A wide variety of terms is used today to describe the region that lies between the Baltic, Adriatic and Black Seas, such as Central Europe, Central and Eastern Europe, Central-Eastern Europe, East Central Europe and Europe médiane. However, the absence of a clear definition of the region continues to challenge researchers.

Blended learning of foreign languages: A new reality in higher education
Over the last decade, there has been a shift in education strategies from traditional methods of instruction to a more innovative methods of teaching, involving information and communication technologies (ICTs) and social interaction mediums. The theory of integrating ICTs in foreign language education combined with classical ways is a good example of what educationists call blended learning (BL). Attempting to put this theory into practice, this conference is expected to bring together different experiences of scholars worldwide to synthesize a common framework for action. Exploring teachers and students attitudes towards using different BL methods would familiarize practitioners for more professional development.

Avez-vous pensé à traduire Homère ou Virgile non pas en alexandrins mais en hologrammes peuplant un espace 3D que toutes les sciences de l’Antiquité permettraient de reconstituer ? En visitant un chantier de fouilles ou un musée, avez-vous ressenti la frustration de ne pas pouvoir imaginer la vie des gens dont on conserve les traces ? Amateur de films ou jeux vidéo, vous êtes-vous demandé comment recréer l’île d’Éole ? Philologues, historiens, archéologues, géographes ou paléontologues, nous avons besoin les uns des autres pour comprendre les sites et les peuples antiques. Pour apprendre et construire ensemble cette méthodologie interdisciplinaire, nous discuterons avec nos intervenants des textes et cartes, des recherches de terrain en archéologie et géosciences (géologie, géographie et géomorphologie, géophysique, géochimie, paléobotanique et paléozoologie), des projets cartographiques (SIG, 3D/4D, études de visibilité, reconstitution diachronique des sites, mise en valeur de l’impact anthropique par rapport à l’évolution naturelle).

In the workshop organized by Hajar, three archaeological case studies which relate to agriculture and/or water management during Early Islam will be presented, followed by responses and a discussion. These will enable another examination of Andrew Watson’s arguments from the 1980s about an “Arab agricultural revolution” or “green revolution” - this time from an archaeological perspective.

Ce rassemblement annuel permet de susciter des réflexions interdisciplinaires autour d'une thématique originale. En cette troisième édition, les participants seront amenés à interagir sur la thématique de « l’humain globalisé ».

Reinventing Public Space in Business Improvement Districts
Over the last two decades, public space renewal in downtown Detroit, as in other cities, has undergone phases of experimentation in response to emerging phenomena that put pressure on existing governance models. This includes most notably “metropolitanization,” referring to the increasing geographical scales of interdependence developing in response to the stalemate coming from increasing partisan bickering and shrinking subsidies that have negatively impacted the provision of public services at local levels. New public space governance models based on a large range of partnership forms have emerged in this context and in response to the need to reimagine urban identities, which are critical in ensuring global competitiveness.

Sur les traces des artistes verriers, entre Venise et France, organisée au musée national de la Renaissance, Château d’Écouen (13 octobre 2021 - 14 février 2022), ce colloque se place dans la continuité des travaux de recherche antérieurs consacrés aux verres émaillés et dorés vénitiens et français de la Renaissance.

Cette journée d’étude de la revue Marges propose d’explorer l’impact des réseaux sociaux numériques (RSN) dans la production et la création artistique. Quels sont les intérêts et usages des RSN dans la création artistique ? Dans quelle mesure soutiennent-ils ou entravent-ils la production artistique, sa reconnaissance ou sa diffusion ? Dans quelle mesure les RSN ont changé les rapports entre les agents / acteurs et les institutions du monde de l’art ? Que devient l’exposition dans un espace où tout est image ? De quelle expérience esthétique parle-t-on ? Quels seraient les impacts des RSN sur la médiation culturelle et la démocratisation de l’art ?

Violences inscrites : saisir la violence par ses traces de l’Antiquité à nos jours
Ce colloque jeunes chercheur·ses a été conçu comme un moment de rencontre et de dialogue entre disciplines, autour de la question de l’inscription des violences sur différents supports au cours de l’histoire. Cette approche mène également à interroger les modalités et particularités de ces inscriptions - car elles sont multiples - ainsi que la manière de considérer ces traces ou l’accès aux violences passées par le biais de ces traces. Partant du constat de la difficulté de définir la violence au présent, ce colloque se propose de la saisir a posteriori, dans ses traces, par l’appréhension des marques diverses qu'elle laisse, ainsi que dans les productions artistiques qui la représentent.

Les enjeux stratégiques du « New space »
Réflexions sur un phénomène dynamique
Le développement croissant des activités spatiales a permis l’émergence de nouveaux acteurs aux côtés des puissances spatiales traditionnelles. De nouveaux états, conscients de l’atout stratégique qu’elles représentent, ont ainsi considérablement développé leurs capacités spatiales et en font le levier d’une politique d’influence consciemment structurée. L’évolution la plus remarquable concerne cependant l’ouverture de l’espace aux acteurs privés et l’extension du champ d’application des technologies spatiales, dans un mouvement désigné comme le New space. La participation croissante de ces acteurs privés aux activités spatiales nationales et leurs divers projets commerciaux d’envergure préfigurent ainsi leur rôle de plus en plus important dans l’exploration et l’exploitation de l’espace. Ce bouleversement est toutefois encore largement en développement. S’il est pour l’instant difficile de percevoir ses limites, on peut en revanche tenter d’en dessiner les contours.

Folie furieuse, folie douce, folie des grandeurs, la folie est partout dans la langue. Mais qu’est-ce que la folie ? Elle n'est pas pour la philosophie un objet de connaissance mais un obstacle à cet effort cognitif. Dans sa thèse, Michel Foucault s’empare de la pensée hégélienne et propose une analyse anthropologique de la folie. Insensiblement, la folie n’est plus une tare mais une fenêtre sur la vérité de l’homme. Le peintre Jean Dubuffet invente l’Art brut qui expose les ouvrages des aliénés. L’Outsider Art s’en inspire dans le monde anglo-saxon. Le colloque Grain de folie... invite tous les chercheurs à apporter leur « grain de sel » sur cette question pluridisciplinaire (médecine, littérature, arts plastiques, cinéma, bande dessinée, etc.).

Y a-t-il des modes de travail collaboratif plus appropriés, plus efficaces, des réajustements nécessaires systématiques ou au contraire des difficultés irrémédiables qui mettraient en péril les projets ? Quels enseignements tirer des limites rencontrées et des échecs constatés ? Quels outils facilitent la collaboration ?

Le vélo en Afrique subsaharienne
Pratiques et contraintes
La pratique du vélo présente des avantages économiques, sanitaires, environnementales, etc. Après la marche, le vélo est le moyen de déplacement le moins onéreux. Il représente donc une chance pour la plupart des pays, notamment ceux situés en Afrique subsaharienne où les systèmes de transports connaissent un important retard. Cependant, son expansion fait face à de nombreuses contraintes d’ordre structurelles et sociales. C’est autour de cette réalité que le présent séminaire est organisé pour discuter des pratiques et contraintes du vélo dans plusieurs pays africains.

This series of lectures aims at exploring how the grand narratives of architectural history are challenged by current concerns raised by colonial and postcolonial studies, gender studies, and the environmental humanities. From the Enlightenment to the present, the speakers will examine discourses which have impacted the very form of architecture, analysing the racial considerations that underlie the theory of styles, or investigating the role French and German colonizations in Africa played in the emergence of modern architecture.

What is european history in the 21st century?
Summer school in global and transnational history
In the nearly half century since the EUI History Department was established, the contours of European history have shifted away from nation-based or comparative approaches. The department now defines itself a center for the study of transnational, global and comparative history. All of these approaches are implicitly about creating a new history of Europe, but how are they accomplishing this goal? What is the outlook for the future of this project? This summer school is devoted to asking, “What is European History in the 21st Century?” As historians call for the decolonization of history, and, simultaneously, face the historical distortions encouraged by resurgent populist nationalisms, reflection on the possibilities and problems of European history have never seemed more urgent.

Religious Actors advocating Human Rights in the Helsinki process - Part II
New research perspectives on the non-state actors in view of the 50th anniversary of the Helsinki Final Act (1975–2025)
The Conference for Security and Cooperation in Europe (CSCE) born of the Helsinki Agreements (1973-75) is often described as one of the main diplomatic achievements of the détente era, and a crucial milestone towards ending the Cold War. Yet not only diplomats played a part in the process. Non-state actors and NGOs also did their share by lobbying CSCE staff and conference attendees for Human Rights and Religious Freedom violations behind the Iron Curtain or they started political discussion processes in the public sphere of their respective countries. Drawing on the most recent research on this topic, this online workshop aims at further exploring human rights activists involved in the Helsinki process, at the interface between the Dissent and the Western public, and between state and other private networks.

Soft skills and university in times of covid-19
What solutions for what problems?
The start of the Bachelor in the Moroccan education system highlights for the first time the teaching of Soft Skills. These represent a new transdisciplinary problem and a new pedagogical-didactic challenge for Moroccan research-professors in the social sciences which require a multitude of reflections. In this regard, under the supervision of the Laboratory of Applied Sciences, the Environment and Sustainable Development (SAEED), the Action and Research Group in Communication, Culture and Organization (ARGCCO/ GARCCO) will launch the first edition of its International colloquium called: Soft skills and university in times of covid-19: What solutions for what problems?
