  Connected histories? Expectations of the last days in Islam, Judaism and Christianity from the 15th to the 17th centuries

  The aim of the conference is to check to what extent we can write a connected history of messianism and apocalyptics in the monotheistic religions from the 15^th to the 17^th centuries. The conference is conceived as a framework for discussing hypotheses and exploring possible connections between Islamic, Jewish and Christian believes about the Last Days.

  Male bonds in nineteenth-century art

  Male Bonds is a two-day international conference that aims to explore the place of male bonds in nineteenth-century artistic practice and visual arts. The conference invites participants to reflect on the ways in which changing notions of masculinity and male sexuality impacted forms of sociability between men in the artistic scene of the long nineteenth century. In so doing, it seeks to build a bridge between traditional art-historical scholarship and the fields of gender and gay and lesbian studies.

  The idiosyncrasy of indigenism in Latin America

  Plurality of sources and extra-Latin American appropriations

  The theme of this forthcoming issue of Artelogie deals with the indigenism as a centrifugal, plurisecular and cross-cultural phenomenon. We would like to study it as transfers between cultures, which are very different at different moments in history - i.e. the pre-Colombian era- and in the space. Thus, a multidisciplinary approach seems essential, linking art history, the history of the ideas, and anthropology. In this study it is also necessary to consider the themes of  political, diplomatic, and economic exchange between France and Latin American countries.

  Software Sustainability: Quality and Re-usability

  Sustainability of software and services is one of the core technological challenges research infrastructures – not only in the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences – are facing. This workshop's purpose is to discuss whether it is possible to combine existing approaches into a set of guides and handbooks to enable developers to ensure software quality from the start and collaboratively with infrastructure providers create a service that is than usable by end users.The workshop is a joint effort by DARIAH-DE and DARIAH-EU within the DESIR project.

  Against Conventions. Uncommon social roles of women and men from Early Modern Times to 1945

  The organizers propose to use tools which the category of gender gives in humanistic and social studies. However, we would like to overcome present tendencies to separate studies related to women or men. We hope that during the meeting it will be possible to capture mechanisms occurred while undertaking tasks which were contrary to social norms from both “feminine”, and “masculine” perspectives. We are aware that definitely more women  struggled with social boundaries. Nevertheless, we consider the reflection on men’s experience, who also faced such challenges, as equally important.

  Representations of Change

  Time, Space, and Power in Qualitative Research on the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) Region and Europe

  Since the start of the 21^st century seemingly unpredictable change, in all its different guises, has fueled the preoccupations of academic and non-academic publics. The financial crisis, the “Arab Spring”, protest movements in southern Europe, the rise of Daesh and right-wing populism, as well as the environmental crisis all make it very difficult to rely on Francis Fukuyama’s theory of “end of history”, which now seems to merely reflect the euphoria of liberal elites following the collapse of the Soviet Union (1992). This workshop intends to reflect more closely on the webs of power affecting both the researcher and‚ the researched when they intend to represent change.

  Regards sur les Amériques

  A l’occasion de son 11ème numéro, RITA propose d’interroger dans sa section théma les liens entre pouvoir et médias dans les Amériques. Plusieurs pistes de réflexion peuvent d’ores et déjà être évoquées sans pour autant êtres exclusives. Des articles qui porteront sur l’analyse critique des médias officiels ou sur les médias d’opposition, dans des contextes historiques et géographiques variés, seront naturellement les bienvenus. D’autres contributions pourront porter sur les effets des différentes formes de traitement médiatique réservées aux mouvement populaires. Des analyses critiques sur les relations entre médias et pouvoirs économiques sont également encouragées. Le dossier pourra également intégrer des réflexions sur la diversification récente des médias d’information, en se focalisant par exemple sur l’émergence des médias « alternatifs » sur Internet, ou traiter également du pouvoir des fake news dans la construction des représentations collectives.

  The Presence of Women Editors in the Press Industry (1850-1950)

  This panel is part of the 49^th annual Northeast modern language association (NeMLA) convention which will take place in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania from the 12^th until the 15^th of April 2018. We wish to examine the active participation of women in the public dialogue through the prism of their periodical publications. By looking into their practices of textual transfer, their editorial strategies and the transnational networks that they established, this panel sheds light on the content, structure, and functions of the periodical press in the long 19^th century. Scholars are encouraged to explore the ways in which women’s journals shaped socio-cultural transitions by conducting comparative research across nations, cultures, and historical periods.

Le colloque se propose d'analyser dans une perspective multidiscliplinaire (la participation de sociologues, anthropologues, historiens, philosophes, experts de littératures anciennes et modernes est souhaitée) les problèmes posés par les notions d'indentité, alterité, transformation, soit à partir de l'examen de cas d'études, soit à partir d'une perspective epistémologique.

  Gouverner par la prédiction ?

  Modèles, données et algorithmes dans et pour l'action publique

  L’action publique est traversée par des intentions d’anticiper les situations futures, pour mieux définir les décisions à prendre au présent. Face à l’incertitude et aux risques, elle reprend à son compte la pratique scientifique qui consiste à calculer et modéliser ces situations pour mieux anticiper, sinon les prédire. Que le futur soit objet de connaissance et d'action n'est pourtant pas chose nouvelle. Quelle est la caractéristique du rapport politique contemporain aux futurs ? Qui prédit, comment et avec quels effets sur les politiques conduites, les controverses qui les entourent, les rapports de pouvoir ? Comment les différentes pratiques de computation et de prédiction, des modèles computationnels au traitement algorithmique des données, s’institutionnalisent-elles, ou en viennent à être contestées, et changent ?
