  Marges, marginaux et marginalités au Moyen Âge

  Transgressions et expériences de la norme (Ve-XVe siècle)

  Mondes de l’« entre-deux », les marges inquiètent autant qu’elles fascinent. Ces espaces de transition, qu’ils soient pris dans leur dimension spatiale, sociale ou artistique sont en effet le lieu où s’opèrent la rupture avec la norme, le basculement vers un ailleurs dont les contours ne sont pas aisés à déterminer. Toujours relatives, les marges n’existent toutefois que dans leurs rapports vis-à-vis d’une norme, posant la question essentielle de savoir ce qui construit la normalité et conditionne les mécanismes de représentation du réel. Le Réseau des médiévistes belges de langue française (RMBLF) souhaite réunir les jeunes chercheur·euses en études médiévales autour de la question des « marges », afin d’engager une réflexion commune autour de l’expérience de la norme au Moyen Âge (V^e-XV^e siècle).

  The Stuff of Tradition: Materiality and Media in Folklore Studies

  In the forthcoming 11^th international conference of Young folklorists, we seek to examine the complex relationship of folklore studies with materiality by juxtaposing it with recent re-orientations to media and (re)mediation. The conference aims to explore various materialities inherent to our data and methodology – whether obvious or ambiguous – and rethink their position in our field. We invite scholars to discuss both academic and vernacular notions on the transmission of tradition and its social and material embeddedness. We also encourage methodological discussion on how folklore scholars are themselves bound by various (new) media and technologies of documentation, archiving, and presentation.

  Analysis of relics, hagiographic legends and Carolingian memories

  Around the body of the Apostle James the Greater in Toulouse

  Since the 14th century, the Basilica of Saint-Sernin in Toulouse has been proud to possess the entire body of James the Greater. After a first preparatory seminar on 11 March 2019 in Toulouse (Vraies et fausses reliques: un vrai faux problème), a workshop was held on 10 December 2021 (Les reliques toulousaines de Jacques le Majeur), focusing on the material aspects (examination of bones, reliquaries, and authentic items). In a final stage, the results of these analyses should be put into perspective during a meeting which would lead to the writing of a monograph bringing together all the studies carried out on the relics of Saint James in Toulouse.

  Le patrimoine funéraire religieux de la première guerre mondiale

  L’organisation de la journée d’étude proposée par l’association Le Souvenir français intervient dans un double contexte. Le colloque organisé les 24, 25 et 26 mai 2022 par l’association Paysages et sites de mémoire de la Grande Guerre porte une réflexion transnationale sur la patrimonialisation des différents espaces géographiques marqués par l’expérience combattante sur le front entre 1914 et 1918. Notre journée d’étude se veut un approfondissement, dans le champ de l’histoire et de l’anthropologie des religions, des questions soulevées durant ces trois journées de réflexion.

  Chaque année, l’association des étudiantes et étudiants des cycles supérieurs en sciences religieuses (AÉCSSR) de l’université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) organise un colloque « Anita Caron ». Ce colloque international annuel désire offrir cette année l’opportunité aux étudiant·es de cycles supérieurs issu·es de toutes les disciplines et s’intéressant au phénomène religieux de partager le fruit de leurs recherches tout en contribuant à entretenir les débats sur l’importance de l’étude du religieux pour une compréhension élargie des sociétés, en plus de se familiariser avec la communication scientifique.   Le colloque intitulé Comment nommer le religieux ? Enjeux confessionnels, politiques et savants discutera de la manière dont on nomme le religieux en ouvrant la comparaison et la réflexion aux différentes religions et à la manière dont les acteurs eux-mêmes se définissent et définissent « l'autre ». Il propose ainsi d'étudier la manière dont le religieux est substantivé à travers trois axes : la façon dont les actrices et les acteurs se présentent et s’identifient ; la manière dont les autres les désignent et enfin la façon dont les chercheuses et chercheurs nomment leurs sujets et objets de recherche.

  Les jubés et clôtures de chœur de l’époque gothique à la Renaissance (XIII-XVIe siècle) en France

  Actualités de la recherche et des chantiers

  Ces dernières années ont vu l’étude et la restauration de plusieurs ensembles remarquables de jubés et clôtures de chœur conservés en France : constat d’état et nettoyage de la clôture de chœur de la cathédrale d’Amiens (2015), étude et restauration de celle de la cathédrale de Chartres (2011-2021), restauration d’une partie du chœur clos de la cathédrale d’Albi (2012-2015) et étude de la polychromie des sculptures (2020-2021), étude et dessalement de la clôture de chœur de Rodez (2018-2022), etc. Ce colloque, organisé par l’association des conservateurs de monuments historiques, est l’occasion de présenter l’actualité des travaux de restauration et de la recherche portant sur les jubés et clôtures de chœur de l’époque gothique à la Renaissance (1200-1600).

  Discours et pouvoir dans et sur les religions

  Ce numéro thématique de Religiologiques cherche, dans un premier temps, à réfléchir aux discours générés par les religions et à la façon dont ceux-ci structurent le pouvoir et conditionnent les rapports de pouvoir en leur sein, tout en interrogeant les fondements mêmes de ces discours et les processus de légitimation sur lesquels ils s’appuient. Ce numéro veut également réfléchir aux discours sur les religions, d’un point de vue politique ou juridique, et les façons dont les sociétés entendent gérer le religieux. Il peut aussi être l’occasion de réfléchir aux façons dont les religions adaptent, ou non, leur discours, confrontés aux nouveaux impératifs sociaux, ainsi qu’à l’émergence de discours critiques des religions et les influences de ceux-ci sur les structures religieuses.

  Ce projet, qui prendra la forme de trois journées d’étude organisées alternativement à Montpellier (2022, 2024) et à Nanterre (2023), part d’un constat : dans un contexte où se développe puis domine l’imprimé, de nombreux monastères de religieuses continuent de produire des chroniques ou des histoires demeurées à l’état manuscrit, depuis la fin du XV^e siècle jusqu’à aujourd’hui. Ce sont ces textes que nous proposons d’interroger sur le temps long, en portant le regard sur leur matérialité, les méthodes historiennes mobilisées ainsi que les usages sociaux.

Papers can consider material representations of time and its measure, as well as the subtle representation of past, present and future in medieval literature.

  Complementarity, Competition and Hybridization of the Spoken and the Written Word (16th and 17th century Europe)

  The workshop will explore the complex relations between the spoken and the written word in 16th and 17th century Europe. Both modes of expression have been studied in a new light during the last years. But research on the interactions between the spoken and the written word is still at the beginning. It is a promising domain, linked to important questions about Early Modern history and its sources. How did the transitions between orality and writing (in both ways) work out in different situations? When the two modes were in competition, how were choices made and justified? When and where did the spoken word duplicate, complete, moderate, contradict or undermine the written word? When there was complementarity between the modes of expression, what mutual influences can be observed, mainly (but not only) from a formal point of view?

  The term “ritual” covers a wide field of medieval activities referring to repeated and often formal behaviour that combine cognitive processes with physical actions. Whether carried out in privacy or in public, medieval rituals invariably had a social function; they were performed for and in interaction with audiences, whose presence may have been tangible or superhuman. The performative aspect involved a shared experience of visible, audible and, in all, sensory practices that gave form to the rituals. The colloquium gathers together specialists from various fields to discuss the theory and practice of rituals in medieval culture.

  Training, educating, instructing in France, in the British Isles and in America in the 17th and 18th centuries

  These 2022 post-graduate study days set out to explore the broad range of the pedagogical theories and educative practices that were developed throughout the 17^th and 18^th centuries in the British Isles and in America. The three suggested semantic lines – training, educating, instructing – should allow for a cross-referencing of approaches on how knowledge was passed on from one generation to the next, from a teacher to a pupil or from a parent to a child. Though distinguishable from one another, the three terms stem from a same basis which establishes the relation between the learner and the instructor, but also between the learner and the object of his or her apprenticeship.

  On 10, 11 and 12 November 2022, the 5^th International Congress for Young Researchers in Middle Ages (ICYRMA) will take place at the University of Évora, Portugal. ICYRMA is destinated to students at master, doctoral and postdoctoral level and/or to those who have obtained their academic degrees in the last five years. It aims to be an interdisciplinary space for dissemination, discussion and contact among young researchers who study the Middle Ages from various perspectives: history, archeology, art history, literature, philosophy, philology, anthropology, ethnology, sociology, geography, methodology, among other areas. In this 5th ICYRMA, the theme will be “Time and temporality”.

  Situated at the crossroads of therapy, science and politics, the field of “contemporary spiritualities” challenges analytical frameworks as demonstrated by the debates around its designation itself (New Age, Self Religion, Western Esotericism, etc.) and the eclectic practices it covers, from neo-paganism to eco-spirituality, from neo-traditional movements to alternative medicine. This panel will be focused on the circulation of contemporary spiritual practices and on their interconnections through transnational movements. It will emphasize ethnographic studies and historical perspectives essential to the understanding of the global deployment of spiritual practices.
