    Literatur and Psychiatrie revisited, 1920–1970

Momente gegenseitiger Beobachtung | Moments d'observation mutuelle

    The City and Housing

The Problem of Urban Extensions & Informal Housing

Studies on informal housing are often fragmented, limiting the overall understanding of the issue. Beyond housing precariousness, informal housing encompasses a complexity of aspects influenced by various economic, social, and political factors, with a perspective often focused on Southern countries. A multidisciplinary approach is necessary to fully grasp these dynamics and formulate inclusive urban policies adapted to all societies.

Crises, emerging risks and resilience. Challenges for risk management in a changing world

    Revue « Laboreal »

A global scenario marked by multifaceted crises - environmental, health, geopolitical and social - is challenging our ability to rethink real work, reduce risks and support productive activity. In both the public and private sectors, facing an increasingly uncertain environment makes it necessary to develop capacities to anticipate threats and manage critical risks in order to avoid crises and recover when this has not been achieved. Laboreal invites researchers involved in these topics to submit their work and contribute to the publication of this issue. Papers detailing field experiences, which provide access to real work, will be given priority. The articles will be published in one of the journal's two languages (Spanish or Portuguese).

    Contemporary Societies Facing Risks

Contexts, actors, experiences, and response stakes

By the midst of the the twentieth century, the world had become the scene of profound social and historical transformations sustained technological and ecological developments. Such transformations often testify to the transition from the first modernity of an industrial aspect to the second modernity, usually characterized by “cosmic risks”. Consistent with these transitions, the concept of risk has witnessed remarkable developments, evolving into an integrated approach adopted in the analysis of the profound changes in industrial society whereby the unforeseen consequences of human actions have become more frequent, intense, and influential, posing a threat to human existence altogether. Diverse scientific studies addressing the issue of risk(s) across different fields point to the structural and complex crisis accompanying the “second modernity”.

Interdisciplinary Franco-Latin-American perspectives on challenges related to the environment

Since the 1970s, environmental issues have continued to grow. Indeed, we have moved from a localized perception of environmental damage to a global understanding of the risks associated with climate change and their impacts on socio-ecosystems. In order to better respond to the challenges and stakes of the environmental crisis that is impacting us, it seems appropriate to share and make known the experiences and theories developed from different continents, cultures and geographies in order to enrich our object of study. In this regard, this Congress, which will be held from October 23 to 27, 2023 in Costa Rica, proposes to offer perspectives on multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary studies on environmental issues: climate change, biodiversity, resilience, global health, payments for environmental services, etc.

The public use of subordinate writings in the early modern and modern periods

We invite contributions dedicated to the dynamics of the re-signification of subaltern writings in public space in the early modern and modern period. Ordinary writings produced by subaltern actors (popular classes, men and women, childhood) in the transition from the private to the public sphere should therefore be investigated with particular attention to the spaces used, the practices adopted, the strategies of visibility (or obscuration) chosen, the appropriations by civil society, the policies of preservation of popular memory and the pedagogical- didactic use of writings.

    Dreams of the Future

As the research training group “European Dream Cultures” at Saarland University enters its ninth and final year, we would like our concluding conference to look not only back but also ahead, in focussing on future content of dreaming in literature, art, theatre, film, and music. Key questions include: What types of futures do artistic dreams of the future envision? Are they utopian or dystopian? Are they marked as dreams experienced during sleep, or are they imaginings of the future that are dreamlike in nature but anchored in the waking world? How do they connect to the present or the past, and to which version of these temporalities? What function do they assume within different works? To what extent do religious, political, or epistemological discourses influence these artistic dreams of the future?

    Afro Literature Conference

Religion in movement. New perspectives in the study of religious History

While the role of the Catholic Church under the Spanish Civil War (1936–1939) and the Dictatorship (1939-1975) remain one of the most bitterly contested aspects in public and academic debates, in recent years, the study of religious history has become an increasingly respected as an expanding field of research in Spanish historiography. The foundation of the Asociación Española de Historia Religiosa Contemporánea (AEHRC - Spanish Association of Contemporary Religious History) in 2016 has greatly contributed to this development. The present conference aims to celebrate and continue these efforts. For this reason, the AEHRC would like to invite researchers to join us in the prospect of advancing the state of the art in our field by a) critically evaluating the successes and limitations of current and new perspectives in the study of contemporary religious history; and, in particular, b) by reassessing the processes of secularisation and religious reconfiguration that have shaped the Spanish and Hispanic cases.

This role will be understood in the broadest possible way: from patronage to creation and reception, as a channel for power strategies, a transmitter of science or a generator of specific iconographic types, regardless of their active or passive role in all this creative dynamic. Women and Gender will serve as the priority vectors to articulate the scientific content of Conference sessions.

The musicians’ activity - work, training and health

    “Laboreal” Journal

The characteristics of the activities that fall under the economic sector of music show a huge variety of places, schedules and work conditions, in addition to the informality of work contracts for a vast majority of musicians. Obviously, these factors interfere with the activity of preparation for music performance, with study habits, and most likely with public performance. In spite of that, the attention given to research and intervention regarding this category of workers is clearly scarce and there is not enough research to investigate the various aspects linked to performing music activities -- training, teaching and study practices, professional performance. Laboreal makes room for papers interested in the musicians’ activity, and invites researchers involved in these issues to contribute to the publication of this number.

Metropolitan and suburban cities: Past, present and future

    مدينة "مقرين" نموذجا

With the urban development that the world has witnessed since the late nineteenth century in parallel with the industrial development, and the increase in the movement of migration and displacement towards the major industrial cities around the world, the latter became crowded with population and expanded form contemporary metropolises, absorbing most of the jobs and major administrative, social and economic spaces. This caused a serious economic, social and development confusion for the countries experiencing the phenomenon, and a clear regional disparity between its depths and peripheries and between its cities and countryside. Its homogeneous balance was disturbed, and it turned into a sweeping polar cities because of the small cities and villages around it, with its acquired social and economic weight, thus affecting the local, regional and even the international geopolitical and geo-economics balances.
