  Historic Urban Landscape of European Cathedral Cities

  Past Presencing. Public perceptions and understanding of the medieval city

  The term cathedral city indicates an urban settlement that became an Episcopal see in Antiquity or early in the medieval period, and was developed during the 11^th to the 15^th century. These were formative centuries for European cities, during which a concentration of religious and secular powers and of social and economic forces shaped the form of the urban built environment and redefined its cultural meanings through social practices of space. The aims of this workshop are to discuss how the public of today, inhabitants and visitors, perceive and unserstand the medieval heritage (tangible and intangible) of European cathedral cities.

  Norse Myths in the Artistic Reception

  Scandia Journal of Medieval Norse Studies, 4, 2021

  Norse myths represent one of the greatest cultural legacies from ancient Scandinavia. Throughout history, they have been perpetuated, re-signified and transformed by a great variety of artistic means, from their use on doors of Churches in the Middle Ages to modern depictions in today’s media. Some of our contemporary interpretations of such myths depend, to a greater extent, on different images that have been created in the past.

  Microbes and Microbiology: towards new stories?

  What are the different ways in which humanities describe microbiology, this multifaceted and complex object that, for more than a century, has given rise to various investigations, whether in the context of national histories, institutional studies, or scientific controversies? This webinar proposes to make an inventory of contemporary research in humanities on microbiology and to understand how this research has been transformed by the various “turns” in human and social sciences over the last decades - global turn, imperial turn, material turn, animal turn, to name but few. Beyond simple academic labels, what are, in concrete terms, the new questions, new objects, new methods and approaches currently shaping our understanding of the emergence of the science of microbes, and of the technical and social changes it has spawned until the present day?

  De la transcription de l’oralité aux pratiques orales de l’écrit

  Cultures rurales et populaires à l’âge du numérique

  Ce numéro spécial à paraître en 2022 vise la publication de textes qui s’interrogent sur la relation complexe entre l’écrit et l’oral dans la production de sens qui définit les traditions et les relations collectives, dans des contextes de changement (post-communisme, post-colonialisme, migration, l’usage de nouvelles hypermédias, storytelling etc.) ; de textes qui abordent les nouvelles formes de l’oralité dans les sociétés contemporaines ; ainsi que de contributions qui, répondant à l’appel de l’ethnologue M. Mesnil, ouvrent des perspectives méthodologiques nouvelles pour l’ethnologie de l’oralité dans des sociétés contemporaines dominées par l’histoire et les textes écrits.

  Ce numéro de Politique américaine vise à saisir l’analyse politique de l’alimentation et de la nourriture et la manière dont ces problématiques nourrissent les mouvements sociaux. Car au-delà des questions – légitimes – de santé et de politiques publiques, bien souvent celles et ceux qui réclament d’autres manières de se nourrir le font au nom d’un modèle de société et de communauté qui s’écarte du mainstream. L’alimentation est aussi source de socialisation et de sociabilité, d’éducation (Flammang), un des lieux où se jouent, viscéralement, des problématiques liées au genre en particulier (Counihan), mais aussi à la race (Witt, Opie) ou à la classe (Finn).

  Teaching to Treat: Medical Education in the Empires (18th-20th centuries)

  This online workshop aims to bring together early career researchers to share their research into the history of colonial medical education. While the application is open to all, the committee particularly encourages those focusing on the 18^th-20^th century British and French Empires. It will prioritise research projects based on archives in colonies or former colonies. The workshop will take the format of discussions of pre-circulated, short papers (drafts) prepared by all participants. We plan to publish a selection of workshop papers as a special issue in a peer-reviewed journal.

Autant que les religions institutionnalisées et les NMR, les spiritualités s’étendent à échelle mondiale, via des processus de diffusion et jusqu’à un certain point, des mouvements migratoires.

  Islamic Legacy: Narratives East, West, South, North of the Mediterranean (1350-1750)

  A thesaurus under discussion

  Studying the relations between Christianity and Islam in late medieval and early modern Europe and the Mediterranean means to cover a vast geographical region, which is diverse in its languages and cultures. Against this background it is necessary to find a common ground that makes it possible to understand the exchange between these two cultures as one border-crossing phenomenon. To achieve this comprehensive understanding, it is necessary to identify overarching ideas and common terms that are widely used in this field of research. Some of these terms are used analogically or even equivalent in different languages, which emphasizes the fact that there were similar images circulating throughout Europe and the Mediterranean.

  The French Colonial Historical Society awards two book prizes annually for the best books on French colonial history published during the preceding year. The Boucher Prize is awarded in honor of long-time members and active supports Mary Alice and Philip Boucher, and recognizes the best book on the French colonial experience from the 16^th century to 1815. The Heggoy Prize is awarded in honor of FCHS founding member Alf Andrew Heggoy, and recognizes the best book on the French colonial experience from 1815 to the present.

  Racismo ambiental y desigualdades en salud

  El objetivo de este número de la Revista Socioscapes es analizar críticamente la relación entre el racismo, la salud y el medio ambiente, en particular la relación entre el racismo ambiental y las desigualdades de salud, el entrelazamiento de los males ambientales con los males sociales del racismo y el capitalismo, mediante la recopilación de estudios teóricos o empíricos. Desde una perspectiva multidisciplinaria, en este número de la Revista se acogen contribuciones de diferentes campos de estudio, entre los que se incluyen (pero no se limitan a) la sociología, las ciencias políticas, la antropología, la economía política, la geografía, la epidemiología, la salud pública, los estudios urbanos y rurales, los estudios ambientales, los estudios de justicia ambiental, la teoría crítica de la raza, el feminismo crítico de la raza, la ecología política y el ecofeminismo.

  Online series on key issues facing Western European collections and public services will encourage debate and surface new ideas. The sessions will focus on three areas: new models for collaborative collection development and services; the growing range of content and format types and their significance for libraries and researchers; and the evolving role of libraries and librarians in the research process. The multiple effects of the pandemic on libraries and academic institutions clearly demonstrate that the topics chosen for the forum—cooperation and sharing of collections, services, and technology among libraries, scholars, and members of the book and publishing communities—are particularly pertinent in today’s library environment.
