    Archaeologie(s) and Provenance(s)

    Developments, research and perspectives

At the of initiative five doctoral students, and to mark the opening of the new master 2 program “Biens sensibles, provenances et enjeux internationaux”, the Centre de recherches de l'École du Louvre is organizing a study day on the theme Archaeologies and provenances: developments, research, and perspectives. This event was created for young researchers from different disciplines with the aim of establishing a dialogue between art historians, archaeologists, museum professionals and legal professionals. The study day will be organized in the format of four workshops during which speakers debate and explore the questions and notions raised by the session's theme in greater depth and in relation to their own research projects.

Fantasies of France: Exploring Transatlantic Misunderstandings from the 18th Century to the Present Days

This one-day symposium for PhD students and early-career researchers aims to reflect on the French fantasies of North American authors and, conversely, on the North American fantasies of their French receptors and intermediaries. Participants are encouraged to think about the ways in which misunderstandings shaped the transatlantic literary relations which developed between North America and France from the 18th century up to the present days. The symposium hopes to foster discussions about these misunderstandings along three lines of investigation : that of literary criticism, with a focus on the emergence of a ‘fantasy of France’ in the works of North American authors (and on the disenchantments and surprises that go hand in hand with fantasies) ; that of the French reception of these same writers ; and, finally, that of translation.

At the heart of the transnational allophone press

Production, financing, distribution, circulation and reception (XIX°-XX° centuries)

Long ignored by specialists, the foreign-language press exists in most countries at the margins of the global media system. In some countries, especially in those that attract large flows of immigrants, exiles and expatriates, these periodicals are numerous and of a great variety. For the 10th Transfopress Encounter, we invite papers on the organization and functioning of the allophone press, its funding, its distribution, circulation and reception by its readres.

    After the Yalta by Piotrowski

Questioning Europe in the History of Art and Architecture

The materiality of giving. Networks and practices of solidarity towards religious diasporas in early modern Europe (17th-18th centuries)

Making Ecocinema. Ecological Politics and Processes of Experimental Cinema

The hypothesis of this two-day conference is to investigate the fabrication of experimental film from the perspective of an “active ecology”, the ways of acting and transforming the world that accompany experimental filmmakers’ creative gestures : political and social ecologies, ecologies of technique, and processual ecology. The question could therefore be summarized in dialectical form : in what way does the awakening of an ecological consciousness affect and transform the experiences and processes of experimental film making ? In turn, in what way do experimental and artisanal approaches to cinematic creation reshape our relationship with the living and call for a new ecological consciousness ? Ecopolitics and creative processes will therefore be explored in their multiple interweavings.

    Symbioses, transdisciplinary prospects

The study of the interdisciplinary notion of symbiosis has become a subject of reflection on biological identity, its becoming within the symbiotic relationship with an associated environment (biotic, abiotic, social) and on the nature and diversity of symbiotic relationships. Using transdisciplinarity as a method, the idea is therefore to reflect, across different disciplines, on the definitions of symbioses in living organisms and their heuristic, symbolic and even metaphorical dimensions and on the nature and temporality of symbiotic relationships between living organisms, including with our germs.

    IT in Heritage

Digital for Heritage and Heritage of Digital

The new digital devices that heritage has gradually taken hold of are numerous. The possibilities offered by artificial intelligence aided by open data, semantic web, virtual reality, retro engineering, etc. are vast. They give rise to exciting research projects. But digital technologies are not only at the service of heritage, they are themselves a heritage. In this context, we propose the first edition of the IT in Heritage seminar. Beyond a state of the art of relations between heritage and digital technologies, it will bring together researchers from the Humanities and Computer Sciences working on these themes to offer them a space and time for exchange.

    Drawing from Memories

The memorization of space, explored individually or collectively, is often studied through drawings. The act of drawing is an externalization process that involves cognitive and heuristic aspects of the mental map. More generally, it requires specific thinking skills and creativity. Everyone, to varying degrees, is likely to use drawings, not only for the purpose of recollection, but also for exploration and communication. Spatial cognition and geography have long used this simple process which is widely shared and easy to set up. If individual memorization processes are investigated in numerous studies, only few of them focused on the processes and strategies that underlie the act of drawing, especially with several people.

This workshops in Cameroon propose to approach restitution through the prism of returns, i.e. to decentralize: from the countries where the objects were held to the countries and communities of origin; from Western viewpoints to African opinions; from the “works” exhibited in European museums to the resocialization of the returned “things”, recharged with multiple meanings; from the materiality of the objects to archival images and to contemporary creations. How is the possible return of objects perceived? What imaginations and expectations does it awaken? What would be the values of the returned things?

Ethics of Information and Knowledge Organization

On Asceticism: Crossing Traditions, New Perspectives

The study of transculturality in Hemingway’s work, as proposed in this international conference, has a triple dimension: experiential, transtextual and intersubjective. Hemingway’s practice of transculturality was inspired by his passion for nature and the unconstrained possibilities of receiving and transmitting knowledge that the focus on nature as a universal good makes possible.

Communication dynamics, ecological mobilizations and contemporary citizen participation

The call for papers focuses on the repertoires of contemporary mobilization on ecology and the environment. This range includes info-communication (media, internet, social networks), educational, legal (including lobbying and advocacy), artistic, scientific, etc. Consensual forms coexist with more conflictual or radical forms, this radicality sometimes undermining environmental concertation efforts. We are also interested in the types of scientific and professional commitment that lead to particular forms of activism, sometimes assumed, sometimes questioned or denied (committed scientists, lawyers, architects, craftsmen, etc.). Finally, this colloquium intends to explore citizen participation in ecology, which, carrying an ethos and a singular organization, brings out knowledge, information and expertise that feed the public debate.

In the shadow of the superpowers? Revisiting the relations between Cuba and Europe (20th century)

Contesting national borders today and tomorrow

    Actors, discourses, practices, proposals
