spatiales diffuses.

Nous terminerons par une discussion avec les participants.
