  Practices, movements and perspectives in the perpetuation of Theater production in the Arab World

  The ephemeral dimension of Theater is often considered as an obstacle for a pertinent account of past representations, hence the difficulty of writing the history of a practice when we cannot consider every moment of its creative process. We cannot also apprehend clearly its future. However, even if it does not pretend to predict the future, this call for papers wishes to question the long-term effects and the procedures that contribute to the perpetuation of Theatrical currents and productions in the Arab World.

With many countries opting for a federal structure of the government, federalism has now become a popular research topic among political scientists and constitutional scholars, leading to the burgeoning of centers and research projects at the international level. Federal ideas and the reality of existing federal states cannot be sharply divided. A comprehensive analysis of institutional philosophical roots can thus help us to further a comprehensive understanding of federal institutions as well as design appropriate analytical tools for investigating elements of multilevel governance systems.

  Le caractère incertain du pluriel permet d’ouvrir la réflexion tant sur la nature profonde de la démarche coloniale que sur les formes, diverses, qu’elle a prises. Au moment où l’on commémore l’accession de l’Algérie à l’indépendance, il paraît intéressant de revenir à nouveaux frais sur une question qui continue à susciter nombre de discours politiques et de travaux universitaires. La première journée sera organisée autour de la thématique « La colonisation, fille illégitime des Lumières ». Elle sera consacrée aux travaux sur la colonisation européenne à l’époque contemporaine. La thématique de la seconde journée, « Les Corses dans l’empire colonial », sera l’occasion d’opérer un focus sur une question ayant déjà donné lieu à un colloque, il y a une vingtaine d’année (Corse colonies).

  History of prehistory in Palestine – Israel

  International workshop

  Our workshop aims to shed light on the various actors and institutions who shaped the field of prehistory from the 19^th century until our days. They will allow us to grasp the establishment and development of prehistoric international and local networks on the longue durée. We encourage participants to address the socio-political and cultural contexts in which prehistory was practiced and knowledge produced. Many answers to the above questions and topics of research may be uncovered in personal, institutional, and administrative archives, while others are revealed in excavation reports. This brings us to the last section of our workshop: what sources for the history of Prehistory and how can they be used? Has the writing of a renewed history of the discipline affected today’s research and how?

  Constructions et déconstructions en contexte pandémique

  La journée d’étude aborde les multiples dimensions des constructions et déconstructions simultanées du travail et de l’environnement à l’heure du covid. Ces constructions et déconstructions sont entendues sur le plan des processus réels, mais aussi au plan idéel des constructions du travail et de l’environnement comme concepts économiques, politiques et moraux, inscrits dans des paradigmes techniques. Les études de cas, donnant à voir empiriquement ces imbrications dans des contextes singuliers, seront particulièrement utiles à cette démarche, tout comme les analyses tenant compte des appartenances sociales. Les modèles économiques constituent aussi une dimension transversale. Sur cette base commune, les contributions portant sur les trois axes d’analyse thématiques des techniques, du temps et de l’espace, des mobilisations et des luttes, seront particulièrement bienvenues.

  Indian Ocean World Archaeology Conference (IOW-Arch) 2022

  Following on from the very successful inaugeral Indian Ocean World Archaeology Conference (IOW-Arch), the second IOW-Arch is planned for Monday 19th and Tuesday 20th December 2022. This is being held at the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies (IAIS), University of Exeter, who are generously providing financial support. Papers are welcome on all aspects of the archaeology, material culture and heritage of the Indian Ocean (defined as from East Africa to Japan, including Australasia) from the first millennium BC to the contemporary era, and may include reports on research in progress. Presentations should be in English (unless you are in the special sesssion organised by Derek Kennet and Ran Zhang, which will be in Mandarin) and must not exceed 15 minutes, with a further 5 minutes allowed for questions.

  Taking into consideration the small number of available doctoral grants, this one-year (renewable for one year) PhD scholarship is intended for doctoral students who have already started their thesis, but without any doctoral contract. It offers a second chance to talented young researchers registered in a French doctoral school. This scholarship is primarily intended to support data collection work in the geographical areas covered by the CSH (India, Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka). The second year can be devoted to the analysis of materials and the writing of the thesis. With equal quality of application, preference will be given to Indian students who have completed their post-graduate studies in France.

  Historian and political scientists of South Asia have been dealing with the ascent of postcolonial state and the form of citizenships in South Asia. The meteoric rise of postcolonial theory, subaltern school of historiography to be precise made efforts in bringing the role of ideas and culture in shaping state, community and political narratives. Notwithstanding these insights still this literature failed to bring in one very important thing; a comparative lens to study informal politics in the region. The social transformation and process of democratization has appeared to be inching ahead across the region from Nepal to Bangladesh. Therefore, increasingly a cross country perspective is required combining interdisciplinary approaches and methodologies (qualitative, quantitative) to develop a comparative perspective of way social and cultural factors influence informal politics in South Asia.

  Rethinking Knowledge, Reshaping the University

  17th Annual and International Colloquium of the Society of Activities and Research on the Indian World

  University is one of the places (among others) of training, production and transmission of knowledge. If the goal of training is to participate in the process of social transformation, universities are one of the "unconditional" spaces (in the words of Derrida) to exchange with one's contemporaries. University remains a place where people mix, where people meet and where hospitality as a value still holds true to some extent. These attributes can also make it a place that can generate power struggles by holding up a mirror to society.This conference will address some issues regarding the future of higher studies in India, and in the Global South: How to continue to "produce" and share knowledge in the face of endless liberalization? What choices, what paths, what research projects can be on offer in the training programs at universities in the 21st century? How can we rethink knowledge and reshape the university? How can we reinvent the missions of academic transmission and research to meet the challenges of our time and anticipate those of the next generations?
