ESA Research Network 28 - Society and Sport
The aim of this midterm conference is to bring scholars, researchers, educators, students, professionals, and other groups interested in sports and physical activity to propose their works. The focus of this midterm conference lays in the challenges that sociology of sports and physical activity have to face to understand these new complex scenarios, the main issues we had to face, the successes, the criticalities and the lessons learned, the new horizons of our understandings of the social and cultural landscapes.

Academic Freedom in a Global Context: Challenges and Perspectives
Transtext(e)s Transcultures: Journal of Global Cultural Studies
Academic freedom here is understood as the freedom to produce and share knowledge free from political, economic, or social hindrance so as to shed light on complex situations or issues. Academic freedom refers specifically to members of research and education institutions who seek to create knowledge “for its own sake” (Butler, 2017), rather than for industrial or commercial interests. Therefore, it is distinct from freedom of speech or other basic human rights as it is not an inherent entitlement of each human being, but rather a freedom attached to a specific community of people whose duty is to further develop knowledge in several areas. In that sense, academic freedom has a collective dimension but is exercised by a “community of the competent” (Haskell, 1996) who ensure that science is not politicised. This special issue of Transtext(es) Transcultures seeks to document and analyse the alarming rise in, and the diversification of, threats to academic freedom in the twenty-first century across the globe.

LGBTQIA+ sexualities: subjectivities, movements, languages
LGBTQIA+ studies for contemporary history, having produced a vast amount of researches, are still questioning history and historiography: how can LGBTQIA+ history be written? Does it merely overlap with the history of LGBTQIA+ subjectivities or does it exceed the boundaries of the LGBTQIA+ community? Does it challenge the historical imagination in terms of sources, archives, political and disciplinary boundaries, gender categories? Diacronie. Studi di Storia Contemporanea is looking for contributions aimed at investigating these issues.

As part of Initiative 3 of the Social Change Workshop Programme, F3E coordinate a collective book by questioning the meaning, role, and impacts of the inclusion of the men and women who are actors in the process of change. In change-oriented approaches and in an intersectional gender perspective, this concept of inclusion is very important. This is an introspective book that calls on contributions from outside of F3E to take a detached look at the recent evolution of the inclusion of the men and women who are actors in solidarity actions.

Disguise, dressing-up and transformations
Alors que notre travail en tant que chercheur·se·s est de classer, il s’agira ici d’étudier des cas de l’entre-deux au Moyen Âge : on se penchera sur la porosité entre différents groupes établis et les transformations, extérieures et intérieures, que cela implique. Il pourra s'agir de la transition d'une espèce à l'autre, d'un genre à l'autre, d'une espèce ou encore d'une ethnie à l'autre. Cette transformation de l'extérieur pourra notamment (mais pas seulement) passer par le déguisement ; quand la transformation est un passage d'un genre à l'autre, on parle souvent de « travestissement ». On prendra garde à ne pas considérer les trois termes « déguisements, « travestissements », « transformations » comme des équivalents : loin de les envisager comme synonymes, nous invitons à penser la relation extérieur/intérieur d'un·e individu·e de manière dynamique. Car modifier son aspect extérieur peut aussi permettre de révéler son intériorité réelle au monde, d'attester d'une transformation intime, ou d'accompagner cette transformation identitaire.

Femicide in France in the 19th century: social-history, key issues and representations
Ce colloque visera à étudier l’évolution du féminicide, de ses représentations et de leurs variations, sur la période du long XIXe siècle (1789-1914), de la Révolution française, où se met en place un nouveau système juridique, à la veille de la Grande Guerre, laquelle reconfigure les relations genrées et fait émerger un nouveau rapport à la violence. Il paraît aujourd'hui essentiel d'interroger les constructions du XIXe siècle pour saisir l'ancrage historique des mécanismes à l'œuvre dans notre rapport aux féminicides. Qu'est ce qui au XIXe siècle empêche la conceptualisation du féminicide comme crime spécifique ? Pourquoi avons-nous encore tant de réticences à catégoriser les meurtres de femmes au motif du sexe et du genre ? Puisque chaque pays a ses spécificités juridiques et culturelles, nous limiterons notre étude à la France.

Questioning the Crime of Witchcraft
Definitions, Receptions and Realities (14th-16th Centuries)
In the last decades, the multiplications of works in the field of Witchcraft Studies made it possible to profoundly renew the approaches and the study designs of the repression of witchcraft in the late Middle Ages and in the beginning of the Early Modern Era. Consequently, research has substantially specified the methods and configurations (ideological, political and doctrinal) that contribute to the genesis of the “witch-hunt”. Research also uncovered that the repression of witchcraft could take a number of different forms depending on the contexts, the spaces studied, the sources and the aims they seem to pursue. It underlines the extreme plasticity of the accusation of witchcraft and the categories of such a crime. Hence, the conference aims to focus the discussions on three main areas: the definition of the crime of witchcraft, its different receptions and the question of its reality.

L’objectif de ces journées est de faire dialoguer sociologie de la sexualité et sociologie de la socialisation. Faire dialoguer ces deux champs de la sociologie revêt des enjeux importants : dénaturaliser la sexualité et mettre au jour ses déterminants sociaux. En matière de sexualité, les représentations naturalisantes, nourries par la psychologie évolutionniste et la psychanalyse, sont légion : les hommes auraient « par nature » des besoins sexuels plus importants que les femmes ; l’hétérosexualité serait « plus naturelle » que l’homosexualité, car « résultat » de l’évolution des espèces. Plus encore, il s’agira au fil de ces journées de montrer comment et combien, les pratiques, mais aussi les représentations de la sexualité sont socialement déterminées. Contre l’idée que la sexualité constituerait une « île enchantée » (Bourdieu, 1998), c’est-à-dire un espace de liberté individuelle échappant aux rapports de domination, travailler sur la socialisation sexuelle permettra de mettre au jour les contraintes sociales qui orientent ce domaine de pratiques et les rapports sociaux qui la traversent.

Gender and semiotic categories in post-colonial Africa
L'appel à contribution du numéro 7 de la revue ABA (lettres et sciences sociales) porte sur la question du genre en Afrique contemporaine. Il ne s'agit plus seulement de réduire la problématique du genre à la catégorisation sexuelle et à ses enjeux culturels. Ce numéro thématique voudrait explorer toutes les formes de catégorisation des productions sémiologiques et sociales en Afrique contemporaine. Il prétend observer les transformations, les transgressions ou les réinventions venues d'Afrique des systèmes d'organisation modernes des productions littéraires, artistiques, musicales; des systèmes d'organisation sociale en genres sexuels. Le genre est-il une catégorisation coloniale et eurocentrée des objets sociaux ? Quelles appropriations africaines des genres au contact du monde moderne ?

Maya Jribi a laissé une empreinte dans l’histoire de notre chère Tunisie qu'il est de notre devoir de garder rayonnante pour encore longtemps. Cette année Sawa-Med Tunisie souhaite la pérennisation du souvenir de Maya Jribi, en lui rendant hommage à l’occasion de la date de son anniversaire, par l’organisation de la trosième édition de ce colloque.

Trans Identities in the French media
Abstracts are welcome for an edited volume that will address the question of the representations of trans identities in the French media. This volume aims more specifically at observing how trans identities have been portrayed in the past decades (from the 1990s’ to the present time). Possible topics include (but are not limited to)(a) the evolution of the representation of trans identities in news coverage, (b) transgender characters in films and series, (c) pitfalls and biases regarding the way trans identities are portrayed in the French media, and/or (d) the analysis of a specific body of work.

Intersectional Challenges in Afroeuropean Communities
8th Biennial Afroeuropeans Network Conference
The conference aims to consider how Afroeuropean communities are shaped by the intersections of ‘race’ and ethnicity with other markers of identification such as gender, class, sexuality, ability, age, citizenship status, language… Informed by intersectional thinking and its rejection of unidimensional perspectives in activism, policy and research, the conference explores how diverse processes of privileging and discrimination interact, making for complex and dynamic experiences of what it means to be Afroeuropean. It acknowledges that the racial and ethnic alterity of Afroeuropeans intersects with other identities (e.g. male, female, queer, working class, religious, disabled, aged…) and specifically seeks to examine to what extent these intersections create new alignments and opportunities.

La revue Annales de l’Université de Craiova (Roumanie) propose pour 2020 le thème de la communication et de l'interaction éducatives dans les environnements en ligne. Quel style de communication convient le mieux au contexte numérique afin de développer des attitudes et des comportements souhaitables, de valoriser les expériences d’action cognitive des étudiants ? Quels sont les aspects et les conditions qui peuvent rationaliser et optimiser le processus de communication en ligne ? Quel est le rôle du climat dans la mobilisation ou la démobilisation des interlocuteurs, dans la prévention et la gestion du stress lors de la communication ? Dans quelle mesure la communication empathique peut-elle influencer la motivation des étudiants à apprendre ?

Images, discourse and migrants in the Mediterranean
Le programme de recherche « Images, discours et mobilités en Méditerranée » (IDeM2, 2020-2022) comprend une conférence inaugurale le 15 janvier 2021 à l’IUT de Troyes ainsi qu’un colloque international à l’université de Reims Champagne-Ardenne les 9-10 décembre 2021. Les contributions présentées à l’issue de ces deux événements scientifiques feront l’objet d’un travail éditorial interdisciplinaire. Le programme IDeM2 s’inscrit dans le cadre du réseau Langue française et expressions francophones (LaFEF) de coopération scientifique entre l’Algérie et la France. Sa thématique concerne tous les types de migrations (professionnelles, économiques, politiques, etc.), observables hier ou aujourd’hui, dans ce « bassin de la diversité » qu’est la Méditerranée (Albertini, 2013 : 2). Dans cette perspective, des études concernant tous les pays du pourtour méditerranéen sont attendues.

Reclaim: Narratives of African Women Artists
This symposium is part of a wider collaboration with the Africa 2020 Season, a pan-African and multidisciplinary project taking place in France from December 2020 to mid-July 2021. Africa 2020 is an invitation, by N’Goné Fall, General Commissioner of the Season, to look at and understand the world from an African perspective. In this context, the AWARE association: Archives of Women Artists, Research and Exhibitions whose goal is to improve the exposure of 20th century women artists, sought the expertise of scholars, artists and curators from Africa and around the world to raise the issue of the visibility of women artists in Africa.

Beyond Borders: Mapping Sexualities and the Sexualisation of Spaces
This international conference will examine the relationship between the notions of boundaries and sexuality from an interdisciplinary, transnational and transcultural perspective. In particular, it aims to map the ways in which space determines sexualities and sexual practices, and to understand, in turn, how sex structures and limits the spaces in which we live, and how we relate to them.
