  Philosophy and dance in Africa and among its diasporas today

  Corpus Africana festival

  From the 27^th of October until the 10^th of November 2018 the university consortium Erasmus Mundus Europhilosophie is organising, under the title “Corpus Africana; Current philosophies and Dances in Africa and its Diasporas”, an important international meeting, aiming to bring to the heart of arts and humanities university research in Europe the knowledge and the study of “Africana Philosophy”, of choreographic knowledge that is of African or contemporary African lineage in nature. The meeting will take place at the University of Toulouse Jean Jaurès as part of the research seminar “Thinking Decolonisation”, in collaboration with the James Carlès Centre of Choreography’s Festival of Dance and the Black Continents.

  Thinking freely in religion in English-speaking countries

  This conference will explore the different ways by which thinking freely in religion has been understood and practiced in English-speaking countries since the Middle Ages. The starting point is the peculiar way by which freethought has been historically associated with hostility to religion. What is, therefore, thinking freely in religion? The conference calls for papers about the free spaces created by religious traditions and institutions in the English-speaking world and about how these spaces relate to freethought and to any way of thinking freely that is hostile to religion. The conference aims for a long-term perspective on the interactions between freethought and thinking freely, and calls for papers on any historical period from the Middle Ages to the present.

  The origins and foundation of works and institutions in the Middle Ages

  East-East, 6th-15th centuries

  Le thème retenu, Origines et fondations des œuvres et des institutions au Moyen Âge. Orient-Occident, VI^e-XV^e siècle (histoire, histoire de l'art, littérature, musicologie), invite à s'intéresser à la création des institutions (fondation d'une institution religieuse, d'une ville, d'une université, d'un gouvernement communal...) et des œuvres (architecturales, artistiques, littéraires, musicales, liturgiques) médiévales. D'abord en recherchant les motivations, les intérêts, les objectifs poursuivis : pourquoi faire naître quelque chose de nouveau ? Ensuite en examinant les modalités concrètes : qui sont les acteurs ? Qui sont les commanditaires ? Comment la réalisation est-elle financée ? Quels sont les choix techniques (au sens large, techniques rhétoriques, littéraires et stylistiques comprises) opérés pour donner sa forme à l'œuvre ? Et quelles sont les conséquences, quel est l'impact de l'œuvre ou de l'institution au moment de sa réalisation ?

  Le développement des programmations de spectacles vivants et d’activités artistiques en direction des jeunes publics et des familles, l’afflux des publics sur ces saisons de spectacles et sur les festivals ainsi que les modes d’appropriation de la culture par les enfants constituent des enjeux sociaux et culturels majeurs pour demain. C’est quoi le spectacle dans la vie d’un enfant ?, telle est la question à partir de laquelle il est possible de comprendre comment se construit le rapport de l’enfant aux arts vivants dès son plus jeune âge. Cet appel à contribution vise à mettre en partage les réflexions et les analyses de chercheurs de toutes les disciplines de sciences humaines et sociales interrogeant la façon dont le spectacle s’inscrit dans le quotidien d’un enfant, dans son éveil à l’art et au monde, de la toute petite enfance à l’adolescence. Le sujet peut être appréhendé par différentes approches, esthétiques, historiques, psychologiques, éducatifs…

  Winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1975, Eugenio Montale (1896-1981) spent thirty-three years of his life in Milan (more than a third of his entire existence), from 1948, when at the age of fifty-two he was taken on by “Corriere della Sera”, until his death in a Milanese hospital at the age of eighty-five. During this protracted residency in Milan, Montale published all his major poetic collections except Ossi di seppia and Le occasioni.

  Translation: A political commitment?

  Translation, as it is determined by a socio-historical, political and subjective context, is not, has never been, and cannot be a neutral operation. It involves the choices, positioning and commitment of all the participants concerned. Therefore, we can ask ourselves: is the translator, given these multiple dimensions, constrained, or tempted, whether unconsciously or consciously, to instill a certain measure of ideology in the performance of her task? How do commitment, ideology and translation interact? Ethics, deontology, morals? And in what way does this interlacing of determinations constitute a political commitment of the act of translation, even more than that of the translator.

  The Literary Exchanges and Intellectual Encounters of Humanists in the Northern Provinces during the Renaissance

  First Saint-Omer international colloquium

  The first Saint-Omer international colloquium is co-organized by the Centre de Recherche et d’Études Histoire et Sociétés (EA 4027 CREHS - Université d’Artois), and the Cultural Services of St Omer country’s Urban district (CAPSO). It is part of the pluri-disciplinary research programme The Renaissance in the Northern Provinces, coordinated since 2015 by Pr. Charles Giry-Deloison and Dr. Laurence Baudoux, and is in the continuity of the conferences already held at the University of Artois. The Saint-Omer colloquium aims to address all expressions of the Renaissance in the field of Humanities (philosophy, literature, arts), in the former Southern Netherlands in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. It will focus in particular on the exchanges, encounters and bonds between the main actors of this cultural revival.

  Gestures of the hand, movements of the voice

  Music and gesture from Antiquity to the Classical Age

  Les entretiens « Musique ancienne en Sorbonne » ont été fondés en 2004 pour créer un lieu d'échange entre tous les acteurs de la musique ancienne, musiciens, musicologues, facteurs, mélomanes, enseignants, étudiants, etc. Centrés sur les musiques médiévales, Renaissance ou baroques au sens large, ils offrent un espace d'exposé et de discussion à toutes les approches méthodologiques et thématiques pouvant intéresser la musique jusqu'à la Révolution française. L'Association musique ancienne en Sorbonne (AMAS) et les enseignants de Sorbonne Université organisent annuellement ces rencontres. La revue Le Jardin de Musique ouvre ses colonnes à la publication des communications. Les entretiens sont toujours accompagnés de concerts offerts par les ensembles musicaux de Sorbonne Université (Camerata baroque, master MIMA), placés notamment sous la direction de Katarina Livljanić, Benjamin Bagby, Jean-Christophe Frisch.
