We propose this session to bring together researchers examining women’s craft practices and to deepen our understanding of their identities and agency through the materialityof these activities. Materiality is understood here as encompassing artefacts and gestures: thustools, waste, but also workspaces, as well as traces on objects and traces on human remains (work-related illnesses, for example). The purpose of this session is to review the current state of research on this topic, sharequestions, difficulties, and advances.

Il entend croiser les approches historiques, sociologiques, juridiques, philosophiques et politiques pour mieux comprendre les logiques, les temporalités et les justifications qui accompagnent la restructuration des États dans le long terme.

Activism, Networks and Connections (1920s-1970s)
Research on the long-term history of African women’s rights struggles in the 20th century is currently vibrant, however, a gap remains in the scholarship concerning the global engagement and impact of African women activists’ thought, practices and contributions to the emergence of international feminist movements. This workshop, convened by an international group of scholars, aims to foster collaboration on this issue, with a focus on African pioneers of women’s movements and their global connections.

Reorganise, Redefine, Abolish
Although feminist utopias have been the object of an important body of work especially in the literary field, the specific paradigm of labour within these experiments and imaginaries has received only limited attention. The purpose of this conference is to explore to what extent and in what ways labour (both as a site of oppression and emancipation) serves as a paradigm in feminist utopia-building. We will use the concept of utopia both as a reflexive tool for critique and as a heuristic tool for transformation.

À la croisée de l’intime et du professionnel, du privé et du public, elles ouvrent une fenêtre unique sur les pratiques sociales, les réseaux, les émotions et les stratégies d’écriture des XVIIe et XVIIIe siècles. Cette journée d’étude entend interroger les méthodes, enjeux et perspectives actuelles de l’analyse des correspondances modernes. Comment articuler les dimensions matérielles, linguistiques et relationnelles de ces échanges épistolaires ?

Initié en 2024, « Archéologie au féminin » est un cycle quinquennal de journées d’études qui propose d’interroger la place des femmes dans l’Archéologie. Ces journées s’intéressent tout particulièrement à la dimension sociologique des professions de l’archéologie, à la place des sociabilités et aux stratégies d’adaptation des femmes ou de reconnaissance de leur rôle dans les travaux archéologiques depuis les origines de la discipline, au XIXe siècle, jusqu’à aujourd’hui à travers des témoignages directs et des études biographiques ou monographiques.

Un espace de réflexion collective autour des questions trans et queer, des mondes antiques au long Moyen Âge, proposant une approche réflexive des concepts de corps, de sexe et de genre et de leurs nouages dans différentes cosmologies, dans une perspective comparatiste. L’enjeu central du groupe de travail réside dans l’élaboration collective d’une base de données ouverte, composée de notices bibliographiques critiques d’ouvrages et articles à même de concerner les études trans et queer.

Perspectives historiques et renouvellements historiographiques dans les espaces européens, coloniaux et mondiaux
La revue Criminocorpus lance un appel à contributions pour un dossier consacré aux relations entre prostitution, droit et justice, depuis la fin du Moyen Âge jusqu’à la période contemporaine. Ce dossier propose d’interroger les modes de régulation, de répression ou de tolérance de la prostitution à travers les siècles, en déplaçant le regard porté traditionnellement sur les seules autorités publiques. Il s’agira d’accorder une place centrale aux pratiques et aux expériences des personnes concernées, à leurs interactions avec la justice et aux réponses qu’elles apportent aux contraintes institutionnelles et sociales qui pèsent sur elles.

Dans quels contextes les femmes ont, aux côtés d’hommes, exercé une autorité ? Le champ d’étude est celui des élites féminines et notre analyse porte sur la possibilité du pouvoir féminin dans une perspective résolument transversale, allant du pouvoir de la mère de famille à celui de l’abbesse ou de la reine. Au-delà de cette première analyse, c’est l’idée d’un pouvoir exercé conjointement, alliant masculin et féminin, qui retiendra notre attention, favorisant ainsi l’émergence d’une nouvelle vision du genre du pouvoir, tel qu’il a pu exister dans le passé, mais aussi tel qu’il pourrait être envisagé dans la société actuelle.

Searching for Homosexuality in Judicial Archives
Epistemological, Methodological and Political Challenges (18 th-20 th centuries)
This workshop aims to explore the epistemological, methodological and political challenges of using judicial archives to conduct historical research on homosexuality. It will be held on 7 and 8 November 2025 at Campus Condorcet in Aubervilliers, France (Paris area). It is open to all early career researchers (master's, doctoral and post-doctoral researchers) conducting investigations into the history of homosexuality using court records and/or other judicial documents, whatever their discipline. This edition focuses specifically on the issue of framing the object of research and on categories of analysis in the history of homosexuality, and how these are put to the test by confrontation with this material.

Who Cares? De la psychiatrie dans l’aire anglophone is a group of scholars from the Université Paris Nanterre and Université Sorbonne Nouvelle formed in 2023 and dedicated to the history of psychiatry in the English-speaking world. A central ambition of the Who Cares project has been the organization of a series of international conferences on the history of psychiatry in the English-speaking world. The first event took place on 6-8 February 2025 at Université Paris Nanterre and gathered scholars around the topic “People and Places”. This Call for Papers invites contributions that critically engage with the theme of our second event: “Theories and Policies”

The international conference “Materiality and Confinements in the Medieval and Early Modern Eras: Objects, Actors, Experiences” examines confinements through the lens of their materiality. Drawing on a recent historiographical broadening of the field, the conference aims to address various forms of medieval and early modern confinement, both judicial and non-judicial: prisons, galleys, hospitals, workhouses, cloisters, monasteries, and the like. Contributions are encouraged that reflect on how material history and its sources could contribute to a better understanding of different institutions of confinement and their actors (confined individuals, monks, jailers, doctors, suppliers…), practices, and infrastructures.

Ritual Cultures of Medieval Religious Women
The last decade has witnessed an explosion of scholarship on religious and semi-religious women’s participation in the liturgy of the medieval Catholic church. Thirteen international scholars across disciplines – history, musicology, liturgy, theology, and literature – will present new research on the ritual cultures of medieval religious women in Europe, defining both “ritual” and “religious” in broad terms to include the communal and individual ritual practices of enclosed nuns, beguines, tertiaries, anchoresses, and the communities with whom they interacted.

Historical Workshop
Le contrôle et l'utilisation de l'argent sont clairement identifiés comme une question de genre dans les sociétés contemporaines. Pourtant, l'argent en lui-même - sa gestion et son contrôle, la manière dont il peut servir d'outil de domination ou de levier d'action, la question de savoir qui le possède et qui le contrôle - a rarement été posée comme une question historique indépendante sur le long terme. Cet atelier de recherche sur deux jours propose une premier jalon de réflexion sur cette question. Il rassemble des historiennes de l'époque médiévale au très contemporain dans des panels consacrés au patrimoine, aux réseaux de crédits, à la comptabilité quotidienne, aux mobilisations politiques.

This special issue od Diachronie aims to explore the theme of the night in the Modern era, with particular attention to the social, cultural and political dynamics characterised by their occurrence at nightfall. What experiences, actors, and practices transpass the boundaries between legality and subversion in nightlife? Or what metaphorical meanings has the night taken on?
