Réactualisation des matériaux et savoir-faire préindustriels

Perspectives historiques

Faced with today's environmental and climatic challenges, architectural production needs to embrace a shift towards frugality, in particular through the use of bio- and geo-sourced materials. In this respect, pre-industrial knowledge and know-how can be particularly inspiring. The aim of this study day is to understand how to design, build and rehabilitate using ancient techniques. The aim is to examine gestures and know-how in relation to so-called traditional building materials. This one-day event will call on researchers to shed scientific light on these essential questions, so as to avoid falling into the irenic trap of a return to our roots, without misrepresenting them or greenwashing them. Adopting a historical perspective could be a way of avoiding this pitfall, contextualizing it and initiating a debate with the practitioners and future practitioners of tomorrow's architecture. This study day is aimed at students, teachers, researchers and anyone interested in learning more about these subjects. The aim is to develop an accurate awareness of materials and know-how.

This one-day symposium seeks to explore the work of writers and artists whose imaginative approaches to poetic practice engage with an evolving consideration of the place of humans in the natural or more-than-human world, in a time of ecological instability, unpredictability, and urgency; whose ecopoetic engagements – on and beyond the medium – echo the dynamic and complex nature of our ecosystems and our entanglement with the non-human. The debate this conference aims to foster will build from the concept supported in the field of ecopoetics and ecocinema according to which diverse forms of activism unfold from the same imaginative processes of art and literature.

Le 36^e congrès international Hegel vise à fournir une vision « globale » de l’actualité de la philosophie hégélienne et de sa réception dans le monde entier. L’un des objectifs du congrès est donc d’essayer de surmonter les particularismes, tout d’abord d’un point de vue géographique. Le congrès entend interroger à la fois l’image que Hegel a donné, dans ses œuvres et dans ses cours, de l’Afrique, des Amériques, de l’Asie, de l’Océanie et de l’Europe, et la réception de la pensée hégélienne dans le monde. Mais pour parvenir à une vision « globale » de l’actualité de la philosophie hégélienne et de sa réception, il sera indispensable de dépasser les particularismes en termes de contenu également.

A Century of Revolutions

Centennial of the Great Syrian Revolt (1925-2025)

The symposium will explore the 1925-1927 Great Syrian Revolt and its various interpretations throughout a ‘Century of Revolutions’. The actors, initiating factors and dynamics of the movement will be discussed, as will be the relationships between the countryside, cities and the ‘bâdiyya’ (the Syrian desert). Both the thawra itself and its violent repression will be studied, and great attention will be granted to peripheries beyond typical Syrian borders. The new opportunities which could arise from the fall of the al-Assad regime in December 2024, in particular access to new archival documents and data, will be at the centre of our discussions. Finally, this centenary will enable us to analyse the Great Syrian Revolt as a cultural phenomenon, and not solely a political and military struggle.

Nature is often aberrant, or at least so disconcerting that it would be a form of ignorance not to marvel at it. The nature of animals, like that of plants, « overflows on all sides »(Theophrastus). This call for papers is addressed to all those—historians of science, historians of texts, biologists—who are interested in what Aristotle described as « the non-ordinary order of nature, » in its most disconcerting manifestations. Presentations may focus on motifs of natural strangeness, whether in experience or history, addressing anatomical, physiological, or behavioral aspects, as well as fields such as communication, technical skills, or what is vaguely referred to as the « animal sixth sense. »

Depuis une quinzaine d’années, les groupes forgés par les conflits, qualifiés généralement de « factions », ont fait l’objet de recherches comparées qui ont mis en évidence leur omniprésence. Dans le prolongement de ces travaux, nous souhaitons nous intéresser à la manière dont les factions communiquent pour rendre publics leur existence et les conflits qui les nourrissent. Les discours élaborés par et sur les factions méritent donc d’être analysés avec prudence, en examinant leur structure, le cadre de leur énonciation et les mécanismes de leur diffusion, afin d’évaluer leur sincérité et d’en décrypter les sous-entendus. C’est à ce travail qu’invitent les présentes journées d’étude, dans une perspective comparée large, susceptible d’éclairer ces phénomènes sur le temps long.

This study day on international mobility is part of the transnational turn in research on the Cold War, which in recent years has highlighted a certain permeability of the Iron Curtain. It will focus on the transnational movement of students. It will focus in particular on the universities of Eastern Europe as a place of sociability and cultural mixing, and as a meeting place for young people. It will look at the issues at stake and the ways in which these encounters take place, in order to understand their impact on the personal trajectories of these young people at a time when their identity and professional pathways are being forged.

This colloquium invites to compare, on the one hand, women’s history and, more specifically, women’s authorship and expression history without reducing them to the simple field of writing and, on the other hand, aristocracy and the concept of nobility’s history in particular. The aim will be to explore any feminine discourse conveying ideas about the nobility, whether from a nobility member, a woman from outside the nobility or a fictional female character. Contributions will likely cover a wide range of sources: theoretical treatises, epistolary or diaristic sources, memoirs, literary works, artistic and musical representations and even oral sources for the contemporary period.

Plurality and Vulnerability in Ways of Building relationships

La notion d’intimité est aujourd’hui communément utilisée, aussi bien dans les manières dont chacun∙e d’entre nous rend compte de ses relations que dans les espaces médiatiques et académiques. Elle permet de rendre compte des transformations qui ont affecté au cours des dernières décennies les manières de relationner, de faire couple et famille, et plus généralement des liens noués avec celles et ceux à qui nous tenons : le déclin des institutions à principe, la diversification des parcours des individus, la reconnaissance des minorités de genre et de sexualité notamment. Diversification et désinstitutionnalisation des relations questionnent de fait leurs frontières et leur teneur. Cela a pour conséquence de mettre au premier plan la dimension politique de l’intimité, non seulement dans les inégalités et les rapports de pouvoir qui caractérisent les relations intimes, mais aussi dans les opérations et les institutions qui définissent ce qu’est une relation intime, qui en reconnaissent certaines et en invisibilisent d’autres, qui déterminent les « bonnes » intimités et discréditent les autres. Qui et qu’est-ce qui définit une relation intime ? Quelles sont les diverses manières de relationner et comment sont-elles qualifiées ? Quels sont les enjeux politiques et historiques de cette notion ?
