    The Idea of God

    A Philosophical Interrogation

Until recently, the death of God in Western society had seemed inexorable. However, a growing and marked interest in contemporary scholarship now strongly contests this verdict. Either concerned with the somewhat cursory conclusions of the New Atheists, the reductive verdicts of nominalism, or the fatalist undertones of naturalism, a number of authors from different philosophical perspectives are now proposing a new fate to the idea of God.

Social finance, impact investing, and the financialization of the public interest

Social finance covers a wide range of practices aiming at providing private capital to social organizations, businesses and funds. The development of these practices is justified by promising ways to finance development and social policies in a period of austerity that sees limits to and reductions in public spending. Social finance is a heterogeneous field in the process of formation.

How to write a Data Management Plan

    Joint EUDAT-OpenAIRE webinar

As several research funders are carrying out (Open) Data Pilots, projects and researchers are increasingly required to deliver a Data Management Plan or DMP. The DMP is a useful instrument for researchers to reflect on and communicate about the way they will deal with their data. It prompts them to think about how they will generate, analyse and share data during their research project and afterwards.

Open Data Citation for Social Sciences and Humanities

DARIAH's Humanities at Scale Winter School

The development of digital humanities during the past twenty years has increased the availability of research data in the humanities, in open access form, from a tremendous number of sources, in a broad heterogeneity of documents and formats. More generally, it is the very relation between research data and publication itself that modifies and constitutes an issue for the digital humanities, particularly through the question of data citation in the context of openness – how does one effectively cite data in the humanities for broad re-use and research impact?

It also aims to stimulate dialogue between historians of the different zones of occupation and so bring together hitherto almost entirely segregated historiographies.

How to study Asia in social sciences and humanities?

    Some Methodological Reflections

This conference aims to provide opportunities for PhD/Post Doctoral fellows working on Asia in areas of History, Political Science, International Relations, Economics, Anthropology and Sociology, to present their research and to improve their theoretical but especially methodological approaches. The broad objectives of the conference will be to foster collaboration and the creation of trans-disciplinary research projects on Asia, while discussing common issues that transcends our areas of study: the necessity and possibility of articulating disciplinary knowledge and area studies, as well as the necessity and possibility of applying theories (often of predominantly Western origins) to a local context (Non Western).

Art History for Artists: Interactions Between Scholarly Discourse and Artistic Practice in the 19th Century

The development of art history as a discipline during the 19th century has been variously associated with the politics of national identity, the needs of a growing bourgeois public in search of cultural capital, or of an expanding art market. However, the role of art training, and art practitioners themselves in the shaping of the discipline remains unexamined. Courses in art history had been systematically introduced in the curricula of art and architecture academies since the late 18th century, and spaces of art education count among the first institutional homes of the discipline, well before the establishment of autonomous university chairs. This conference aims to explore the interactions and productive tensions between art practice and art scholarship in the 19th century.

Global Internet Governance as a Diplomacy Issue

The First European Multidisciplinary Conference on Global Internet Governance – Actors, Regulations, Transactions and Strategies (GIG-ARTS 2017)

“Digital diplomacy” has recently been the subject of significant debates, events and activities at a variety of governance sites. The concept is often used without having been clearly defined and delimited. For some, it is restricted to the use of digital means, especially social networks, by diplomats to practice a kind of “Public Diplomacy 2.0”. In others’ views, it extends to foreign affairs and international relations with regard to all matters related to the digital environment, including internet governance. There is undoubtedly a need to better understand recent transformations of diplomacy in the digital era, their drivers and their nature, whether and how they might change European and transnational power relations and, ultimately, which values they carry and channel on the global scene.
