Chaire de recherche France-Québec sur les enjeux contemporains de la liberté d’expression (CNRS/FRQ)
Coordonnée depuis janvier 2023 par huit cotitulaires, quatre au Québec et quatre en France, la chaire de recherche France-Québec sur les enjeux contemporains de la liberté d’expression (COLIBEX) vise à développer la recherche et la formation sur la liberté d’expression, dans une dimension collaborative et internationale. Son objectif est de fournir des outils aux chercheur·ses, aux professionnel·les, aux décideur·euses et au grand public pour penser, exercer et encadrer cette liberté. Organisée en réseaux transnationaux, cette chaire collective se déploie autour de quatre axes : le premier aborde la question de la régulation de la liberté d’expression en rapport avec les droits humains fondamentaux et la démocratie (axe 1) ; les trois autres traitent plus spécifiquement de ses rapports avec la religion (axe 2), les savoirs (axe 3) et la création (axe 4).

Conference Transmission and learning.
How do children engage in ritualised daily practices and rituals?
This interdisciplinary conference addresses the processes and experiences oftransmission and learning of knowledge and competences to and by children, withoutpresuming a priori the limits of childhood. The central question that will guide thediscussions concerns the ways in which ritualised contexts – secular or religious – providea vehicle for the integration and transformation of knowledge, ways of thinking, normsand values, skills and attitudes within various socialising frameworks. The conference willtherefore contribute to the debates on the conditions for the perpetuation and change ofsocial practices in general, and (co)educational practices in particular, in different regionsof the world and in different eras.

The Challenge of Inclusivity and Democratic Government in Social Contract Theory
Social contract approaches seek to explain the origins of political obligations but are also recognized as tools of social change. In the face of classic social contract philosophers, who maintained that normative legitimacy may be grounded in hypothetical agreement, recent accusations of exclusivity and anthropocentrism have challenged contract theories’ relevance. And yet, in spite of these challenges, contract theories have experienced a resurgence. This conference seeks to engage with this second wave of theories and reflect on the challenges of inclusivity and democratic government within contract theory from an interdisciplinary perspective.

Lexis, framing, timings, 19th‒21st century in the Middle East
Is preaching consubstantial with crisis? Did the different religious traditions present in the Middle East come to grip with the notion of crisis during the contemporary period? This workshop examines the similarities and divergences between preaching endeavours by the different religious traditions and the transformations in religious discourse in the Middle East from the end of the 19th century onwards. Through a comparative and diachronic analysis, it aims to identify what "constitutes a crisis" for particular religious actors at a given moment in the contemporary history of the Middle East (e.g. military defeat, feelings of inferiority vis-à-vis Europe, demographic decline of a given religious group, secularisation of institutions, rise of atheism, etc.)

This new issue aims at exploring the relationship between Art and Ethics. One of the reasons is that Ethics has been the great absentee in the discussion about climate change. Why is it important to be involved? What are the ethical considerations behind getting involved? How about environmental justice? Many topics that are connected to Ethics. But we want to explore Ethics from an artistic point-of-view: How do artists/artworks contribute to the ethical debate? Is there an ethical way to create art? Can ethics be the main inspiration of art practices? Can art be a ferment for ethics? Can art show the way to society?

The “Islam - Migrations - Gender” workshop aims to initiate a dialogue between three fields of research that communicate little: the history of Islam, the history of migrations and the history of gender. The first is too focused on religious dimensions for some, the second is too focused on state control of migration others, and the third is too “militant” for the rest. How, then, can we write a social and cultural history of Muslims in Europe that integrates gender as a category of historical analysis and focuses on the daily lives of the actors, highlighting their “agency”?

Le programme « Humanités dans le texte », porté par l’ENS-PSL, en collaboration avec le ministère de l’Éducation nationale, la plateforme Odysseum et les associations CNARELA et APLAES a pour but de constituer une bibliothèque de modules pédagogiques transdisciplinaires, composés de textes, d’images et de vidéos, destinés à venir en appui à l’enseignement des langues et cultures de l’Antiquité. Ces modules sont créés par des enseignants, des chercheurs, des spécialistes de différents domaines à partir d’un texte latin et grec, reproduit en original, traduit et commenté selon différentes perspectives d’intérêt scientifique et sociétal.

La visión de los dos bloques confesionales monolíticos en el s. XVI ha dado paso al estudio del complejo entramado de relaciones mantenidas entre católicos y reformados más allá de las fronteras religiosas, unas delimitaciones necesariamente porosas. En este marco, los manuales de catequesis y las obras de doctrina cristiana constituyen un tema privilegiado de estudio en cuanto a los préstamos y apropiaciones de producciones textuales procedentes de allende los Pirineos. Este coloquio sobre la catequesis en la edad de la Reforma en la Península ibérica brinda la ocasión de profundizar en la cuestión de los intercambios explícitos o iimplícitos desde el campo católico o protestante y analizar en el mismo tiempo la profunda renovación de la catequística en el s. XVI.

Cet appel à contribution pose la problématique des politiques publiques du religieux en rapport avec la gestion territoriale, avec l’éducation et les programmes d’enseignement dans des sociétés postcoloniales. Son ambition est d’analyser l’action de l’État, des organisations et autorités religieuses, des différents acteurs (familles, mécènes, élèves et anciens élèves et diplômés, etc.) dans la formation et pluralisation des modèles scolaires éducatifs, les conflits et enjeux catégoriels et symboliques à l’œuvre, qu’ils soient culturels, religieux, identitaires, socio-économiques et professionnels en prenant en compte la diversité des territoires et des espaces qu’ils traversent.

Un dialogue d’expériences ?
Depuis 1983, un groupe de Dialogue Inter Monastique (DIM) est venu, en Europe, structurer des rencontres, en premier lieu avec des moines japonais relevant du bouddhisme zen. Le DIM est une structure reconnue par le Vatican. Il favorise un dialogue de vie, où le dialogue peut être compris comme un chemin d’approfondissement de soi. De fait, les initiatives du DIM interrogent la notion même de « dialogue », et sa justification en milieu chrétien.

Plus précisément, on se demandera s’il s’agit là d’un concept opératoire pour décrire la relation pastorale qui unit une figure d’autorité religieuse à une communauté religieuse. L’on attendra plus précisément des études de cas, précises et correctement documentées, tirées des différentes traditions religieuses et aires géographiques, de l’Antiquité à nos jours.

About John of Toledo, abbot of l'Épau, then cardinal
It has recently been proven that the famous Cardinal Jean de Tolède was indeed the first abbot of l'Épau, the abbey founded by Queen Berengaria of Navarre near Le Mans around 1230. This conference seekss to explore the various aspects of the career of this character and others like him, who passed through England, the Cistercian order, theological faculties and Toledo, before arriving at the Roman Curia, endowed with a solid medical culture, as well as alchemy and astrology.
