  Ce dossier va recevoir des articles sur la presse périodique (journaux, revues, almanachs, bulletins, annales etc.) publiée en langue étrangère(différente de la langue national) dans quelque pays des Amériques du Nord, Centrale ou du Sud. Ils sont attendus contributions variées traitant des questions sur la production, circulation et diffusion des supports, ainsi que des études sur médiateurs culturels, qu’il s’agisse de personnes ou institutions. Ils seront acceptés des textes avec des approches les plus divers concernant les transferts culturels, histoire globale, histoires croisées, histoires connectées parmi autres, avec le but d’envisager les caractéristiques transnationales des imprimés publiés en langue allophone.

  Mendicants on the margins

  A one-day symposium on the theme of “Mendicants on the Margins” will take place at University College Cork on the 27 June 2018. It is organised as part of the IRC-funded project “Spiritual Infrastructure, Space and Society: The Augustinian Friars in Late Medieval Ireland”. Speakers from Ireland and abroad will tackle a variety of aspects relating to the geenral theme on Mendicants on the Margins, from mendicant orders in geographical margins, the lesser-known orders such as the Augustinian friars, female communities and the Franciscan Third Order, to mendicant communities on the margins of the traditional model of urban mendicancy, such as foundations in non-urban environments, and aspects of mendicant studies challenging the traditional historiography of mendicant orders.

  Callaloo invites papers for a special issue on “Misperformance: Staging Law and Justice in the African Diaspora” guest edited by Jason Allen-Paisant (University of Leeds, United Kingdom). This special issue of Callaloo wishes to consider forms of performance that engage the legal apparatuses of colonialism as a site for critical thought and intervention in the political present. We wish to harness the enabling potential of the concept of “failing yet performing acts” for providing new understandings of performative interventions that confront histories of racial violence and imperial crimes despite disavowal, lack of official recognition, and absence of memorialization.

Prints from the British Museum, a presentation of modern and contemporary American prints from the British Museum collection. To mark the opening of The American Dream, join us for “Art, Life and Politics: American Printmaking from the 1960s to Today” a two-day international conference organized in conjunction with the exhibit.   Marfins Africanos

  No Mundo Atlântico, 1400-1900

  Desde Abril de 2015, a equipa internacional do projecto “Marfins Africanos no Mundo Atlântico: uma reavaliação dos marfins luso-africanos” (Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia: PTDC/EPH-PAT/1810/2014), constituída por 27 investigadores  das Universidades de Lisboa e Évora, e da Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, no Brasil, tem desenvolvido uma investigação sobre o comércio, circulação e produção de marfim africano, em bruto e esculpido, no espaço atlântico entre os séculos XV e XVIII. Foi feita uma identificação e inventariação de objectos nas colecções portuguesas e brasileiras, em Minas Gerais, bem como uma recolha de referências e descrições nas fontes escritas portuguesas. Pela primeira vez uma selecção de marfins foi alvo de análises laboratoriais com vista a contribuir para dilucidar cronologias e proveniências. A equipa de investigação do projecto tem construído propostas de reinterpretação da cultura material a partir dos contextos africanos da sua produção.

  La guerre comme zone de contact au XIXe siècle

  Cette journée d’étude se propose d’initier un débat sur les formes de la rencontre et celles des transferts en temps de guerre pendant un « long dix-neuvième siècle » (1789-1914). Nous souhaitons également travailler sur la manière dont les historiens utilisent les nouvelles méthodes numériques et transforment les études de cas de façon à rendre leurs résultats plus largement accessibles. Le choix de cette période est déterminé par la richesse de ses multiples innovations dans des domaines comme la communication, les transports de masse, l’armement, le droit international concernant la conduite de la guerre, qui ont alimenté une fructueuse réflexion sur le fait de savoir si le XIX^e siècle ouvrait la voie à la totalisation de l’activité guerrière ou s’il devait être évalué en ses propres termes.

  The course France & the European Union investigates the political economy of European integration from the end of the Second World War to present day with a particular focus on the role played by France in this development.  It considers the incentives that have led an ever-larger group of European nations to form multilateral agreements around a growing range of policies that now incorporate such diverse spheres as defense, economics, and human rights. It then turns to the challenges Europe faces in maintaining the European Union (EU) in the face of growing skepticism among national electorates as well as attempts to undermine the EU (by Russia) or withdraw support from it (by the U.K. and the U.S.).

  NYU Paris is seeking a part-time lecturer to teach the following undergraduate course in History: “Modern France from the Revolution to the Present”. The course covers changes over time in politics, culture, and social life and pays particular attention to the successive crises that have challenged France's stature, stability, and republican model. These crises include the recurring revolutionary upheavals, the challenges to the nation’s imperial ambitions, the Dreyfus Affair, the two world wars, and the traumas of Vichy and the Algerian war. We also examine the evolving meaning of French citizenship and national identity, conflicts between religion and the republic, and France's efforts post-war to establish and anchor a European community.

  This topical issue of Open Economics invites submissions that explore both qualitatively and quantitatively how various cities have developed into global hubs of economic activity both historically and contemporaneously. The theoretical and methodological focus of this issue is the application of comparative methods for the purpose of analyzing economic systems in terms that go beyond neo-classical assumptions of economic theory found in conventional macro and micro economics. This also connects to the scholarly discourse on the varieties of capitalism or modernity as a perspective expected to be instructive for considering the preconditions for and effects of the rise of global financial and economic centers, such as London, New York and Hong Kong historically and Singapore, Tokyo and Shanghai more recently.
