L'axe de recherche « Nation et mondialisation » a notamment privilégié un programme pluridisciplinaire relatif à l’analyse des élites. D’un point de vue politologique, il concerne l’analyse comparative des représentants politiques au sein des démocraties européennes et d’autre part celle de la symbolique, appréhendée notamment du point de vue des rituels politiques. Dans une perspective davantage sociologique, il ambitionne de favoriser le développement d’études comparatives autour de la question de la distinction élitiste, y compris avec le concours d’historiens ou d’anthropologues susceptibles d’introduire, pertinemment, des dimensions temporelles et culturelles.

Appel pour le numéro trois de la revue Espace Populations Sociétés, 2012

Espace Populations Sociétés a programmé la publication d’un numéro thématique « Populations et littoral » en 2012 (n°3). Espace Populations Sociétés a été créée en 1983 pour promouvoir et publier des travaux sur les « rapports entre les phénomènes sociaux, démographiques et spatiaux, leurs imbrications et leur rétroaction réciproque dans l’espace-temps » en favorisant le dialogue entre les disciplines des sciences humaines et sociales (Thumerelle, 1983). En se référant à cette orientation éditoriale, nous sollicitons des articles qui analysent le littoral en tant que production sociale ainsi que les rapports qui associent les populations (structures, dynamiques) et les sociétés littorales dans la construction de cet espace géographique. Les auteurs doivent respecter les normes éditoriales de la revue : un article ne doit pas dépasser 45 000 signes, illustrations comprises. Les propositions d’articles (titre, résumé jusqu’à une page) doivent être adressées avant le 10 janvier 2012 aux deux responsables du numéro : Philippe DEBOUDT (philippe.deboudt@univ-lille1.fr) et Louis MARROU (lmarrou@univ-lr.fr).

L’axe de recherche « Modernités » s’attache à étudier la construction des modernités européennes, dans toutes leurs manifestations culturelles. Plusieurs directions de travail permettent de réfléchir à la constitution de ce qu’on a appelé la première modernité, entre Renaissance et Lumières. Les dimensions littéraire, politique, philosophique et religieuse font l’objet de recherches interdisciplinaires, qui peuvent s’étendre à des phénomènes de modernité à d’autres périodes. Les liens entre l’Antiquité et la culture de la première modernité sont aussi examinés, en littérature comme en philosophie.

World War 2 : History, Art and Memory

The session will be divided into three complementary sections with the aim of exploring in an original manner a historical moment—the Second World War—that is crucial for the understanding of the contemporary world. The first part of the course will be devoted to the study of Franco-American relations during the war, providing us the opportunity to revisit well-known political and military events from the perspective of American press coverage. The second part of the course will examine the war through the official War Artists' scheme launched in 1939. The third and final part of the course will approach the memory of the Second World War through films that have played a crucial role in shaping our memory of this event, from 1945 to the present day.

Journée consacrée aux relations entre le thermalisme et la médecine et les pratiques de santé au sens large, dans un cadre chronologique long, de l'Antiquité à l'époque contemporaine et géographique vaste, autour des espaces européens et méditerranéens. Il s'agit d'appréhender un phénomène qui a une longue histoire, mais dont les chronologies restent encore souvent à préciser, et qui a pu intéresser divers champs des sciences sociales. Les communications, de nature méthodologique, visent à fournir des grilles de lectures pour analyser la question thermale, à travers un vaste prisme de sources textuelles et archéologiques.

What is coalition? Reflections on the conditions of alliance formation with Judith Butler’s work

This one-day conference aims to reflect – historically, sociologically, philosophically – on the conditions of possibility, on the objects, means and purposes of alliance formation – between minorities, with the State, political parties, and other public actors, or between disciplines, or even across species (e.g. animal-human), etc. –, of political transformation, and thus of a collective agency, in both domestic and international contexts, through the concrete and generic question of “What is coalition?” – with special interest for the ways in which critical perspectives inspired from feminist and queer theory can be made into productive tools to theorize the political at various levels, at different times and locations, but also to intervene and do better democratic work.

The second International Congress on Ambiances is an international gathering for researchers, artists and players engaged in analyzing the ambiance-related dimensions of the built environment and in the sensory construction of the contemporary world. Many approaches are at work in the field of architectural and urban ambiance, and these multiple contributions nurture its rich diversity. The Congress aims to give voice to this activity, feeding on work exploring new forms of exchange between what is designed and what is experienced, between the measured and the qualified, the projected and the tested, the material and the immaterial. The Congress will be held for four days at the Canadian Centre for Architecture (CCA), in Montreal, from 19 to 22 September 2012. It will seek to express advances in learning and new hypotheses proposed by the various disciplines and fields of activity which address the question of ambiances.
