Speculative narratives from the margins

Social alternatives, decolonial ecologies, and critical knowledge

Choosing the margins as the main focus of this conference will help to examine how speculative fiction disrupts hegemonic narratives, bringing to light subaltern or minoritised modes of knowledge, temporality, and resistance; how it operates somewhere between the end of the world and the possibility of a new beginning to allow us to imagine other ways of inhabiting the Earth and of projecting ourselves collectively into the future. Proposals exploring these issues through the study of narrative processes, cultural appropriations, andintertextual circulations, will be welcome.

Durant le prochain congrès de l’Association française de science politique (SFSP), la section thématique 30 (ST30) questionnera ce que les forêts font aux conditions d’émergence et d’action de formes protestataires visant à porter la critique à l’égard d’infrastructures et scenarii qui, au nom de la « transition énergétique » ou de la « décarbonation », procèdent à une exploitation intensive des ressources ligneuses ou foncières des zones forestières. La ST sera soucieuse de faire dialoguer des travaux sur les Nords, comme sur les Suds, et entend privilégier les propositions qui inscriraient leur démarche dans une appréhension soit comparative, soit globale - par les jeux d’échelle ou les circulations - sur cette thématique.

The concept of Islamophobia is widely used in studies on racism, discrimination, and security policies in Europe, it remains more prevalent in Anglophone scholarship than in Francophone academic debates. the concept has received little attention in the Maghreb (North Africa), despite the region’s close and multifaceted historical, political, and social connections to the phenomenon. We invite researchers to engage with the concept of Islamophobia, as well as with related notions (such as hatred, hostility, discrimination, or racism directed against Muslims, Islam, Arabs, or North Africans), from one or more Maghrebi perspectives, in order to discuss the term’s scholarly relevance.

The LLSETI (Laboratoire langages, littératures, sociétés, études transfrontalières et internationales) laboratory organizes its biennial study day dedicated to doctoral students, focusing in 2026 on “Societies and Religion.” This interdisciplinary event aims to combine approaches from literature, history, linguistics, philosophy, and social sciences to explore the multiple relationships between religion and society. Religion is considered in its diversity — institutions, beliefs, rituals, identities, relations to power, and secular forms — while also taking into account contemporary critiques of the concept itself. Proposals may address interactions between faith, society, culture, and politics, the construction of religious identities, or the ethical and moral dynamics arising from religious practice.

How to teach gender in medicine and health?

Methodological issues and the challenge of interdisciplinarity

In the second half of the 20th century, the introduction of the concept of gender into the social sciences and humanities and into medical sciences restored complexity to the concept of sex, while producing ambivalent effects, notably thecreation of a sex/gender dyad and a divide between the biological and the social. The epistemological heterogeneity of concepts makes dialogue between health careprofessionals and between scientific disciplines difficult, reinforcing newstereotypes in research, clinical practice, and teaching. Interdisciplinary dialogue is necessary in order to teach healthcare professionals about gender and social inequalities in health. How can teaching practices be harmonized without establishing a truth regime about gender?

Every handful of earth holds a story of "de-materiality," where the sensory philosophy of earth coexists with innovations and new technologies that push its technical limits in a desire to destigmatize it. Although durable and ecological, earth as a material faces cultural resistance tied to an image of precariousness, a perception fostered by modernity. Thus, in the context of alarming climate change, reinventing earthen construction has become urgent, if not necessary. This conference approaches research on earthen construction at the crossroads of poetics, engineering, and innovation. By highlighting earth architecture in Tunisia and around the world, it offers a transdisciplinary and resilient perspective on a universal material, putting its inextricably linked material and immaterial dimensions in tension.
