"Monarch of All I Survey:" Literary Posterity and Cultural Legacies
We invite submissions for an international conference exploring the literary posterity of the phrase "I am monarch of all I survey" from William Cowper's 1782 poem. Cowper's lines have echoed through centuries of literature and criticism, embodying themes of imperial control, sight, and isolation, while remaining notably ambiguous. How has this ambivalence been reinterpreted across different cultural contexts and literary genres, from British Romanticism to contemporary postcolonial discourse? This conference seeks to engage with the far-reaching impact of Cowper's words across a wide array of literary and theoretical frameworks.

Thinking of Time and Space in East Asia (16th – 20th centuries)
In a past European research project, many of the speakers at this workshop gathered to explore how different actors in 16th-20th century East Asia conceptualized historical time. We mostly focused on representations of history and periodicity, particularly how different actors used topoi from the “European” historical past to shape their own perceptions of “East Asian” history. While discussing these questions, we realized that we could not think of time without thinking of space. What were the representations and uses of space underlying different intellectual activities and social practices, and to what extent did those representations shape the actor’s relation to history and time?

Le collectif propose de questionner les enjeux de seuils entre disciplines à travers un cycle de quatre séminaires. La notion de seuil prend ici la forme d’expérimentations entre disciplines, au sens d’une indisciplinarité qui explore l’hybridité, les croisements, les entre-deux. Comment une discipline autre que la sienne permet-elle de réinvestir sa pratique et sa recherche ? Être « sur le seuil » devient une méthode de recherche et de création qui, dans une période de crise sociale, économique et politique, nous permet de penser dans l’altérité. La plus-value de ce cycle de séminaires tient dans son hybridation transdisciplinaire entre recherche et création, mêlant conférences et ateliers artistiques avec des intervenant·es chercheur·es/artistes.

Extreme Right Transnational: Towards a New Post-War History
This conference aims to bring together researchers working on transnational aspects of the history of the extreme right after 1945 and provide a new impetus for fostering closer cooperation and exchange between researchers and projects in Europe and beyond. Adopting an actor-centred perspective, it will explore cross-border networks and contacts, the circulation of media products, and the exchange of ideas and thoughts, aesthetics and lifestyles, mobilisation strategies and organisational forms. While the primary focus is on the second half of the 20th century, contributions examining longer historical continuities are also welcome.

While secondary literature on Bayle has gained impetus in recent years, with a new generation of researchers (e.g. Argaud, Van der Lugt, Levitin), colloquiums and meetings about Bayle are still rare. The aim of this online seminar is precisely to remedy this situation. It is open to all scholars, so as to get to know each other and stimulate the research dynamics on the Rotterdam philosopher. The seminar takes place online, once a month from January to June.

La journée d’étude doctorale du Centre d’histoire culturelle des sociétés contemporaines (CHCSC) et du laboratoire Dynamiques patrimoniales et culturelles (DYPAC) de l’université de Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines est intitulée « Questionner le genre : pratiques, représentations et savoirs ». Cette journée d’étude pluridisciplinaire entend s’appuyer sur le genre et ses pratiques afin de rassembler des jeunes chercheurs et chercheuses - doctorant·es et jeunes docteur·es - autour d’une question transversale particulièrement riche et s’appliquant à tous les champs des sciences humaines, sociales, médicales et fondamentales. Elle repose sur deux axes scientifiques, « Qu’est-ce que le genre fait aux pratiques ? Objets, représentations, activités » et « Où se loge le genre dans les pratiques de recherche ? ».

Ecological Transition and Social Justice
Contributions to “Encyclopedia of the Anthropocene”
We seek to analyze the current ecological challenges that needs this transition and the issues of social justice it raises. This framework focuses on the impacts of various mechanisms of environmental governance on human-nature relationships and on social relations within the countries of the North and South. Contributions should be based on documentary and empirical investigations on environmental and social justice issues in the context of ecological transition mechanisms.
