    Postwar Planning in Transnational Perspective

European Association for Urban History - 2012 Prague

For this Main Session at the EAUH 11th International Conference (Prague, August 29 - September 1, 2012), we invite papers that bring a transnational or comparative methodology to bear on planning postwar cities in Europe and North America. We are interested in how ideas about planning were exchanged across national borders and how planning in turn shaped trans-Atlantic shifts in political ideologies. Paper topics can range from specific urban interventions, such as the provision of housing, to the way cities fit into broader programs of social reform, Keynesianism, or market-oriented competition. We encourage contributions from all disciplines.

    Corruption and conflicts of interests

Third seminar of the "Economic analysis of public law and policies" series

Participants to the November 24 2010 session on Impact Assessment and the Scientific Committee of the Seminar have suggested that, broadly speaking, topics revolving around corruption, the rule of law and good governance would be of interest for the next session. We feel that, within this array, corruption stricto sensu and the broader set of public agents behaviours generally described as characterizing a situation of “conflict of interest” may be a good focus. The day will focus, more precisely, on the analysis of the determinants of corruption, and the impact of corruption on economic growth. Certain major concepts such as agency or transparency should be part of the analysis and debate in order to open a broad discussion on the rationale and efficiency of anti-corruption policies.

Exo-lexical variables in monolingual and bilingual morphological processing

Exo-lexical variables in monolingual and bilingual morphological processing. The question of how the lexicon is organized in terms of structural units and how these units interact with each other during lexical access and subsequently during morphological processing, has been a controversial field for a long time. The morpheme versus lexeme problem is still unsolved, but several pieces of psycholinguistic evidence have come to corroborate the hypothesis according to which the locus of morphological effects is not situated exclusively inside the lexical unit but should be extended to its environment. In fact, one of the difficulties of the study of morphology for alphabetic languages is that not only morphology is correlated with semantic, orthographic and phonological factors, but also that stems and inflected or derived words exist as free word-forms, entertaining different interrelations.

Dealer, collector, critic, publisher…: The "animateur d’art" and his multiples roles

Pluridisciplinary research of these disregarded cultural mediators of the 19th and 20th centuries

The Caucasus and Central Asia, twenty years after independences: Questioning the notion of “South countries”
