This special issue aims to explore, interrogate and reflect on the ways in which women are understood, contextualised and represented in the text of the Bible that has developed, in various ways, a foundational significance for Western culture.

Perspectives on Religious Minorities in Contemporary Latin America and the Caribbean
This session aims to enrich and open new avenues of reflection on religious minorities in Latin America and the Caribbean and on the development of a national memory and culture. We are particularly interested in research based on empirical surveys (work on archives, ethnographies, analysis of statistical data, interviews) that seek to understand the links between the nation, national identity and minority religions, explore the relationship between majority religion and religious minorities (dialogues, conflicts, borrowings, etc.) or report on concrete aspects of the presence of these religious minorities in Latin American and Caribbean countries (rituals, practices, relationship to politics, etc.)

La littérature de science-fiction recourt fréquemment au référentiel des croyances et des pratiques religieuses, à leurs rôles dans les sociétés, à leurs relations avec les identités, à la façon dont elles codent les rapports au monde et aux autres. La science-fiction traite aussi fréquemment de questions théologiques. Cette journée d'étude s'intéressera à la place de la religion, sous toutes ses formes, du sacré et du questionnement théologique dans les œuvres de science-fiction.

Open Theology invites submissions for the topical issue “The Bible and Migration”, prepared in collaboration with the conference The Bible on the Move: Toward a Biblical Theology of Migration, held at Fuller Theological Seminary in January 2020. This special issue asks how cutting-edge biblical scholarship should inform conversation about and action relating to migration in the twenty-first century, bridging the gap between biblical studies, theology, and activism. Articles should examine how the biblical texts reflect diverse migrant experiences, as well as ways in which these texts reflect theologically on migration and appropriate responses to it among migrants and host communities. Articles may also critically interrogate the Bible’s use in arguments over migration and migrants’ reception by host communities.

Witchcraft and moral harassment : forms of insidious violence
A comparative study of witchcraft and bullying has never been attempted, although these two forms of insidious violence seem comparable. This workshop aims to show, by mobilizing the tools of clinical psychology and social sciences, how insidious violence develops as a system with real agents in certain contemporary societies (in Europe and outside Europe), but also in the form of a collective belief in the existence of essentially harmful characters (the “narcissistic pervert”). Witchcraft and harassment thus seem to be organized around a distribution of roles that could be compared: the culprit (sorcerers / stalkers), the experts (counter-sorcerers / psychological or legal experts), witnesses / accusers and the victims. Basically, there are many proven attempts at bewitchment and harassment, but also situations of suspicion of bewitchment or harassment, fueled by socially constructed representations. In other words, we start from the idea that insidious violence can be both a practice of actual aggression and a system of interpreting signs supported by a community.

La sociologie des religions française s’est structurée dans les années 1960 autour de concepts – la sécularisation, la pluralisation religieuse, l’individualisation des pratiques et croyances – qui accordent une place centrale à la notion de changement, en y associant des connotations positives (la « modernité » religieuse) ou négatives (le registre de la perte) et analysée à différents échelles (individuelle, organisationnelle etc.). Tout en tenant compte des apports de ces paradigmes, l’objectif du réseau thématique sera de s’éloigner des approches théoriques qui seraient spécifiques aux religieux en s’interrogeant sur le travail de sélection et de catégorisation à l’œuvre : comment définir ce qui est « religieux » ? Comment appréhender objectivement ou subjectivement le changement ?

The ERC MAP Seminar “The Names of the Gods! 5: Who named the gods? Utterers, addressers, ritual agents” pursues the investigation on the systems of naming of the divine. This year, it focuses on the human agents in the process of naming the divine, whether they are producers of a discourse on the deities, addressers in a communication with the deities, or even experts in charge of a ritual knowledge. What agency do men and women exercise in the production of a specific denomination of the divine? How can we question their choices, their anchoring in a tradition or their innovation strategies?

L’ambition du séminaire est de permettre une collaboration entre jeunes chercheur-e-s qui travaillent, depuis des disciplines différentes, sur un objet singulier : les morts et ce qu’il en reste - cadavres, fantômes, restes, traces, etc. La question que nous nous poserons est celle de la définition, par différents acteurs, de ce qu’il reste d’un individu après sa mort. Les participant-e-s seront invité-e-s à aborder cette question à partir de leurs recherches respectives et en s’attachant à expliciter leurs positionnements théoriques et méthodologiques.

Gnwt (Genout) est une revue annuelle publiée au mois de septembre. Elle est éditée par le Réseau des enseignants-chercheurs en égyptologie et civilisations d’Afrique noire (RECECAN). Elle publie les articles des domaines des langues, des lettres, des sciences de l’homme et de la société, qui portent de préférence sur l’histoire ancienne de l’Afrique noire. Une rubrique varia peut cependant être consacrée à la diffusion des articles inédits en rapport avec d’autres périodes de l’histoire africaine. Tous ces savoirs doivent néanmoins avoir pour grille de lecture et fil conducteur les sources essentiellement endogènes de première main pouvant contribuer à une meilleure lecture et compréhension du passé séculaire de l’Afrique noire.

Rebel diplomacies. Huguenots, malcontents and agitators on the international scene (1562-1629)
Durant les guerres de religion, les huguenots, les malcontents et les ligueurs ont maintes fois appelé à leur secours des puissances étrangères, agissant sur une scène diplomatique ordinairement réservée aux seuls ambassadeurs officiels. Si les aspects internationaux des guerres de religion ont fait l’objet de recherches récentes, on s’est encore peu interrogé sur les enjeux politiques, symboliques, juridiques et doctrinaux du déploiement à travers l’Europe de démarches diplomatiques initiées par des pouvoirs rebelles. En étudiant les pratiques de négociation d’acteurs non-étatiques et perçus comme rebelles, cette journée d’études ambitionne donc d’ouvrir de nouvelles pistes pour l’histoire des relations internationales, mais aussi pour l’histoire des révoltes.
