6th International Doctoral Congress on Music and Musicology

    Au-delà de l’écriture

After the success of the Journées Doctorales Internationales - Quaerendo invenietis in 2017 and the 5 editions of the Congrès Doctoral International - Au rythme de la recherche in 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2022, the BJC IReMus has chosen this year to continue this event with a new theme: ‘Beyond writing’. We are fortunate to be able to welcome specialists and doctoral students from French and foreign universities, who will be able to speak in French or English. With a view to increasing our influence and interaction, we are keen to encourage dialogue between IReMus and other major institutions involved in research in Music and Musicology by welcoming personalities from different backgrounds.

    Ludopédagogie

    Ludopedagogy

Ludopedagogy refers to the use of games in an educational context, whether for affordance purposes, to enhance engagement, or to transform skills or representations. The games utilized as artifacts and situations cover a wide range of realities and experiences: video games, games in digital simulation environments, analog games, role-playing games, board games... While their use in educational contexts is not new in itself, the increasing prevalence of ludopedagogical practices and tools in higher education highlights an unprecedented dynamic and raises questions. Certainly, this visibility of ludopedagogy must be linked with the major issues driving higher education: considering diversity and striving for inclusion, a competency-based approach, supporting success in all its forms, the learner's experience, promoting active pedagogies, utilizing digital tools, and fostering professionalization. Given these transformative challenges, it is essential to critically and scientifically assess what ludopedagogy can contribute to higher education. How can games offer a pedagogical opportunity that supports the development and acquisition of skills?

Kingship in Sparta from Menelaus to Nabis

    Foundations, practices and representations

Spartan dual kingship is one of the most astonishing aspects of Sparta's constitution: despite the vicissitudes of history, it was perpetuated with a certain constancy in a particular political system from its mythical origins to its evolution into a monarchy and disappearance in the Hellenistic period. This preservation has been achieved at the cost of constantly reinventing the representation of kings and their institutional function.

    Women’s Voices on Nobility

This colloquium invites us to compare, on the one hand, women’s history and, more specifically, women’s authorship and expression history without reducing them to the simple field of writing and, on the other hand, aristocracy and the concept of nobility’s history in particular. The aim will be to explore any feminine discourse conveying ideas about the nobility, whether from a nobility member, a woman from outside the nobility or a fictional female character. The colloquium calls for an interdisciplinary approach insofar as its themes can be examined from the point of view of history, literature, sociology, art history, and musicology.

    Written Culture, Text, Democracy

This colloquium will bring together linguists, historians from different historical periods and political scientists to revisit and explore the more sinuous than expected path that led from the suffragium of the Roman Republic to contemporary suffrage, with particular emphasis on the intermediate stages - Late Antiquity, Middle Ages, Modern Age - stages that have been little studied until now.

Misopédie. La domination adulte dans les discours contemporains

Take part in France's very first transdisciplinary scientific event on misopedics (which is to children what misogyny is to women). The domination of children by adults has been extensively studied by researchers around the world. Especially as it is by far the most widespread form of domination in our societies. In France it is so widespread and pervasive that we are not even necessarily aware of it. It's high time French research got on board.

The Media of Art/The Arts of Media

XII. International Congress of the German Society of Aesthetics

So-called “media art” has been around not only since technical media began to intervene in the art world; there has never been media-free art. There is no art that does not express itself in certain media, be it image, sound, light, space or language. There is no art that does not rely on marble and chisel, colour and canvas, pen and paper, sound waves and screen, bits and bytes. Neither media nor materials are ever external to a work of art; rather, aesthetic meaning only arises through the respective medial-material configuration and would be invalid without it. The XII. Congress of the German Society for Aesthetics will focus on the question of the media of the arts.

International Conference on Constructed Languages (2024)

The International Conference on Constructed Languages (I-CONLANG II, 2024) offers a forum dedicated to multidisciplinary research on constructed languages. The study of constructed languages is the site of a proliferation of ideas and innovations in the linguistic field, which challenge the human ability to provide new forms of linguistic expression, for wide-ranging purposes. This phenomenon is not only relevant in linguistics, but in many other disciplines in the human sciences, as well as in the arts and letters, and this extends far beyond academic circles. The creation of a constructed language may have various purposes, but their study reveals a common set of questions, which the Conference intends to address.

The role of women in decorative arts and design in France (1850 to the present)

This conference aims to discuss and to provide a state of research on the role of women in decorative arts and design in France but also to shed light on an aspect of artistic creation. It aims to give an overview of the evolution and role of women in the decorative arts and design in France since the mid-19th century in order to complete a current knowledge related to an ongoing field of research in the history of art and creative industries. In this purpose, we would also propose to cross-analyze the problematic at an international level, particularly in Europe, in order to better address and deepen the issue.

The culture of the bottle. Uses and visual representations of alcoholic drinks in the 17th and 18th centuries

Space and scale in missionary agency (1880–1920)

The symposium revolves around the question of the agency of the Christian missionaries and their sending organizations which have been, to varying degrees, major actors of social and cultural mutations among the people and societies they worked with. Through the diverse presentations from scholars of various geographical and academic fields, we hope to get a better understanding of the impact of European and North American Christian missions at the turn of the twentieth century, and spur greater interest on this subject.

Bloody Politics: How Princes of the House of France Shaped Political Life (1661-1848)

Being rooted, being uprooted, putting down new roots : a social, cultural, identity and migration approach
