Transformations in food systems and agrifood value chains: How do work and employment come into play?

International Association on Work in Agriculture’s Webinars

The proposed workshop will target the period of repeated fuel shortages in Europe from roughly 1860 to 1960 – the century during which coal supplied more than 50 % of all energy in Europe.

Didactics, like any other fields of science, has embarked on a process of transformation that has been the product of the fourth industrial revolution. It has delivered most educational programmes to the student in an interactive way, ostensibly taking a cursive form in its relations with users regardless of the diversity of their educational field, while hiding a very complex form at the level of programming. We aim, through this international conference, to question the transition observed by the didactics of teaching, regardless of its scientific, literary or artistic field, to provide teacher-interactive lessons, as limiting the presentation of lessons to “PowerPoint” slides or PDF files uploaded on teaching platforms, no longer meets the requirements of the learner.

Judas the Galilean: the Man and his Significance

In 6 CE, while Quirinius was taking the census of Judea, the first Jewish opposition aroused against Roman presence in the region, led by a man known as Judas the Galilean (or the Gaulanite). According to Josephus, all subsequent troubles were the fact of this man. But who was Judas? Was he so important in the history? Was he even challenging Roman authorities? As usual in similar cases, the scholarly debates are endless about the man and his significance. This conference aims to survey all of the many faces of Judas in recent historiography and to discuss each evidence in order to estimate the true place of Judas in history.

The “Map of the Absentees”: Cartography, Memory, History of post-revolutionary Iran

Maps are like icons showing, on a small scale, how space is organized and shared inside the urban frame. If they are always involved in the processes of power, and they are the tool of the dominant group and symbolically strengthens its authority, they are also the tool of representation of space. They provide a visual material base to the narratives and to the discourses related to the space. Therefore maps allow artists to intervene, which means, to investigate differently on space, to represent and to bear witness to the unseen which can then get a precarious visibility.

    Hybridity: Text, Translation, Teaching

Brazil Meeting of the Global Bergsonism Research Project

Based on the pioneering work of Bento Prado Júnior and Franklin Leopoldo e Silva, Bergsonian studies have developed significantly in Brazil over the last twenty years. This includes a thematic diversity that allows a rich dialogue with other scholars around the world. This Webseminar will be an occasion to discuss the potentialities of Bergon’s work, explored in an original way through the diversity of schools and academic backgrounds of all continents. We hope to encourage and foster discussions in a concrete practice of “ouverture” – mental, cultural and social – renewing questions and problematizations around three themes: spirit and life, Bergson and the history of philosophy, Bergson and contemporary philosophy.

“Phusis kai phuta”. Nature and plants in Ancient Greece

Phusis kai phuta is a research network that aims to gather and share ongoing research on nature (phusis) and plants (phuta) in ancient Greece. We are currently running our fourth online seminar series. We are particularly interested in three sets of interrelated topics. (1) Vegetal poetics: when and to which ends were plants mentionend in Greek poetical, philosophical and medical texts? (2) Botanical analogies: what models did plants offer to ancient Greek authors for speculating about cosmogony and cosmology, politics and society, psychology and ethics, the body and kinship? (3) The history of phusis: what concepts did this term cover exactly and how are we to grasp them without ironing out their differences from our concept(s) of nature?

    Comprendre la guerre en Ukraine

CFP Forum Ukraine - The American University of Paris

The George and Irina Schaeffer Center for the Study of Genocide, Human Rights, and Conflict Prevention, and the American University of Paris hope to provide a virtual forum on May 9-10, 2022, for scholars from multiple disciplines and humanitarian activists to process the causes and consequences of the war in the Ukraine. Because of the urgency and ongoing nature of the conflict, we are not expecting polished academic presentations but short (10-15 minutes) thought pieces that help to elucidate various aspects and interpretations of the war. A primary aim is to give Ukrainian and Russian scholars the opportunity to express themselves and their point of view.
