From Japan to Brazil and Vice-versa: Historical and Aesthetic Perspectives of a Diasporic Cinema
In 2024, the 77th Festival of Cannes' short film competition selected Amarela (2024),a film by Japanese-Brazilian director André Hayato Saito, which focuses on the experiencesof Japanese-Brazilians. This event reflects a growing interest in a diverse, transnational, andmultilingual filmography on the subject of the Japanese diaspora, particularly theJapanese-Brazilians, who are the largest group affected by return migration (or “detourmigration” (Perroud, 2007)) to Japan. This Young Researchers Colloquium aims atvisualizing and discussing that film corpus and its aesthetic, socio-historical andmethodological issues.

Familles en quête de reconnaissance et d’équité
Ce colloque multidisciplinaire vise à diffuser les savoirs sur les réalités familiales contemporaines et les avancées sociojuridiques qui nous obligent à revoir nos manières d’analyser le vécu et d’intervenir auprès des familles à la marge de normes familiales. Certaines réalités comme la recomposition familiale sont courantes, mais doivent être saisies dans toute leur diversité et leur complexité. D’autres phénomènes émergents comme les familles transnationales, les familles pluriparentales, les parents LGBTQ+ et les parents polyamoureux sont peu documentés et soulèvent de nouvelles questions sociales et juridiques qu’il convient de mieux comprendre pour mieux encadrer et intervenir.

Current State of Haitian Migration

In Haiti, the migration issue is a key structural factor in understanding the realities of this society. Since the country’s first occupation by the United States in 1915, national life has been punctuated by the massive displacement of Haitians, making it a country of emigration. From 1915 to the post-2010 years, marked by the January 12 earthquake, the country experienced at least six major waves of migration. Starting from these considerations as a powerful factor of expulsion, there is an invitation to take stock of a century and more of Haitian emigration.

Ethnologie française : Des spécialistes religieux en migration
Ce numéro de la revue Ethnologie française portera sur les migrations et les circulations transnationales des spécialistes religieux, ainsi que sur le rôle que peuvent jouer ces mobilités dans la construction de l’autorité religieuse. Les actrices et les acteurs religieux voyagent depuis des siècles mais la diversité, les formes et les enjeux de leurs migrations contemporaines sont assez mal connus. Ce dossier propose d’apporter des réponses à ces quelques questions à partir de contributions portant sur diverses religions et régions du monde afin de développer une approche comparative des migrations des spécialistes religieux.

Perspectives interdisciplinaires
À l'occasion du soixantième anniversaire de la signature de la convention de main-d'œuvre entre la France et la Turquie, le 8 avril 1965, ce colloque réunit des chercheuses et chercheurs issus de plusieurs horizons disciplinaires afin de dresser un état des lieux des recherches actuelles sur les populations originaires de Turquie en France. Il abordera leurs ancrages sociaux, culturels et géographiques, ainsi que la diversité des constructions politiques et identitaires qui les traversent.

Ce séminaire entend jeter des ponts entre des historiographies dynamiques bien que trop souvent hermétiques les unes aux autres : celles des conflits qui ont animé le premier vingtième siècle. Il propose d’étudier les sociétés engagées dans toutes les formes de conflits de l’amont à l’aval des deux conflits mondiaux.

Call for Papers: Masculinities in Migration
Building on the achievements of feminist approaches to migration, this call for papers invites contributions that place gender—masculinity—at the heart of their thinking. The aim of this thematic folder in preparation is to look beyond the figure of the “breadwinner” (a man who migrates to feed a family back home) in order to explore the plurality of masculinities that emerge in migration. This call for papers is open to contributions from a range of social science disciplines, dealing with a variety of historical and geographical contexts.

Since 2023, the PIOMIG project “Pioneers of Global Migration (16th- 21st centuries)”, supported by the Maison des Sciences de l'Homme et de la Société - Sud-Est (MSHS-SE) and the Institut Convergences Migrations (ICM), has been studying so-called “pioneer” migratory phenomena, which lie upstream and on the margins of the major migratory currents already well identified in scholarly literature. After organizing a first workshop, which enabled us to better define this notion (https://epi-revel.univ-cotedazur.fr/publication/pionniers-migrations), we propose to convene a symposium on December 4, 5 and 6, 2025. This symposium will provide an opportunity to present the original material collected and analysed in recent years, and to compare it with other approaches and studies on related subjects.

The “Islam - Migrations - Gender” workshop aims to initiate a dialogue between three fields of research that communicate little: the history of Islam, the history of migrations and the history of gender. The first is too focused on religious dimensions for some, the second is too focused on state control of migration others, and the third is too “militant” for the rest. How, then, can we write a social and cultural history of Muslims in Europe that integrates gender as a category of historical analysis and focuses on the daily lives of the actors, highlighting their “agency”?

Labour and health of undocumented migrant women: condition, trends, critical issues
The primary objective of this Frontiers Research Topic is to produce a comprehensive understanding of the working conditions, health status, and acts of resistance among undocumented migrant women. By investigating these elements, the research intends to explore the intersections of labour and health inequalities imposed on these women due to their undocumented statuses and their positioning within the lower strata of global labour hierarchies. Moreover, it seeks to address the broader societal impacts of these conditions and propose potential pathways for improving their lives and labour conditions.

Trans-Indigenous readings of contemporary literature from Canada and the rest of the Americas
The aim of this international workshop on contemporary Indigenous literatures and literary practices in Canada and the rest of the Americas is twofold. Firstly, it lies in exploring the (potential or already existing) implications and applications of the trans-Indigenous comparative methodology proposed by Chadwick Allen in his book Trans-Indigenous: Methodologies for Global Native Literary Studies. The second aim of this workshop is to create a space in which the growing number of researchers in Indigenous studies (including doctoral and postdoctoral researchers), both Indigenous and non-Indigenous, can share their knowledge and reflect together on the possibility of contributing to the development and the consolidation of this field through the collective construction of a critical practice of trans-American Indigenous literary studies research.

Le terme de « crise » vient du mot grec « krisis », qui signifie « décision, jugement ». Notons que le verbe « krinein » désigne la faculté de choisir, de distinguer, de juger. Dans le domaine médical, la crise est provoquée par une rupture avec un état initial stable. Ce processus impose donc de prendre des décisions, nécessaires pour sortir de l’incertitude. L’acte de création apparaît alors comme une solution pour faire face aux bouleversements imprévisibles. La « création », du latin « creatio », désigne l’action de produire l’être, d’inventer, d’innover. Créer peut combler un manque, réinjecter de la stabilité là où la crise n’avait laissé que du désordre. Non seulement les périodes de crises peuvent contraindre les façons de créer, mais c’est aussi la création qui permet d’endiguer un phénomène de crise. C’est cette influence mutuelle, entre crise et création, que nous voulons placer au cœur de cette XIVe journée des doctorants.

Les doctorant·es et jeunes chercheur·es du centre de recherche Grammatica organisent la deuxième édition du colloque jeunes chercheurs qui se tiendra les 20 et 21 mars 2025 à distance. Cet événement scientifique s’adresse à tous les jeunes chercheurs en sciences du langage qui souhaitent présenter leurs travaux dans le cadre des trois axes thématiques suivants : nouvelles perspectives en didactique du français langue étrangère ; linguistique de corpus et analyse de discours pour la formation en langues étrangères ; les technologies numériques en classe de langues et cultures étrangères.

Indigenous Peoples and Mobility
Nomopolis journal will be devoting issue no. 3 to the mobility of indigenous peoples.This issue remains one of the areas to be explored within a growing body of indigenous research in the social sciences. Its importance is demonstrated by the decision of the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the rights of Indigenous Peoples to devote his latest report to the United Nations General Assembly to this issue. This is the first systematic global study of the situation of mobile indigenous peoples. However, this situation represents only one aspect of the broader issue of the relationship between mobility and indigenous peoples, which also raises questions about the situation of those for whom mobility is not a way of life.
