Call for papers - Representation
This conference will focus on the links that can be observed between gender and memory in textual and iconographic sources. This conference belongs to a cycle created by the Structure Fédératrice de Recherche ALLHiS, and as such, will focus more specifically on the analysis of the sources used by researchers. This conference aims at questioning the ways in which memory and gender are represented, whether it be in written sources (manuscripts, literary or legal texts…), iconographic sources (photos, statues, paintings…) or immaterial sources (ethnographic data). The aim of such a study is to welcome works based on the study of as many different sources as possible, which will enable researchers to construct an interdisciplinary overview of these sources that aims at being diverse rather than exhaustive.

Les rencontres Dialectiques pyrénéennes : espaces esthétiques, terrains scientifiques. Contrastes et mélanges en hommage à Georges Laplace se tiendront à Arudy (Pyrénées-atlantiques) du 19 au 21 septembre 2024. Les communications se déclineront en quatre dialectiques, constituant autant de thèmes reflétant les intérêts et l’itinéraire scientifique de l’archéologue Georges Laplace (1918-2004) : les tons et tonalités du chant, les lieux pyrénéens et montagnards, les savoirs scientifiques et dissidents et les transmissions techniques, anciennes ou actuelles.

Ce colloque propose de s’intéresser aux modalités informelles de regroupements des professionnel·les du film (liens familiaux ou amicaux, réseaux de solidarité, associations professionnelles ou de loisir, militantisme politique…), et au rôle qu’ils jouent dans la production et la circulation des films. En quoi les marges des espaces professionnels influencent-t-elles la production ? Comment documenter et mesurer l’impact des échanges qui se font en retrait des plateaux et des studios ? Peut-on faire l’histoire d’un film, ou plus largement d’une production, à partir d’autres lieux que le studio ? Il ne s’agit donc pas de se pencher sur les modes de production alternatifs, mais plutôt sur les liens qui opèrent entre diverses formes de regroupements et l’industrie du cinéma.

Edges of the sacred. Materializing thresholds, from Antiquity to the end of the Middle Ages

Art historians and archaeologists working on sacred monuments are not only interested in the architectural forms and techniques and the painted and/or sculpted decoration: they also try to reconstruct the ceremonies and circulations that took place around and inside the buildings they study. A sacred space is defined by a material or symbolic boundary that separates the building and its surroundings from profane space. This area, which belongs to the divinity, is bounded by a set of rules and customs that govern ritual practice, which is itself closely linked to space: gestures, sacrifices, prayers and paths take place in specific locations, the identification and function of which are often specified by architecture and decoration.

Agentivité, usages, représentations et imaginaires du liquide dans l’art du XXe siècle à nos jours
Le laboratoire HAR (Histoire des arts et des représentations, Université de Nanterre) et le LIRA (Laboratoire international de recherche en art, Sorbonne Nouvelle) organisent un colloque sur deux journées consécutives pour interroger collectivement la notion de liquide dans le domaine des arts au cours des XXe et XXIe siècles. Il s’agira d’étudier la façon dont le liquide a été ou est impliqué dans l’œuvre d’art, que ce soit pour contribuer à sa réalisation, sa dimension matérielle, formelle ou thématique, ainsi que son impact sur les imaginaires lorsqu’il est employé comme un symbole de la pensée, du social ou du politique. Cet appel est ouvert aux chercheur·euse·sses dont les réflexions devront relever aussi bien de l’esthétique que de l’histoire de l’art, mais aussi aux artistes-auteur·ice·s dont les œuvres mettent en jeu la notion de liquide. Toutes les expressions artistiques dans divers médiums, autant visuels, sonores que littéraires sont les bienvenues.

La revue Éducation permanente lance un appel à articles pour un numéro dédié aux publics en formation. Cette thématique vise à explorer les démarches pédagogiques et leur application liées à la diversité des publics en formation. Nous nous intéressons particulièrement aux publics spécifiques tels que les jeunes, les seniors, les personnes en situation de chômage, en reconversion professionnelle, et ceux présentant des situations de vulnérabilité (handicap, illettrisme, allophone, parent isolé…).

Genesis of professions and language learning: 16th – first half 19th c.
The early modern period saw the emergence of a number of professional groups in Europe that both shared characteristics with modern professions and showed distinct early-modern features. A key aspect of this process was the introduction of specialized education, which often included language learning. This was particularly true for occupations where proficiency in specific languages was essential, such as diplomats, diplomatic translators, secretaries, scribes, scholars, and clerics. Moreover, due to the intensification of transnational contacts and geographical mobility among specialists as well as the circulation of printed books, language proficiency became an integral part of the education for many other professional groups, such as military officers, engineers, and artists. The objective of the workshop is to contribute to our understanding of the roles played by both state and private actors in the development of linguistic training for early modern professional groups and to assess differences in the emerging professionalisation policies across Europe.

Breaking New Grounds: Democratising Gardens and Gardening in Great Britain, 19th-20th centuries
This conference stems from a reflection on the social and political dimensions of gardens and gardening in Great Britain ranging from the Victorian and Edwardian eras to the post-war period. Pondering on “People’s Gardens,” Vita Sackville-West claimed that “we have been called a nation of shopkeepers; we might with equal justice be called a nation of gardeners” (Sackville-West 1939). Her assertion insists on a sense of community, portraying gardening as an inclusive affair spreading across the country to amateurs along professionals who undertook training in botany and horticulture. Yet, such inclusivity needs to be qualified and addressed, taking into consideration class and gender: how was gardening dependent on class in Britain in the 19th and 20th centuries? How did class condition gardening practices? How did men and women’s experiences of gardening or access to gardens differ?

L’ampleur des références ne doit pas nous surprendre : comprendre le rapport que nous avons aujourd’hui à nous-mêmes et à notre désir demande de s’interroger sur les obligations de vérité que le christianisme a instituées en Occident, à travers un certain gouvernement des âmes. Réseau « Humanisme juridique »
Composante essentielle du renouveau intellectuel européen, le courant dit « humanisme juridique » (it. Umanesimo giuridico, angl. Legal Humanism, all. humanistische Jurisprudenz), particulièrement fécond aux XVe et XVIe siècles, se définit par une approche des textes hérités du droit romain qui s’oppose et en même temps complète les traditions médiévales de la glose et du commentaire. Des chercheurs travaillant sur l’humanisme juridique ont décidé de créer un groupe de travail qui les rassemble. Il s’agit de faciliter la convergence, l’échange et la mise en commun de ressources entre les spécialistes partenaires, qui ressentent le besoin d’approfondir leurs connaissances de façon complémentaire et souhaitent la mise en place d’une action commune et coordonnée dans le domaine de l’humanisme juridique. En 2025, le thème du séminaire sera « Humanisme juridique et utopie ».

Politics of demarcation and the radical right in post-war Europe
Discrimination – in its literal sense of drawing distinctions – is at the core of right-wing politics. The demarcation of people along imagined and uneven, hierarchical lines may be its key feature, yet one particular demarcation has so far escaped scholarly attention: The inner right’s self-definition, not as a nation, race, or Volk, but as a political movement and a coherent political thought, and its answer to the question of who is part of it and who is not. This process, though largely overlooked, can be seen as a particularly fraught one – at least for the right-wing movements of post-war Europe, which were not only faced with the tasks of shedding the devastating legacy of fascism, rearranging ideological fragments, and creating new self-attributions, agendas, and alliances. They also did so under the watchful eye of post-war societies and institutional actors, who themselves had strong motivations for defining what is (radically) right.

Écritures du travail : pour une approche comparatiste (1875 - 1975)
Depuis la rationalisation du travail, accentuée au XIXe siècle par l’industrialisation, de nombreuses sociétés humaines sont majoritairement composées d’une classe laborieuse, paysanne, ouvrière et employée, faisant du travail un sensible partagé, un dénominateur permettant une expérience commune par-delà les frontières nationales et allant jusqu’à définir l’identité d’un individu. Pourtant, un silence étrange enveloppe le sujet du travail en littérature, sujet qui, selon l’expression de M. Denning, « résiste[rait] à la représentation ». Mais n’est-ce pas plutôt le champ littéraire qui résiste au travail que le travail qui résiste à la littérature ? Car, pour un sujet qui « résiste à la représentation », cette dernière a pourtant été éclectique, foisonnante et diverse.Ce colloque propose des journées de réflexion sur les écritures du travail dans une perspective comparatiste, internationale et transdisciplinaire de 1875 à 1975.

Communication, Information, Politics and Culture in the U.S.
Médiamerica is a seminar on American news media organized by researchers working in France. Its aim is to cultivate research on the links between communication, politics, culture, and the processes by which information is produced, circulated, and given form, focusing on the North American context. Médiamerica brings together researchers with varied backgrounds to explore these issues from both historical and contemporary perspectives. The seminar offers a space for scholarly reflection and debate, to consider emergent phenomena in news and communication, as well as the ways in which the academic community on both sides of the Atlantic conceptualize such phenomena. This initiative seeks to build bridges between anglophone studies and communication studies, encouraging dialogue between different methodological approaches and benefiting from an intercultural perspective.

Du Moyen Âge à la fin du XIXe siècle, le château est un microcosme où l’ensemble des fonctions de pouvoir est associé à la vie seigneuriale dans toutes ses dimensions : économique, sociale, familiale, cérémonielle, festive. Un monde très hiérarchisé et une cascade de dépendances consenties ou imposées, de droits et de devoirs, de privilèges, d’honneurs, de corvées, de contraintes, voire d’humiliations et de violences.

Séminaire scientifique interdisciplinaire EXPAIRs 2024-25
En France, plusieurs traditions intellectuelles se sont intéressées aux productions des personnes vivant des expériences en lien avec la maladie chronique, le handicap, des troubles de santé mentale, la vie à la rue, des addictions. Suivant les périodes historiques et les perspectives analytiques, ces productions ont été qualifiées de croyances, de représentations sociales, de théories profanes, etc. Aujourd’hui, le concept de savoir expérientiel fiat florès, sans pour autant faire consensus sur son sens.
