  Peripheries, Minorities and Taboos in the Films by Marcel Łoziński, Pál Schiffer and Želimir Žilnik

  The conference aims to study films directed by three acclaimed Central European and Balkanic documentary filmmakers who showed, through their filmic poetics, a special interest towards disqualified social groups. In parallel to the conference, multiple events will be held online: screenings, debates, masterclasses with Marcel Łoziński and Želimir Žilnik, tribute to Pál Schiffer, etc.

  Avec le développement des outils informatiques, les corpus documentaires d’édition de sources et de bases de données en histoire, histoire de l’art, archéologie ou littérature se sont multipliés. La question de l’intérêt de ces données numériques est double : d’une part celle de la collecte et de la diffusion des fonds et d’autre part celle de leur exploitation. Le premier volet qui vise à la constitution d’instruments de recherche facilitant l’accès à une documentation ample et dispersée est aujourd’hui le plus avancé autour de l’élaboration de corpus (natifs ou recomposés, numérisation, encodage) et de leur diffusion (SGBD, sites, bibliothèques numériques…).

  Time at the Turn of the Twentieth Century in American-British Philosophy

  Around the turn of the twentieth century, time became a major focus of American-British philosophy. Against a broadly Kantian-Hegelian backdrop, philosophers began developing new questions and theories about time. Shadworth Hodgson argued humans perceive a ‘specious present’, a short duration rather than an infinitesimally small one; this view was further developed by Mary Calkins and William James. J. M. E. McTaggart advanced a new argument for the unreality of time. A. N. Whitehead made time the foundation of his process philosophy. This event brings together philosophers from Europe and North America exploring this period that was to become defining for the contours of twentieth-century English-speaking philosophy of time. The event will deliberately be scheduled to be compatible with European and North American time zones.

  L’histoire des religions abrahamiques est marquée par des temps forts et des temps faibles de l’espérance. La vitalité religieuse tient-elle avant tout à la puissance d’une espérance entretenue ? Comment l’Espérance a-t-elle pu être utilisée tantôt à la manière d’un instrument de gouvernance, tantôt comme un ferment de révolte ? L’Espérance peut-elle entretenir des illusions ? Comment s’opère alors la relation entre promesses scripturaires et conceptions des temps derniers ? Et quelle place occupe le croyant dans la nécessaire tension entre les deux ? Comment peut-on classer les différentes manifestations de l’espérance religieuse ? Toute espérance relève-t-elle d’un de ces quatre régimes : restauration / compensation / réparation / purification ?

  Sharing Viewpoints on Artists' Visual Culture and the Creative Process from the Middle Ages to the Present Day

  Différents des carnets de voyages, les carnets de notes, portfolio ou cahiers de références, dans lesquels sont dessinés toutes sortes d’ « objets » ou collés des documents de natures variées (dessins, gravures, coupures issues de diverses publications, photographies…), sont, à l’évidence, révélateurs de la démarche des artistes qui ont rassemblé là des images qui les ont séduits et dont ils souhaitent conserver la trace à des fins documentaires. L’objectif du colloque n’est pas de dresser un simple inventaire des carnets de références qui existent, mais bien plutôt d’analyser leur mode de conception ainsi que l’usage qui a pu en être fait par les artistes eux-mêmes. Pour les époques les plus anciennes, pour lesquelles les archives manquent, peut-être sera-t-il possible d’envisager la reconstitution virtuelle de probables tels carnets – ou corpus de références – au regard de la production personnelle d’un artiste.

  Au cours de la première journée du laboratoire junior FIGÉE, consacrée à la définition des différentes acceptions du terme « génie » dans les discours savants et théoriques des XVII^e et XVIII^e siècles, est apparue comme une nécessité l’approche du « génie » au prisme du genre. En effet, si rien ne permet a priori d’affirmer que le génie soit exclusivement masculin, il convient de remarquer dans les textes de l’époque une écrasante majorité d’occurrences décrivant des hommes glorifiés pour leur perception du « génie » poétique de la langue ou de considérations sur le génie de telle ou telle profession exclusivement masculine.

  The enigma of the common

  International Philosophy College seminar

  Le Collège international de philosophie organise ce semestre un séminaire sur l’énigme du commun, à la croisée de la philosophie, des arts et de la littérature. Nous travaillerons cette énigme du commun, étrangère à la philosophie socio-politique, à partir de recherches, en littérature (Perec, Ponge) et en peinture (Hammershoi, les impressionnistes), qui la méditent depuis « ce qu’il y a de plus difficile à découvrir » (Blanchot) : le quotidien. Ces recherches singulières invitent à questionner les espaces et les objets du commun – du collectif au quotidien – sans les soumettre au primat de l’humain ou du vital. Comment donc penser le milieu collectif – ni ordinaire, ni événementiel – que cet art du quotidien donne à questionner ?

  Water Medicine

  Medical uses of mineral waters (1300-1850)

  The journal Histoire, médecine et santé is launching a call for proposals for a thematic issue devoted to the ‘water medicine’ before the rise of 19^th century hydrotherapy. We would like to solicit original research focusing on the therapeutic uses of mineral waters in a transhistorical perspective. Proposals can be sent, for example, on the administrative management of mineral waters and their therapeutics, on the geographical issues related to water medicine, their localisation and their hierarchy. The place of mineral waters in a medical market could also be studied as well as their integration to economies of knowledge. Finally, mineral waters are a formidable starting point to think about environmental medicine. The calendar of this call aims at allowing the integration of emerging projects and the dialogue between the contributors. Proposals must be sent by May 21, 2021. Papers will be submitted in January 2022.

  La journée d'étude s'inscrit dans deux projets scientifiques : le premier annuellement à Orléans pour valoriser la recherche en histoire du droit médiéval et le second en partenariat avec d'autres institutions autour de la théologie comme matrice du discours juridique. Il s'agit là d'étudier en lien entre elles la pénitence, notamment au regard des institutions (pénitencerie apostolique, pénitenciers diocésains) et la concomitante « révolution de l'inquisitoire », c'est-à-dire l'apparition d'une nouvelle procédure d'enquête confiée à un juge au service d'une autorité publique en cours d'affirmation. Un nouveau paradigme de vérité se met en place au tournant des XII^e et XIII^e siècles visant à déterminer à la fois la matérialité des faits en cause et les dispositions subjectives de l'individu poursuivi.

The Research in Medieval Studies (RiMS) is conceived of as an ongoing series of yearly meetings whose aim is to bring scholars of different academic and geographical backgrounds together to open, or otherwise continue and direct, historiographical debate on key issues in medieval studies, while helping to establish outstanding research that is both innovative and comparative.

  This issue of FLLTR is devoted to the relationship between the workplace and languages. The terms “working language” and “language at work” cover different realities. The first is a language commonly used in a professional context. The second is used to carry out certain tasks such as writing a report, a technical note or an article. This raises the problem of upstream training. In higher education in particular, language learning and acquisition are key aspects of student training. There is also the problem of the predominance of English. How much emphasis should be given to other languages in training in order to stimulate reflection on the interface between companies and training?
