  Twelfth Conference of the European Network for the Sociological and Demographic Study of Divorce

  INED, the French National Institute for Demographic Studies, hosts the twelfth Meeting of the European Network for the Sociological and Demographic Study of Divorce. The conference will take a broad approach to union dissolution, considering both divorce and separation for non-married partnerships. We particularly welcome papers on the antecedents of union dissolution with a particular attention to the changing determinants overtime. Furthermore, we invite papers on different aspects of the consequences of separation and divorce. Separation and divorce concerns different protagonists: women, men and children, in different aspects of their life. The conference will be held in Paris, France on 2-4 October 2014.

  EPFL is offering a high-profile post-doc position

  The purpose of the post-doc research is to test and possibly validate the feasibility and relevance of ecosystem capital accounts (SCEEA-CEC) or, said differently, the contribution of natural capital to productive systems, in a regional context (the Rhone river basin). The approach should cover the following aspects: availability, collection and processing of geographic and monitoring data and statistics, relevance of the assessments in natural and social sciences, relevance of the information tools ability to support the regulatory and economic instruments of environmental governance of institutional and territorial spaces.

  Des jeux « traditionnels » aux jeux numériques

  Depuis le début des années 2000, l’étude des jeux numériques a pris une place considérable dans la littérature académique consacrée aux phénomènes ludiques, au point où de nombreux articles se proposant de faire un état des lieux des « game studies » actuelles se concentrent essentiellement sur les travaux abordant les jeux sur ce support. Pour questionner les relations qui s’établissent entre jeux « traditionnels » et jeux numériques, cet appel se décline en cinq thématiques qui donneront une vision assez large des différents genres d’articulation envisageables. Tous les types de recherches, fondamentales ou appliquées, et approches disciplinaires sont concernés.

  Transformations without Revolutions? How Feminist and Lgbtqi Movements Changed the World

  A special issue of Zapruder World: Transnational Journal for the History of Social Conflicts

  A special issue of Zapruder World: "Transnational Journal for the History of Social Conflicts" edited by Sabrina Marchetti, Vincenza Perilli and Elena Petricola. The journal focuses on social conflict paying particular attention to conflicts as movements rather than focusing on their resolutions, so as to better connect the history of social conflicts with current transnational cycles of protest. It therefore uses “social conflict” as an interpretative category rather than simply an object of analysis, exploring it through concepts and methodologies that address the complex interaction between the “local” and the “global”. Zapruder World is animated by an aspiration towards “global history” but intentionally leaves its actual definition, contents, and methods open for discussion.

  This issue of Art History Supplement seeks to address issues regarding the work of French philosopher and art historian Louis Marin (1931 – 1992) and the material shift in art history. What do we actually mean by the study of material culture in history of art? One may support that the artefacts that are not considered art are part of the material culture.  However, do we subsequently, if not intentionally, tend to separate the notions of art and material? Whilst, despite art being “mirror” or representation, it is primarily of a material nature.

This Summer Academy offers early-career scholars an opportunity to follow up on the debates about modernity, its preconditions and its aftermath by focusing on the multifarious processes in which societies outside Europe have adopted, translated, rejected or produced the global, the modern and tradition since the seventeenth century. It places a specific focus on the notions of subjectivity and objectivity as discursive practices which are intrinsically linked to each other.

The aim of the NEARCH project is to explore and strengthen the relationships between European citizens with archeology, particularly through art projects. In this context, the CENTQUATRE in Paris and the JAN VAN EYCK ACADEMIE in Maastricht therefore invite artists from all disciplines who are interested in the link between art and archeology, to apply for residency in their buildings.

  O Congresso Internacional "Manuscritos Medievais em Movimento" encontra-se em curso. A circulação de obras, imagens, modelos e idéias na Península Ibérica durante a Idade Média" é a segunda edição da iniciativa "Medieval Europe in Motion", celebrada pela primeira vez em Lisboa em 2013, e organizada pelo Instituto de Estudos Medievais da Universidade Nova de Lisboa. A fim de criar sinergias académicas e científicas internacionais, esta segunda edição resulta de uma colaboração entre o Instituto de Estudos Medievais da UNL, o Grupo de Investigação “Tardogótico” da Universidade de Cantabria e do Instituto de Estudos Medievais da Universidade de León.

  Polices et ordre public en France et en Angleterre (1750-1850)

  Les perspectives de l’historiographie contemporaine

  Traditional historiography has often opposed the French police model to its English counterpart. However, for twenty years, many researchers relativized the differences of these models and focused more on the interactions between cultures of social control. Recent studies have shown the limits of approaches focused on the only national police models as well as the importance of the circulation of police knowledge and technics in the late 18th century and early 19th century. Everywhere in Europe, this period is marked by the will to reform and by reflections on the procedures for the exercise of the police. Through a panel of international researchers, the conference aims to investigate beyond the national perspective by questioning the permanence and changes in police practices on both sides of the Channel. We will ultimately highlight the major trends of contemporary historiography and identify new paths of work.

  What impact on the modes of local governance?

  The departments of contemporary studies of IFEA (Istanbul) and IFPO organize a workshop in Erbil, the 29th of May 2014. This workshop aims at analysing the evolving dynamics of the Kurdish populated areas in Turkey, Iraq, Syria and Iran. More precisely, it will focus on the changing interactions between the nation-states and the Kurdish political actors, and on the impacts of these transformations on the modes of local governance.

  Meyerbeer and French Grand opéra

  Organized in conjunction with the 150° anniversary of the death of Giacomo Meyerbeer, this conference aims to celebrate this composer as well as the development of French Grand opéra after 1831 (the year of Robert le diable). Meyerbeer’s theatrical production system estabilished a Grand opéra model in France and abroad that promoted the reputationy of Parisian productions. The Meyerbeerian standard was assimilated particularly in Germany and Italy; but it also provoked severe criticism, sometimes related to extra-operatic issues such as the composer’s Jewish origin.

  Accounting Professions in the Arab Region

  Beyond Standardization: Professionel Dybnamics and Challenges

  Arab countries are confronted, like other countries, to the pressure of standardization, but each one of them is responding from the back ground of its particular history. In such a framework, accounting professions have developed, are regulated, have built professional organizations and training institutions, and are now pressed to adopt international standards. International audit firms tend to impose their methods and model with the expansion of transnational corporation, the multiplication of joint ventures and franchised colmpanies. Beyond cultural gaps, historical evolution and political-economic features, reforms are being designed universally, under the pressure of the World Bank. A better understanding of the accounting profession, of practitioners aims and stakes, can point a way forward. The aim of this project is to discuss these issues in the Arab countries, and to contribute by so doing to a new vision of what is at stake in the recent upheavals they have witnessed.
