Waste management and health safety in Cameroon
In their quest to improve lifestyles, contemporary societies find themselves faced with a whole range of waste, the quantity of which has increased considerably. It includes objects that are not biodegradable on a human scale, as well as compounds that are likely to damage certain natural resources (water, soil and atmosphere). The effects of today’s chemical waste on human health and the environment can be chemical, bacteriological or parasitic. People can feel the effects in different ways, for example in the short term, pollution can be detected by the human senses (olfactory or visual nuisance) and in the longer term, there can be health risks for people and the environment. This situation calls for reflection on public policies for urban waste management and their effects/impacts on people’s health, in line with the SND30 guidelines. The aim of this study day is to analyse the issues involved in appropriate waste management with a view to proposing solutions to public authorities for better management of urban waste, with a view to preventing harm to public health.

Il vise à examiner les musées des disciplines de l’anthropologie générale (ethnographie, préhistoire, anthropologie physique et linguistique) et des disciplines voisines (histoire de l’art, folklore, sociologie), y compris celles qui ne s’appuient que rarement sur les institutions muséales (géographie, psychologie), voire des institutions hybrides, sur le plan du fond disciplinaire et du projet muséologique, du type écomusées et autres centres d’interprétation.

Le chef d’œuvre dans l’art de bâtir du Moyen Âge à l’époque contemporaine
In the scope of the journal Ædificare, a call for abstracts is launched on the question of the “masterpiece in the art of building from the Middle Ages to the Comtemporary era”. The discussion will begin from theoretical and practical, multidisciplinary, national and international perspectives. All interested parties are invited to submit proposals to the committee, in particular, but not exclusively, along the following two lines. First, the ritual demonstration of competence, which will help analyze the available sources - old or new - on this procedure : duration, nature of the subject, material realization, conservation. It would be interesting to examine the basis for such a practice in Latin countries, and its absence in Anglo-Saxon countries. Then, the technical feat will be understood as a challenge, while examining the plurality of masterpiece practices and their meanings : challenges launched between communities or to oneself, technical feats, their visual or written representations, their effects on spectators or the public (procession, world’s fairs, etc.).

Pérou, Équateur, Colombie, Chili
Un an après les soulèvements dans les Andes péruviennes, cette journée d’études aura pour objectif de revenir sur les différentes modalités et représentations des mobilisations et de la violence politique dans la région andine. Il s’agira d’aborder depuis une perspective pluridisciplinaire et comparatiste le cas du Pérou, de l’Équateur, de la Colombie et du Chili à l’aune des sciences sociales, la littérature et les arts. Outre les tables rondes, la journée comptera avec une projection-débat de vidéos en langue quechua et une exposition de photos.

L’objectif principal de cette manifestation scientifique est de croiser les regards et les expériences sur l’importance et la richesse du patrimoine architectural de la Kabylie et de débattre ainsi de la question de son devenir. Il vise essentiellement à sensibiliser à la nécessité de sa patrimonialisation au sens de son appropriation effective et de sa valorisation en tant que réalité, à la fois tangible et intangible, à transmettre aux générations futures. Il mettra en lumière les enjeux qui sous-tendent cette patrimonialisation au prisme de l’identité locale et face au défi de la durabilité et de l’évolutivité de cet héritage.

By choosing to focus on South-North circulations, this seminar is dedicated to the deconstruction of the “British Empire” as a homogeneous category to write and think about the intellectual, artistic, and political histories of the people who circulate and inhabit this polity known as the Commonwealth of Nations in the post-Bandung era. Working from the assumption that committed artists, intellectuals and political activists from the Global South have networked and connected within this space, we seek to interrogate the counter-hegemonic nature of the knowledge, theories and artistic practices produced during the post-Bandung era. We thus call for the study of the circulation and transfers of political and cultural ideas but also the intellectual trajectories of individuals, collectives and institutions.

Sore losers in democracy: denial of defeat and post-electoral crises
“Nomopolis” journal
Trump’s reluctance to concede defeat in the 2020 US presidential election, his supporters’ assault on the Capitol on January 6, 2021, as well as the attack of former president Bolsonaro’s supporters on the federal government buildings in January 2023, all raise questions about the rejection of alternation, the political and legal contestation of electoral results and the different types of crises that may ensue. Through the notion of “sore loser”, this second issue of Nomopolis aims to examine the modalities and stakes of these sequences in which candidates, parties or voters break with the normal and peaceful functioning of liberal democracy.

From limits to margins. Periphery(s) in stories and imaginarie Latin American contemporaries

This number attempts to define what the margins and peripheries are today in the imaginaries, stories, human sciences and cultural fields of the Americas. If the twentieth century saw, in most countries of Latin America, as it was about defining a cultural norm (which or not took over from the colonial period, whether or not integrating elements of pre-Hispanic history), also appeared increasingly affirmed countercultures and peripheral cultures. With digitalization, which occurred at the beginning of our century, a strong acceleration of the movement was noted. It is then worth asking what a peripheral/marginal culture may be, as well as looking for a way to define it. Another primary issue is knowing how (and by whom) these currents can be represented. In a somewhat binary conception of social, geographic and creative space, one would obviously have to oppose the notions of normativity and centrality to the margins.

From the Bronze Age to the Islamic Period
The aim of the symposium is to study the overland and maritime routes of the Arabian Peninsula and the exchanges they made possible, through archaeology, history, philology, religion and life sciences. This topic will be addressed in the longue durée, from the Bronze Age to the Islamic period. The symposium will also examine the networks of exchanges with border regions such as the Indian subcontinent, the Horn of Africa and Egypt, as well as the empires of the Ancient Near East, and the Greek and Roman empires.

Ce numéro d’Ethnologie française valorisera les contributions reposant sur des enquêtes de terrain où la solitude est soit traitée comme une thématique centrale, soit dont les résultats révèlent en creux des situations ou des expériences de solitude. Elles pourront également s’attacher à décrire des pratiques solitaires où la solitude est requise ou convoquée. Les contributeur·rice·s pourront aussi la saisir de manière transversale en mobilisant un matériau issu de plusieurs terrains lorsque l’objet apparaît en filigrane des résultats ou de manière plus ou moins implicite dans l’ensemble de leurs travaux.

Acclimater le paysage. Observer, penser et agir face aux climats en changement
Revue « Projets de paysage » numéro 31
Ce numéro de la revue Projets de paysage se propose de publier un dossier thématique interrogeant la façon dont le paysage est aujourd’hui mobilisé (ou pourrait l’être dans le futur) pour répondre aux enjeux climatiques dans les territoires locaux. Les climats façonnent les paysages tout comme l’action des sociétés tient compte des conditions climatiques de chaque (mi)lieu. Ce numéro souhaite s’emparer de ce lien pour envisager des contributions montrant comment on observe, pense et agit avec le paysage face aux climats en changement. Il s’agit d’appréhender de quelle manière les sociétés convoquent le paysage pour examiner les complexes socio-écologiques locaux soumis aux changements climatiques et pour faire en sorte que les transformations qu’ils connaissent soient mieux saisies, représentées et prises en compte. L’objectif est d’ouvrir de nouvelles perspectives d’action, permettant d’atténuer les effets induits et de s’y adapter.
