The World of Silk Between France and Italy, 16th-19th Century
This workshop aims to consider Franco-Italian relations concerning silk from the sixteenth to the nineteenth century by fostering dialogue between research that has hitherto been separated by historiographical tradition, particularly combining history and art history. This interdisciplinary approach is all the more essential as it seeks to scrutinize through the same set of inquiries the entire silk production chain (from mulberry cultivation to fabric consumption, including thread manufacturing and preparation, pattern creation, and weaving). By revealing the importance of interdependencies among the various stages of the production and consumption process and the different actors within this industry, this approach leads to new considerations of the connections between the social worlds and the territories that silk interlinked.

Summer School - Representation

Controlled Languages for Musical Heritage: State of the Art, Tools, Perspectives
The objective of this conference is to establish the state of the research around controlled languages in Documentation and Musicology, i.e., documentary languages based on tools such as lemmatizers, controlled vocabularies, taxonomies, thesauri, classifications, etc. By presenting ongoing or completed research in the field of digital musicology, its aim is to bring to light both best practices and problematic aspects, in order to identify effective and shareable working methodologies.

Land Use and Consumption in a Historical Perspective
Definitions, Concepts, and Methods
The relationship between societies and soil is intrinsic to human history. Nowadays, this relationship is strongly defined by land use and consumption practices that, at different scales, increasingly threaten the common good and the biodiversity conservation. Urban planning interventions and intensive forms of production lead to the fragmentation, erosion, and ultimately, transformation of soil into a commodity, a freely usable “raw material,” rather than recognizing it as a non-reproducible good. In such a context, a revision of the evolution of concepts of use, consumption, and artificialization of the soil can contribute to a better understanding of the perspectives and rhetoric developed over time and in relation to contemporary challenges.

“Imago Mundi”. An Overview of Metaphor: Creativity, Phraseology and Discourse
The guiding question of the conference will therefore be to try to specify the linguistic and conceptual functioning of the metaphor. More generally, the conference will welcome any contribution aimed at bringing out the relationships between metaphor and the three concepts in question: creativity, lexicalization and discourse. The analysis of metaphor can proceed from both a diachronic and synchronic perspective and address different types of corpora and texts. The conference will pay particular attention to the analysis of different types of discourse, in particular scientific, technological, media, tourism, advertising, political, legal, philosophical, historical, literary, artistic and educational/didactic discourse.

Gaetano Salvemini (1873-1957) and France
The conference intends to propose an overall re-examination of Salvemini's relations with France, starting with those matured with some historians during the drafting phase of his volume on the French Revolution (1905, subsequently reissued several times with variants), passing through his relations with some important intellectuals and those gravitating around the figure of his second wife Fernande Dauriac, arriving at those with the world of Italian and European antifascist exile. Vast and significant, even if not always marked by sympathy and harmony of ideas, appear, moreover, the relations with exponents of the labor movement and with various personalities of the French socialist world. A separate chapter is, finally, represented by relations with the Giustizia e Libertà movement.

Thinking, practicing and living plurilingualism
Third edition
Reflecting the broad themes of this third conference, the three interconnected and complementary verbs of the title reflect an expanded sphere of investigation into language didactics and the construction of plurilingual identities, mostly linked to institutionalized places of learning such as schools or universities but also to other fields and approaches, to other professions and profiles involved in the exercise of interculturality and in the planning or management of plurilingual spaces. This international conference will bring together contributions from specialists in language didactics, didactics of plurilingualism, and language policies, grouped into three main sections for the purposes of fruitful exchange.

One of the greatest masters of musical theatre of all time, Puccini met with immense popular success in France starting from the first performances of his operas, despite the recurring reservations of critics, who severely rejected his music and librettos that were often judged vulgar and irrelevant. The purpose of this conference is to examine the close links between Puccini and France, both through the works themselves and their reception, from his lifetime to the present day. The papers, cultivating an interdisciplinary perspective, will focus on staging, musical dramaturgy, the production systems, as well as on the literary and musical sources and forms of Puccini’s operas, insofar as these are linked to France.

“InterArtes”, 2023 - Number 3
Today, technological advances seem to point towards the artificial creation of complex singularities. The process of artistic creation is clearly at the heart of this paradigm shift whose implications are as much aesthetic and scientific as they are ethical, political, and then legal, economic, social, environmental... The third issue of InterArtes will be devoted to critically questioning the relationship between “Artistic Creativity and Automation”, both with theoretical contributions and with essays of a historical and empirical nature.
