    The Environment at the Summit

Actors and representations of the safeguard of nature in mountain areas: a global perspective (late 18th – early 21st century)

The aim of this international scientific conference is to examine the progressive integration of the environmental protection theme into the several mountain ranges of the Earth, between the end of the 18th century and the beginning of the 21st century, concluding in 2022, the International Year of Mountains. By selecting a global perspective, it encourages a decentring of observation points, which in turn brings to light not only the diversity of trajectories but also the possible (direct or indirect) circulation of knowledge, materials, practices and individuals in the different mountain ranges.

    Conference, symposium - Representation

History, architecture and heritage: building the architectural identity. Milan, Europe (1796-1848)

    Call for papers - Representation

Tradition, Persistence, and Innovation in Artistic Craftsmanship and in Building and Architectural Production between the Napoleonic Era and the Restoration

    Milan in a European Context

With Milan proclaimed first the capital of the Cisalpine Republic in 1797 (from 1802, Italian Republic) and then in 1805 the capital of the Kingdom of Italy, the city was challenged to reconsider and rebuild its image and its urban spaces in order to adapt them to its new role. Part of a network of capitals responding to a single central power, both political and cultural, Milan experienced a period that featured significant incentives for public and private architectural building works and for the transformation of urban spaces. These conditions make the Lombard capital a privileged context in which to investigate the multiple forms of organization of artisanal and artistic work, as well as the circulation of people and materials. The seminar aims to reflect on the dialectic between the new status quo and the centuries-old stratified traditions inherent to the Milanese territory, also taking into consideration the Restoration period, when, in the new political-administrative structure of the Lombard-Veneto Kingdom, Milan, while remaining the capital, found itself in a new context that established a variety of artistic geographies.

    Venice, a Mediterranean regional power

Economic, maritime and political perspectives, 1669-1797

This seminar aims to explore the relationship between Venice and the Mediterranean between the loss of Crete, the last major dominion of Venetian maritime empire in 1669, and the end of the Republic in 1797. Through the analysis of economic and commercial exchanges, naval activities and diplomatic/military relations of the Serenissima in the Mediterranean, we aim to discuss the dynamics of transformation and adjustment of the Republic’s new status as a regional power faced with the challenges of an Inner Sea crossed and populated by more powerful and richer competitors.

    Call for papers - Economy

Economics and politics according to Ferdinando Galiani

    Unusual actors

Forms and effects of the informal action in the Caribbean, between legality and illegality (XVII-XXI century)

What is the role of informal institutions in the evolution of the economic, political and social aspects of Caribbean basin? Diacronie will analyze the economic and social development of the area, focusing on the role played by informal actors, namely the ones moving between legality and illegality, that were able (or are able) to give the individual (no matter if a customer, consumer or merchant) what the laws prohibit. The objective is to examine both contemporary phenomena and phenomena which, although related to the early modern age, have generated long-term consequences in the history of the regions related to it.
