Mémoire pour l’avenir, nostalgie et utopie dans les imaginaires socioculturels des « Europes de l’Europe » contemporaines

En analysant, une décennie après la fin de la Guerre Froide, les changements survenus au cours du dernier quart du siècle passé sur le plan de l’expérience et des perceptions du temps. Le caractère multidimensionnel de la mémoire historique et ses rapports avec l’avenir dans le contexte des « transformations sans précédent » entraînées par le progrès technologique et par les défis climatiques représentent également des axes majeurs dans les recherches récentes en historiographie et en philosophie de l’histoire. À l’intersection de la mémoire historique avec celle politique, la nostalgie fonctionne comme « une épée à deux tranchants », en ce qu’elle semble être tant « un antidote émotionnel pour la politique », que « le meilleur instrument politique ». Les chercheurs de divers domaines sont encouragés à soumettre des propositions explorant plusieurs thèmes liés à la mémoire, à la nostalgie et à l’utopie en Europe post-Guerre Froide.

Energy transitions and economic thinking in German-speaking territories, 1800-2000

ETRANHET explores how economic ideas on energy have developed in various market-economy contexts around the world, since the first waves of industrialization at the turn of the 19th century. It particularly addresses three key questions: (1) How did past economists (broadly defined) conceive the connection between energy, growth, and development? (2) How did they consider innovation and technological change in energy affairs? (3) How did economic discourse on energy influence policymaking, and vice versa? Areas covered by the project include Continental Europe, the British Isles, North and Latin America, South-East Asia, and some areas under colonial control. This workshop will be an opportunity to look more closely at German-speaking territories within Continental Europe.

History and Memory: Epistemological Reinterpretation of Africa's Past in a Post-Colonial Context

This special issue of Práticas da História is interested in receiving contributions, referring to colonial and post-colonial African contexts. It is important to better understand what is happening in different African countries, at the level of the Academy but also in other spaces where social memory and history confront each other, and how political, ideological, economic and linguistic factors interfere in those situations. In the case of the former Portuguese colonies, which will soon celebrate 50 years of independence, there are additional factors, such as the later end of colonial rule and the delay in historiography about Africa that occurred until recent decades, both in Portugal and in Brazil.

The Pioneers of TransAmerican Art: in the footsteps of a Caribbean Diaspora aesthetic

“Angles” journal

Contributors to this thematic issue of Angles are invited to underline the connection to these ancestral memories and explore their current resurgence in the visual and living arts. Contributions can bear on scientific, fictional, and secular literature, the genius of dance and music, and the visual, scenic, culinary, performing, visual and ritual arts. Themes of interest could include but are not limited to, decoloniality, body politics, representation, restorative justice, Caribbean indigenous thought and practices, and diasporic art spaces. In the spirit of collegiality that animates this publication project, we intend to create the same dynamic between the communities of researchers and artists of the Greater Anglophone Caribbean. This dynamic is therefore open to all those who want to maintain a constructive dialogue to advance the knowledge and sharing of Caribbean aesthetics in the footsteps of the pioneers of TransAmerican art.

Ve congrès francophone d'histoire de la construction

Ce congrès s'inscrit dans la dynamique des manifestations scientifiques internationales rassemblant autour de l’histoire de la construction des praticiens et des chercheurs, des acteurs du patrimoine (collectivités, associations, etc.), des étudiants, des amateurs, des élus et des usagers. Si les thématiques traditionnelles de l’histoire de la construction sont bien évidemment abordées (matériaux, processus de construction, chantier, droit et économie, métiers et acteurs, circulation des savoirs, etc.), d’autres sujets liés au développement de nouveaux thèmes de recherche sont proposés tels que l’histoire des techniques d’entretien et de restauration et l’histoire environnementale. Cette édition, comme les précédentes, entend participer à la consolidation de ce champ de recherche et enrichir les connaissances par la multiplicité des regards.

A global scenario marked by multifaceted crises - environmental, health, geopolitical and social - is challenging our ability to rethink real work, reduce risks and support productive activity. In both the public and private sectors, facing an increasingly uncertain environment makes it necessary to develop capacities to anticipate threats and manage critical risks in order to avoid crises and recover when this has not been achieved. Laboreal invites researchers involved in these topics to submit their work and contribute to the publication of this issue. Papers detailing field experiences, which provide access to real work, will be given priority. The articles will be published in one of the journal's two languages (Spanish or Portuguese).

Histories of Photography from the Struggles for Independence: practices, circulations and aesthetics

It's a well-known fact that the history of photography as a discipline has for the most part been constructed as that of "Western" photography, more specifically that of Europe and the United States. Between the introduction of so-called "extra-Western" photographers on the contemporary art market since the 1990s and the numerous works on the history of the medium during colonial periods, there is still a lack of information on the history of photography from the liberation and independence struggles onwards, from a global and transnational perspective, across all geographical zones. The aim of this colloquium is to highlight the histories of photography generated during the processes of decolonization, while rethinking methodological and aesthetic approaches to the medium that are still too Western-centric.

Architecture of the Past: inspiration for the Future

Architecture, in response to universal needs, has developed in various forms, in diverse environments, and consequently offers a multiplicity of solutions. This diversity of construction types is of interest to numerous disciplines that do not often have the opportunity to exchange ideas. The aim of this interdisciplinary event is to bring together archaeologists, historians, architects, artisans, conservators, restorers, and ethnologists to share their work and research on architectural practices and structures that are relevant to approach current and future environmental, social, and economic challenges. This event will also discuss how the architecture of tomorrow is also invented with an eye to the past, whether it be sophisticated or vernacular, regardless of materials, period, or geographical and cultural area. Interférences entre l’écrit et la praxis dans l’œuvre de l’artiste plasticien Nja Mahdaoui

Dans son ouvrage « Entre l’écrit et le visuel », l’artiste théoricien Samir Triki parle des « voies de circulation entre la matière littéraire et la matière artistique, ainsi que les éléments spécifiques et endogènes qui caractérisent l’une ou l’autre ». Seules ces chaînes sont capables de renseigner sur la mesure, dans laquelle l’artiste s’attache à faire correspondre son écriture à sa pratique. C’est dans ce contexte que se déroulera cette journée d’étude, mettant en lumière l’expérience de l’un des artistes les plus célèbres, dont les œuvres sont les plus diverses et les plus ouvertes sur son être-créateur, sur l’héritage et sur l’Autre, avec toutes les contradictions, bifurcations et intersections que portent ces univers. Nous voulons parler de l’expérience de l’artiste Nja Mahdaoui, considérée comme l’une des expériences artistiques arabes et africaines les plus importantes, la plus connue et reconnue par les pays du « centre » occidental, ainsi que par les pays du Moyen-Orient.

Altermédiatisation du politique : self-médias, Web TV et chaînes d’opinion

The forthcoming issue of the Cahiers Protagoras invites authors to delve into the mechanisms by which the (ideological) monopoly of information is circumvented and challenged. Another objective is to comprehend the mediagenic strategies deployed by political actors — mediagénie, defining their inclination to “achieve their full potential by choosing the media partner that suits them best” (Marion, 1997). Evaluating the mediativity [médiativité] of these new political communication mechanisms (each medium possessing a 'specific imaginary') is another potential area for analysis. Finally, an examination of moderation and regulation practices specific to these emerging media spaces is anticipated.

Trans, queer and “third gender” people in Muslim countries

Journal “Anthropology of the Middle East” (AME) – Issue 20.1 (Summer 2025)

Today, despite some prohibitions, more and more trans and queer people are asserting their gender identity in Muslim societies. Over and above the importance of gender binarity and spatial separation in Muslim countries, there are many historical figures of "third gender", to use the concept introduced by the anthropologist Gilbert Herdt. In the Muslim world, the term "third gender" generally refers to the eunuch of Ottoman harems, but there are many other figures in the Islamic context, varying from countries (Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, Mauritania, Egypt, Lebanon, United Arab Emirates, Oman, Turkey, Iran, Central Asia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Indonesia, Albania...) and times. As the vocabulary and realities are plural, depending on the country and the period, the specificities of these figures and their names will be analyzed, as well as the ways in which these groups or individuals designate themselves. This issue will examine these figures collectively as a group (hijra, trans, queer...), and their role and social status, but will also look at them as individuals.

The Role of Women in Decorative Arts and Design in France (1850 to the Present)

Women played an important role in the history of decorative arts and design. Recent exhibitions (Here We Are! Women in Design 1900 – Today at the Vitra Museum in 2021 and Parall(elles): A History of Women in Design at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts in 2023) displayed an overall approach of the question. But in some countries as France, what is the state of the issues and how is the contribution of women to be placed in this general context? This conference aims to discuss and to provide a state of research on the question but also to shed light on an aspect of artistic creation. It aims also to give an overview of the evolution and role of women in the decorative arts and design in France since the mid-19th century, in order to complete a current knowledge related to an ongoing field of research in the history of art and creative industries.
