Ces appareils se sont employés à gouverner des territoires et des populations à travers de multiples réseaux administratifs, fiscaux, policiers et judiciaires. En même temps, de nouveaux mécanismes de légitimation du pouvoir politique ont vu le jour à partir d’une sphère publique et de la dissémination des différentes modalités d’organisation et de mobilisation collective comme associations, pétitions, manifestations, grèves et émeutes.

Modernity was marked by the edification of increasingly complex and sophisticated state system, committed to governing territories and populations, through a multiplicity of administrative, fiscal, police and judicial networks. At the same time, new mechanisms for legitimizing political power emerged, based on the building of a public sphere and the dissemination of different forms of collective organization and mobilization: from associations to petitions, from political demonstrations to strikes and riots. Finally, a new regime of production and consumption was created in the form of a Political Economy directed to the creation of markets, the movement of goods and the accumulation of capital.

La modernité a été marquée par la construction d’appareils de l’État devenus de plus en plus complexes et sophistiqués. Ces appareils se sont employés à gouverner des territoires et des populations à travers de multiples réseaux administratifs, fiscaux, policiers et judiciaires. En même temps, de nouveaux mécanismes de légitimation du pouvoir politique ont vu le jour à partir d’une sphère publique et de la dissémination des différentes modalités d’organisation et de mobilisation collective comme associations, pétitions, manifestations, grèves et émeutes.

Cette conférence a comme objectif de réunir des chercheurs travaillant à partir d’abordages nouveaux sur les sujets suivants :

1. Les processus de construction de l’État durant la période contemporaine et son articulation avec les classes sociales, les mécanismes de légitimation et les usages de la violence dans différents régimes politiques, les formes de patrimonialisation du pouvoir, l’évolution des systèmes juridiques, l’impact des conflits armés et les techniques de gouvernement employées dans différents contextes spatio-temporels ;
2. La nature, la dimension et l’impact des institutions et des mouvements sociaux, les différents répertoires d’intervention, de contestation et de conflictualité sociale, les formes d’identité collective (classe, genre, race), les ruptures et les continuités au niveau des relations de travail, le recours à l’illégalité et aux pratiques de transgression par différents groupes sociaux ;
3. Les variations entre centre, périphérie et semi-périphérie à l’échelle de l’économie-monde, des économies nationales et régionales (dans ses diverses dimensions), l’élaboration et la réception des idées, des techniques et des concepts en circulation dans un cadre transnational, les stratégies d’adaptation, de négociation et de résistance des différents agents économiques, les régimes d’accumulation et les variations au niveau de la production et de la consommation.

L’Organisation encourage aussi bien l’envoi de propositions de communications individuelles que l’envoi de panels dédiés aux sujets référés ci-dessus. Les propositions, qui lient les trois axes thématiques de la conférence, seront privilégiées.

Argument

Modernity was marked by the edification of increasingly complex and sophisticated state system, committed to governing territories and populations, through a multiplicity of administrative, fiscal, police and judicial networks. At the same time, new mechanisms for legitimizing political power emerged, based on the building of a public sphere and the dissemination of different forms of collective organization and mobilization: from associations to petitions, from political demonstrations to strikes and riots. Finally, a new regime of production and consumption was created in the form of a Political Economy directed to the creation of markets, the movement of goods and the accumulation of capital.

This conference intends to bring together original investigations dedicated to the following thematic lines:

(1) The processes of state-building in the late modern and contemporary period and its articulation with social classes, mechanisms of legitimation and the use of violence in different political regimes, shapes of power patrimonialisation, changes in the evolution of the legal systems, the impact of the war and government techniques used in different temporal and spatial contexts; (2) The nature, dimension and impact of institutions and social movements, the different repertoires of intervention, protest and social conflict, forms of collective identity (class, gender, race), disruptions and continuities in labour relations, practices of illegality and transgression by different social groups; (3) Differences between the centre, the periphery and the semi-periphery, at the scale of both the world economy and national and regional economies (in their all dimensions), formulation and acceptance of ideas, techniques and concepts circulating in the transnational sphere, strategies of adaptation, negotiation and resistance of the different economic agents, regimes of accumulation and variations in production and consumption.

The Organizing Committee accepts and encourages the submission of individual communications as well as the submission of panels dedicated to specific topics, especially proposals exploring the relationships between the three thematic lines of the conference.
