  Le Déluge et ses représentations en Europe entre optimum climatique médiéval et petit âge glaciaire européen (XI-XVIe siècles)

  Autour du XIV^e siècle, l’optimum climatique médiéval laisse la place au petit âge glaciaire européen. Les inondations et autres phénomènes climatiques se multiplient. En parallèle, le regard porté sur ces inondations semble engendrer de nouvelles représentations mentales et figurées de l’épisode biblique du Déluge, désormais perçu comme un désastre. Dans quelle mesure l’observation répétée de phénomènes météorologiques diluviens a-t-elle pu modifier la perception par l’homme de son environnement et impacter sa lecture du récit biblique du Déluge ? Ces deux journées ambitionnent de faire dialoguer l’histoire du climat et de l’environnement avec l’histoire des images.

  Nouvelles perspectives sur la représentation du monde naturel

  Le colloque réunira des communications qui seront structurées tout particulièrement sur : le « sentiment » ou la « perception de la nature » de l’Antiquité à la Renaissance. Il conviendra alors de renouveler notre compréhension sur les relations entre l’homme et la nature à partir de l’examen des vestiges archéologiques, des textes, de l’iconographie. Il pourra s’agir à la fois d’examiner comment la nature était introduite, dès l’Antiquité, au sein des résidences privées (peintures, mosaïques, aménagements topographiques…) et publiques (palais, lieux de culte …) ou encore ce que peut signifier l’attrait pour le paysage, qui repose très souvent sur sa domination et son contrôle, pour la constitution de l’individu et des préoccupations écologiques.

  Écopoétique de la vie périurbaine au cinéma

  Cette journée d’étude s’intéressera à la manière dont le cinéma éclaire les modes d’habitation des territoires situés entre la ville et la campagne et les logiques écologiques qui les traversent. Bien que le cinéma de fiction français soit privilégié, notamment à travers l’étude des films de Bertrand Bonello, d’Alain Guiraudie ou de Rabah Ameur-Zaïmeche, il s’agira aussi d’explorer d’autres aires culturelles tels que les paysages dévastés du Japon. Les formes de représentation des cités, des banlieues et des modes de vie pavillonnaire seront également explorées dans le cinéma expérimental et le cinéma muet grâce à l’invitation de programmateurs et de conservateurs (CNC, Cinéma du Réel).

  EARTH 16-18 Symposium

  This two-day academic symposium on ecology and race from the 16^th to the 18^th century will apply both ecocriticism and race theory that period. We hope to historicize the interconnectedness of human beings and the natural world in the early modern and modern age before looking at the impact and repercussions of early modern racial and ecological theories in our contemporary world in an “Ecology and Race Campus” on the 5th of July 2024, the 3rd day of activities.

  À l’heure où s’instituent les « humanités environnementales », ce colloque invite à un renouvellement écopoétique des études consacrées à la foisonnante poésie verte de la Renaissance : interroger les formes poétiques qui rendent visibles le monde naturel et ses interactions avec les humains. En faisant le choix d’associer des approches formelles et des approches écocritiques, nous souhaitons comprendre autrement, de manière plus complète peut-être, les représentations poétiques de la nature de la seconde moitié du XVI^e siècle.

  The court escapes the city.The countryside as political asset from the Middle Ages to the early modern period

  The idea of heading off to the countryside is associated nowadays with a wish to get away from a stressful, noisy, and at times oppressive and foul-smelling urban environment, to rest in peace and quiet, in healthy surroundings, in close contact with the bounties of the natural world and animals in their “natural” habitat. Far from any anachronistic intent, applying this expression to court studies is a call to scholars to adopt interdisciplinary approaches to examine the many ways in which aristocratic circles related to and interacted with their rural environment.

  Leonardo and Antiquity

  Conference at Hadrian's Villa

  To mark the five hundredth anniversary of Leonardo da Vinci’s death, the “Istituto Autonomo Villa Adriana e Villa d’Este - Villae” (Tivoli, Rome) is organizing a conference with the theme of: “Leonardo and Antiquity”, at Hadrian’s Villa. At the dawn of the 16th century, Leonardo da Vinci visited Villa Adriana, then known as “old Tivoli”. The conference in preparation intends to explore ways in which this journey influenced Leonardo's genius, also in the context of the time period and work of Leonardo's contemporaries and/or disciples. In the company of internationally recognized keynote speakers, the conference welcomes the participation of both Italian and foreign researchers and scholars who answer this call for papers, as a major focus of the conference will be to place Leonardo's trip to Tivoli within a broader cultural context. The deadline for the paper proposals is fixed at January 25th, 2019.
