« Turâb’26 » : Expériences de la matérialité de la construction en terre
Every handful of earth holds a story of "de-materiality," where the sensory philosophy of earth coexists with innovations and new technologies that push its technical limits in a desire to destigmatize it. Although durable and ecological, earth as a material faces cultural resistance tied to an image of precariousness, a perception fostered by modernity. Thus, in the context of alarming climate change, reinventing earthen construction has become urgent, if not necessary. This conference approaches research on earthen construction at the crossroads of poetics, engineering, and innovation. By highlighting earth architecture in Tunisia and around the world, it offers a transdisciplinary and resilient perspective on a universal material, putting its inextricably linked material and immaterial dimensions in tension.

Types versus standards. Vers de nouvelles composantes en design
Études historiques et critiques du type dans le contexte du design des transitions (1914-2024)
Ces études historiques et critiques s'intéressent au concept des Typen, un maître-mot allemand utilisé dès 1914 pour caractériser la particularité des productions en série, fruit d’une réflexion sur les complémentarités entre la création et la technique. En français comme en anglais, le terme a été le plus souvent traduit par « standards », alors que « Typen » revêt un enjeu social et industriel tout à fait différent. Sa relecture contribue ainsi à donner toute sa légitimité et son autonomie à la recherche en design. Ce séminaire de travail s’attache à exhumer les problèmes et les mystères des processus et produits associés au « Typisierung » en deux journées en croisant histoire et cultures du type, pratiques et théories de la typification.

History, landscape, architecture and enhancement of cultural heritage
Volume 31/2026 of Histoire des Alpes – Storia delle Alpi – Geschichte der Alpen wishes to dedicate its Dossier to the theme of monasteries and religious communities in the Alpine region. While the history of regular communities was largely investigated from the second half of the 19th century until the first years of the 20th century, in particular thanks to the impetus of members of the clergy who devoted themselves to collecting, transcribing and translating archives, as well as publishing monographs, there has been a revival of interest in this subject over the last few decades in the Alps and Pre-Alps, driven in particular by archaeologists, by the diversification of issues concerning the religious world and, locally, by the desire of the public authorities to broaden the range of the tourism offer by promoting local heritage.

Ce colloque souhaite engager une discussion autour d’une thématique singulière – le portrait – dans une perspective transhistorique, transdisciplinaire et transmédiale, ceci afin de réfléchir collectivement à sa définition et aux problématiques soulevées par son corpus aux origines séculaires. Il s’agira d’étudier les nombreuses théories et formes de la pratique portraitiste et d’en mesurer les enjeux épistémologiques, esthétiques, sociaux, politiques et médiatiques sur le temps long, sans contrainte temporelle ou géographique.

Edges of the sacred. Materializing thresholds, from Antiquity to the end of the Middle Ages

Art historians and archaeologists working on sacred monuments are not only interested in the architectural forms and techniques and the painted and/or sculpted decoration: they also try to reconstruct the ceremonies and circulations that took place around and inside the buildings they study. A sacred space is defined by a material or symbolic boundary that separates the building and its surroundings from profane space. This area, which belongs to the divinity, is bounded by a set of rules and customs that govern ritual practice, which is itself closely linked to space: gestures, sacrifices, prayers and paths take place in specific locations, the identification and function of which are often specified by architecture and decoration.

Questions de mots : écrire, dire et entendre la contestation du XVIe siècle à nos jours
La revue Tierce (Criham, sites de Poitiers et de Limoges) cherche pour son neuvième numéro à faire dialoguer les disciplines de l’histoire, de l’art, de la musicologie, de la littérature et de la sociologie autour d’une réflexion sur les mots. En s’inscrivant dans le courant des cultural studies, le dossier « Questions de mots : écrire, dire et entendre la contestation » invite les chercheur·euse·s en sciences humaines et arts à une réflexion interdisciplinaire sur les usages des mots, croisant l’histoire des mentalités avec celle des émotions, dans une temporalité élargie allant de la Renaissance à nos jours. Il a, entre autres, pour objectif de comprendre la construction et la portée culturelle, sociale, politique des mots, la manière dont ils sont véhiculés et appropriés par les individus ou les groupes dans des contextes contestataires, revendicatifs ou révolutionnaires.

Logiques urbaines et architecturales, matérielles et immatérielles, perspectives de protection et d’évolution (XIXe-XXIe siècle)
La Ville de Bordeaux, Bordeaux Métropole, l’École nationale supérieure d’architecture de Toulouse, le centre de recherche en histoire de l’art François Pariset et la Maison des sciences de l’homme d’Aquitaine organisent les 17 et 18 octobre prochains, deux journées d'étude consacrées aux patrimoines sportifs, matériels et immatériels. Elles ont pour objectifs d’explorer les logiques urbaines et architecturales qui conduisent à patrimonialiser les lieux et les pratiques sportives dans la période contemporaine (XIXe-XXe siècle), toutes aires géographiques confondues, en s’attachant surtout à la construction des récits et à la formation des symboles bâtis des sports, quotidiens ou spectaculaires.

L’objectif principal de l’atelier est de créer un lieu d’échange entre jeunes chercheur.euses des domaines de l’architecture, de l’urbanisme et du patrimoine et de l’histoire, plus particulièrement en histoire contemporaine. L’étude intensive et interdisciplinaire des bâtiments pris comme source doit permettre d’ouvrir de nouvelles pistes de recherche et d’acquérir des connaissances sur la période de l’Occupation. Pour cela, les bâtiments de l’influence française encore présents à Sarrebruck seront analysés et photographiés et leur valeur de témoignage et force d’expression seront communiquées par une représentation graphique à la fin de l’atelier.

Ordonner l’Église, ordonner les églises : lieux, environnements, réseaux (VIIIe-XIIe siècle)
Au-delà des monuments prestigieux qu’étaient et sont encore les cathédrales et les abbayes, l’espace sacré s’étendait aussi aux lieux contrôlés par ces institutions, églises, paroissiales ou non, prieurés et autres dépendances ; les modalités et les conséquences de ce contrôle offrent un terrain quasi infini d’investigations archéologiques et historiques. À l’occasion de la réouverture au public de la crypte de Saint-Bénigne de Dijon, après plusieurs années de restauration et de nouvelles fouilles archéologiques, ainsi que de la mise en œuvre du projet de restauration et de réaménagement de l’abbaye Saint-Germain d’Auxerre, il est apparu nécessaire de faire le point sur cette problématique et de l’élargir à d’autres espaces étudiés par les archéologues, les historiens et les historiens d’art en France et en Europe.

The “Professional Worlds” of Architectural Ornament: Actors and Practices from the 18th Century to the Present Day
This symposium aims to contribute to a better understanding of the "professional worlds" of architectural ornament, by fostering a dialogue between two dynamic fields of research that have hitherto rarely been connected: the history of ornament and the history of professions linked to architecture and construction. Resolutely positioned on the side of craftspeople and professional practices, the various contributions will focus on: the spectrum of ornamental professionals; the relationships between professions and the concrete organization of production chains; and finally, the circulation of people, techniques, and material elements. Covering a wide range of geographical and cultural areas, they will cover a broad contemporary period – from the 18th century to the 2010s.

Le chef d’œuvre dans l’art de bâtir du Moyen Âge à l’époque contemporaine
In the scope of the journal Ædificare, a call for abstracts is launched on the question of the “masterpiece in the art of building from the Middle Ages to the Comtemporary era”. The discussion will begin from theoretical and practical, multidisciplinary, national and international perspectives. All interested parties are invited to submit proposals to the committee, in particular, but not exclusively, along the following two lines. First, the ritual demonstration of competence, which will help analyze the available sources - old or new - on this procedure : duration, nature of the subject, material realization, conservation. It would be interesting to examine the basis for such a practice in Latin countries, and its absence in Anglo-Saxon countries. Then, the technical feat will be understood as a challenge, while examining the plurality of masterpiece practices and their meanings : challenges launched between communities or to oneself, technical feats, their visual or written representations, their effects on spectators or the public (procession, world’s fairs, etc.).

Contributions may cover a broad contemporary period (encompassing the 18th century and extending to the present day) marked, in particular, by the development of mass-produced ornaments and by frequent theoretical debates about the place of ornamentation. All cultural and geographical areas may be studied.

Histoire sociale et culturelle des matériaux de construction de l’antiquité à nos jours
La longue histoire des matériaux de construction a suivi diverses perspectives : enjeux architectoniques, disponibilité et approvisionnement, coûts, qualités esthétiques… Plus récemment, elle a aussi été l’occasion d’aborder l’architecture sous un angle différent en remettant en question la longue suprématie des matériaux lithiques au profit d’autres substances, souvent considérées comme plus anecdotiques, voire dépréciées, comme le métal, la terre crue et la brique, la paille, le bois. Cette journée d’étude invite à replacer dans leur contexte social et culturel les choix faits par les bâtisseurs et les regards portés par les usagers, les visiteurs et les hommes de l’art sur les matériaux de construction.

The Cistercian Residence proposed for the monastery of São Bento de Cástris aims first and foremost to reinvent in contemporary times the historical density of the Cistercian discourse, integrating the geography of this monastery in Évora into a wider geography of the Cistercian Order. Inspired by the questions of Cistercian History, Art, Heritage and Landscape, the Residence, governed by the daily rhythm of the Benedictine Rule, will focus on the experience of the monastery's spaces and on the debate of current issues related to monastic spaces and their future, focusing on the original character of the initiative.

História de Lisboa: espaços e sociabilidades
Numa parceria entre a Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa e o Instituto de História da Arte da Universidade Nova de Lisboa, pretende-se recuperar a tradição formativa em Estudos Olisiponenses, imprimindo-lhe, contudo, um espírito novo, insuflado pelo contributo conjugado de investigadores de gerações e formações diversificadas, cujos trabalhos permitem oferecer uma estrutura concetual apelativa e atualizada. Sob o título «Lisboa: espaços e sociabilidades», propõe-se a realização de catorze sessões divididas em dois núcleos, «Lisboa, cidade global» e «Novos estudos sobre Lisboa», com matrizes de análise que se estendem da arte e urbanismo à política e antropologia. Complementa o curso uma visita temática orientada por um especialista e remata-o a «Lisboa, crónica anedótica» de Leitão de Barros, a visualizar na Cinemateca Portuguesa.

Overcoming, connecting, conquering?
Infrastructures and architecture of the Alpine region: a transnational perspective
En raison de leur conformation géomorphologique et de leur condition climatique, les Alpes ont été, tout au long de l’histoire, un terrain qui a mis à l’épreuve la capacité technique à la fois des communautés locales tout comme des techniciens, des architectes, des ingénieurs. Ce numéro thématique de la revue Traverse vise à concevoir les Alpes en tant qu’espace transnational que les hommes et les femmes n’ont cessé de vouloir surmonter, d’exploiter, de conquérir et même de valoriser en créant de nouvelles infrastructures. L'accent est mis sur l'histoire des innovations technologiques face aux défis naturels et sur l’interaction diachronique de ces innovations avec la nature et la société. Même si ces réalisations ont connu une croissance inédite à partir des dernières décennies du XIXe siècle, les propositions d’articles concernant les périodes précédentes sont les bienvenues.

Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Christian Initiation from Late Antiquity to the Middle Ages
On the occasion of this meeting dedicated to baptism and baptisteries, we intend to highlight the spatialization of baptismal rituals and their evolution between Late Antiquity and the Middle Ages, by comparing different geographical areas within the boundaries of the Roman Empire and its neighbouring regions. Through the dialogue between written sources and archaeology, we would like to investigate whether baptismal practices could assert regional or confessional Christian identities.

Cahiers Thématiques journal no.20
Le laboratoire de recherche de l’École nationale supérieure d’architecture et de paysage de Lille (LACTH, laboratoire Conception – territoire – histoire - matérialité) publie annuellement les Cahiers thématiques. Le vingtième numéro, coordonné par le domaine « Histoire » dont la parution est prévue en 2021, sera consacré à la question des architectures en série et du patrimoine. Les mutations matérielles et techniques de la production de l’architecture depuis la Révolution industrielle imposent de nous réinterroger sur notre relation aux formes bâties. La construction en nombre sur un territoire donné ou dans un temps limité incite à la reproductibilité, modifiant le statut des édifices. De l’objet unique à la production en série, comment déterminer aujourd’hui les architectures à considérer comme représentatives de notre société ?
